As a general rule, if you want a world class player (and by world class I mean a player that I consider to be one of the 3 best in the world in his position at the moment), you will be looking at between £20-25 million.

For a top international with over 30 caps, £17-22 million, and an international with less than 30 caps £15-20 million. There may be some exceptions to this in the case of certain players, but this will be the general rule.

There will be an upper limit of £10 million for uncapped academy aged players unless two or more managers want the player and enter into a bidding war in which case there is no upper limit.

Bids for uncapped players who are over academy age limits will be judged on their own individual merits.

I bow my head to those wiser as lock hasn't been a position I've actively searched but Sean O'Brien (no relation to SOBv1) of the Connacht academy is very highly thought of over here. Injured for the junior world cup but would have been captain if fit supposedly

Actually trying to find a way for these bids not to escalate way above value for a kid. Otherwise we can all do them to each other. Ie i could have bid tevita li up but did not because i saw you had

If you bid you cannot withdraw your bid regardless.

People have dropped out before of bids steve.

It is a problem so easily solved.

You choose your target and if you bid for them then you cannot withdraw regardless of circumstances. That bid stands until it is accepted or rejected.

Not been in place before but if we want to do it moving forwards no problem.


Still think they should be sealed bids then you bid what you think and if someone else bids higher you lose.

Works well on fantasy football.

Also stops people bidding players up when they dont want to buy them. ( not accusing SJE of that by the way)

You could have bid the 10m originally Matt and there would have been no bidding war as I was locked in on Li...

You can't lower your bid after winning a bidding war. It was a clean fair battle. If you do just looks like you've tried to price me out the market and lock me in on someone else. If you want Camara he will cost you 30m now.

I'd have happily paid the 28m as its not as if I'm short on funds but if your withdrawing after winning the bidding war the price resets or else it just looks like you've gone out your way to waste my budget. This has been done in nationals as well before when someone tried to push the price up on Chris.

I've no interest in private bids as one of the best parts of foreigns is watching the price battles. Its been part and parcel of the game since I've been involved.

SJE i actually thought it was 5m i had to bid for any u20 did not know it was 10m hence why i asked why it was rejected.

People have changed bids before.

Disagree and think the price has been pushed up but it's only a game so will swallow the 30m.

Price is in the opening topic of the thread Matt and has been there since last year when Pete introduced the discounted price for academies. Surely my opening bid for Li would have given you some guidance on what he would have cost?

Not saying they haven't Matt but if they've pulled out when in the lead on a bidding war the competition have gone back to starting prices.

He better not turn out like Deon Fourie.
