Roger Federer has been told he cannot wear trainers with orange soles again at Wimbledon. The Swiss defending champion wore the trainers as he eased past Victor Hanescu 6-3 6-2 6-0 in the first round.

Federer and Murray to cruise through in straight sets. Tsonga to win in 4.

Morning folks. How is everyone?
I'm watching Janowicz-Stepanek at the moment, the height and age difference is astounding! Going to try and keep an eye on the Isner and Troicki matches too.

Good sir, yourself? I've put JJ v Steps on the laptop and am watching Brown v Hewitt. It's a bizarre match.

Yay....Dustin holds serve, and it's 4-3 in the first.
This is how Dustin always plays his tennis.
I remember when he was a little boy learning to play the game at the Upper Deck tennis courts in Montego Bay, when I used to take my niece to tennis lessons there.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Good thanks, TSJ :)just flicked over to the Hewitt match, and witnessed a few weird points for myself. Nice to see some classic grasscourt tennis though. Isner just had to retire with a knee injury early in his match, and now the trainer has been called out to tend to Stepanek too - dropping like flies and we're only half an hour in! Gulp.
Edit: Troicki just engineered a set point against the Kuznetsov serve, takes it to seize the opening set 6-4.

Yes very sad. He is a very good grass courter but sadly injured his knee in the first game of the match. Mannarino goes through.

I watched a service game just now of Dustin's and was quite impressed, but he does need to slow down on his time between serves or he will come unstuck at this level, hits the ball very clean

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Some lovely service returns....and a diving volley, thumping chest a la Usain Bolt, and Dustin breaks to take the first set at four!
Josiah, I know what you're saying, but it's just not going to happen....
This is the only way he plays - nobody can change him.

Epic returning game from Brown to break, and take the set - that was brilliant!

Great diving volley that. Boris would have been proud. I still have a sneaky feeling Hewitt will grind out the win.

Poor Lleyton, this match isn't even in his hands. It's either error or winner, nothing else. I feel for him because it's probably his last Wimbledon and it would have been nice to see him go deep in the tournament.

I've been a fan of Brown since Jo'burg 2010 (it's true!).
Love his style and specifically chose to watch his match on Monday on my matches to see on the order of play.
Get the break back!!!

I saw Dustin Live two years ago at the Soweto Open Challenger. Something magnetic about the feverish way he plays. Its tennis alright, but not as we know it!

LS - If you watched him, I can believe you, the guy developed an instant fan base in Soweto. Just that type of player.

Brown will blow himself out after set 2...he always does, its too hard to sustain the frantic nature of his shots and tempo.

KR - I always keep an eye out for him and follow his progress (which has gone downhill for a while now) but he has done quite well in doubles 2bh.
Got his autograph as well!!! Love his style, so different with that jamaican easy going style combined with german efficiency!

I was thinking that too. I always recall Monfils doing the same with Rafa at a USO some years ago, he was jumping about like a complete...... well..... Monfils and even when he won the first set it was obvious he'd wasted so much effort (and I mean wasted, not just expended) he couldn't last.lydian wrote:Brown will blow himself out after set 2...he always does, its too hard to sustain the frantic nature of his shots and tempo.

I'd guess Brown's consistency levels won't be able to match Hewitt's as the match wears on - as I post Brown breaks back.

He has come through qualies playing the same tempo and style. Back on serve.

Troicki's looking good to sail through. JJ up a set, and currently pressuring Stepanek heavily in the 2nd. Can't make myself look away from Dustin for long, though

Dustin enjoys playing his shots....
Two double-faults right afterwards spoilt it....
Back to deuce.
That was a difficult hold, but Dustin does it at the net.

New contender for match of the year?
Almagro's just started, hoorah! I very much enjoy watching him play, even though he'll inevitably bottle it if he gets anywhere near the latter stages against a top player.

DARCIS RETIRES!
What a sad end to his Wimbledon after his monumental achievement less than 48 hours ago.
Bet Nadal fans must be thinking why didn't he retire on Monday!

Well if a shark bites a bull... I'd be surprised if the shark came out unscathed.
It probably wouldnt have mattered for Nadal, he was poor he'd have been beaten soon after.

Probably injured it doing all that fist pumping and not being used to it.
Seriously though it's a bit unfortunate. Good luck to him.

Hewitt just keeps feeding Brown's FH with second serves. Big ask for Hewitt to pull this one out.
