Well, maybe - except what did you do? You politely asked someone whose screen personality (and I would presume his outside personality as well) is combative, insulting, and narcissistic to tone it down. Nothing more. And the response was more or less telling you to pissoff.Linebreaker wrote:Yes, it was all my fault.
This is/was a guy who would hijack threads which stunted a lot of conversation, was insulting and demeaning to people with with whom he disagreed, and generally came off as an ass. And all you did was prevent another thread from going down the rat hole.
In my mind, exactly the job of a mod. And if he was not over the top yet in that particular thread, we can be confident he was on his way and it was likely coming.
And, yes, losing Biltong, or anyone like him who contributes positively is unfortunate. And more so if some people made him bitter enough to slam 606 somewhere else, which is clearly not good. In the whole this is a good group. But there will always be people who seem to lodge up your rectum like bad Mexican food. That's life.
My suggestion is we move on. We are all here to talk some Rugby and have a laugh. Ain't so hard.
You a good dude, mate.

Pity the Cruden conversation didnt continue into the second test where Cruden played a blinder, showing why he is amongst the worlds best 10's...Bluesman was notably absent during that one.

How about you Cyril?
I'd be happy to lose the 'on 606v2' bit. It's a tad tautological.

Ooops.
Yeah, I was going to say exactly the same thing, TM. Bluesmancometh too soon that day.
I hope my fellow Aussies are treating him well during his stay here.

Agreed - don't sweat it, Breaker. Important to recognise the difference between doing something wrong and the fallout resulting from validly telling someone what they don't want to hear.doctor_grey wrote:Well, maybe - except what did you do? There also aren't that many other Cyrils on here that we can confuse you with, Cyril.Cyril on 606v2 wrote:About my name or growing up?Linebreaker wrote:OK, leave it as it is then.

He's a lot more pessimistic about the Boks (and baby Boks) chances these days.

Very true. We Cyrils are a select breed. In an exclusive way and not a 'local shop for local people' kind of way you understandGeorge Carlin wrote:There also aren't that many other Cyrils on here that we can confuse you with, Cyril.

I must say without a doubt the ability to self moderate is one of the features most needed.
I have seen it on other forums; the author of a thread may delete posts.

Thanks for noticing. It was getting a bit long at the sides. 5 characters is quite long enough for the summerLinebreaker wrote:Cyril wrote:ThanksLinebreaker wrote:

Thing is, stag, that feature got abused on old 606 where a 'sensitive' author could delete all posts he/she didn't agree with and the whole thread could stop making sense pretty quickly.red_stag wrote:I must say without a doubt the ability to self moderate is one of the features most needed.

Yeah, much better for summer. I was worried you were beginning to look like an Internet Hippy. Are you still going to Glastonbury, btw?

Can I abuse a few people and then come back as C@nterbury Crusader, searching out WUMs and converting them (aka erasing them from existence). You said you need more Mods.

Did it happen that often in reality? I remember somebody doing it about twice and the general consensus being that they had acted foolishly.
I think its very hard to abuse that feature effectively. If a poster takes a dislike to another and deletes whatever he says irrespectively then so be it; nothing to lose sleep over. There are lots of threads out there.
It takes massive pressure off the moderation team and allows for guys who want banter to accept banter while ensuring that threads are not routinely ruined en masse.
I know that even if there were no massive farewells and goodbyes we lost a lot of guys who got tired of seeing the same arguments in every single thread. I know I stopped posting for about 3 months - was just sick of the Irish rugby threads - no big issue but it was the same lads with same arguments.
Obviously the administrators of this site are hampered by the confines of the software but I'd encourage them to promote this as a feature they would like to see for the future.

Sorry guys, got distracted.
Australia has a new PM (Kevin Rudd again, Julia Gillard gone. Rudd won the spill 57-45) and Sam Thaiday has just scored for Qld in the 3rd minute of Origin 2. (ed: another try 8-0 Qld)
Thanks for your support. This place should be an opportunity for us all to talk about many things. Rugby is an emotional sport for us fans... fair enough. However, it does become cumbersome when you have to sift through all the comments and make judgements when the reports arrive.
As Doc says, we're here to have a chat about rugby as it happens and also chat a bit before and after each event. It shouldn't turn into a melee of bitterness from one minute to the next. It's important to keep our humour, accept reality and shake hands (figuratively) at the end of it... regardless of who wins or loses. It's not that hard and you don't lose too much skin off your back when you say "your team played well... good on your blokes... you deserved to win that one"
We all earn points from time to time but like life itself; our luck with results can rise and fall and rise, etc.
