Alcaraz is on a free and Heitinga will be going soon, so I think that is just to be back-up CB. He has been injured, but even then it is difficult to be positive about Wigan defenders.

Kone I like and will be pleased if we sign him. Will give another option up front and he has shown he can score goals in this league.

That's not really true is it.

He has shown a lot to suggest he could reach that level. Not saying he will, and I agree that Arsenal could easily be the reason why he doesn't.

But surely you cannot say that he is just another run of the mill, good English midfielder. And before Viva throws mroe mud, he does everything Viva says we should be looking for in our centre mids in that he gets the ball down, he passes it and he runs games from midfield.

Yeah I've never been convinced by Alcaraz, but at least he has a cool name.

Kone will add pace to your attack for sure. Could be a good partner for Jelavic

Martinez was fond of a 3-4-2-1 wasn't he?

I can see Alcaraz coming in to start as a back three and Coleman and Baines moving forward to play the wingback/midfielder roles.

I was looking at this and he was at Wigan, but he seems to alter his formation a bit at each team depending on the players he has.

I reckon Baines and Coleman would be perfect wing backs for that system. He'd need a better back three probably.

Mirallas and Pienaar could probably play off a lone striker too, with Gibson and Osman at CM.

I dont think hes shown anything apart from some talent. His Emirates Cup demolition of Rangers was years ago. Without a doubt his injuries set him back.
On this pitch last season he was good, not amazing & has still shown his less disciplined side (yes Rooney had that but thats another discussion).
Im not saying hes a run of the mill English midfielder, hes better than that but he isnt up to the hype he has here. His ability & all round play is good but goals & assists not so. Scholes, Gerrard & Lamps all around that age of 21 had good ability & general play, they also added the potency of goals to their game & all three of them had a good premier league season goal tally, double figures in fact. So that leads back to Wilshere's injury setback as he needs to be playing to achieve that, but he did have 20+ appearances last season & provided zero goal return & a handful of assist.

Its one thing to have the talent ability he does but without adding the vitals to his game he isnt close to being what Scholes, Gerrard & Lamps were.

That game against Brazil, with a poor team around him, showed his class. And his performance against Barca was masterful, again with an inferior team around him. Imagine if JW had a Roy Keane with him, or a David Beckham, or a Ruud van Nistelrooy up front, or even a Ryan Giggs down the wing. Imagine how good he could look with a legendary team around him, rather than being the one legendary player on a slightly above average team.

Scholes had it good.

England/Brazil in some pointless poopie friendly, if you want to count & hold that as why he carries such hype then fair enough.
Bossed the game is a bit of an overstatement, he had some great moments in that match & he did do did great.
One great performance doesn't justify how some people here hype him.
Way I see it is he hasnt achieved anything yet. He has a lot to do & a long way to go to be anywhere what have been the best England central midfielders recently, Gerrard, Lamps & Scholes.

EDIT: Should of made it clear the below is a separate question to serve as a build up for a point depending how its answered.
Do you think Messi would win the Ballon Door time after time if he wasnt at Barca helping them win trophies year after year & he was at say Valencia finishing outside the leagues top 2 places each year ??

Would Messi be a worse player if he was at Valencia.

Noone is saying Wilshere is the finished article or as good as Scholes was yet. The question was what has he shown to justify people thinking he could go on to be better than Scholes and those are what I have seen to make me think it.

Transfer market:
Jack Wilshere £29m
Yaya Toure £26.5m
Is that a joke?

On a serious note, Ashley Young £17.5m.
Bit generous aint it? £10m tops & that's pushing it.

Err Messi could be worse yes, down to development. But you didnt answer the ballon door question.

Afro, I havent disagreed with Wilshere being able to be better than Scholes. I have said he has a chance. I merely said I dont believe his hype on here. I really dont know many people who rate him like you or others on here do.

Anyway, this Wilshere discussion has just gone off track as it always does it reverts to him vs Scholes & Balloon Door. Were not even debating the same thing with each other Laugh so lets just call it a day on that topic.

No you didn't. I want to know why a player has to win the Balon D'Or to be considered better than someone who hadn't ever received a vote. Does this mean that Verratti has to win the Balon D'Or to be considered better than Leon Osman
