Lions haiku Empty Lions haiku

Post by AsLongAsBut100ofUs Wed 19 Jun 2013, 5:56 pm

And while we've got those creative juices flowing, how about trying your hand at a British & rish Lions haiku to pass the time:

Hogg was not a ten,
He attacks and he defends,
Fifteen is his best.

Knock yer socks off!

While that has the syllabic flow of a Haiku, it is really far too poetic, and contains no seasonal reference. So far less poetic but:

The Lions Went To Oz,
The Summer turns to winter
We are divided.

Leaves are green at home
But falling in the South
Prospects of glory either

Or perhaps:
Yesterday's glories fade in time
But resurrected in the mind
Of those avoiding North's demise.

The result against wales last weekend prevented our Welsh brothers from contributing.

On the other hand their win in the JWC made them partial to making a braii.

I read up on it on Wikipedia and I still dont know what they are. Never heard of them before but they seem to have three common characteristics: a cutting word (WTF?), juxtaposition and seasonal reference. Made up of three verses of 5,7 and 5 on (again WTF?)

An 'on' is an inflection, which is like a syllable in Japanese but not entirely.
Most English speakers just work in three lines - 5 syllables, then 7, then 5 again

YES!! A seasonal reference, a dash of wit and the juxtaposition of north and south. I think this is what the japanese are after. You even have a cutting word in there demostrating the difference between North and south.
