Golovkin vs Macklin
Anybody excited about this fight? think its being shown on Sky Sports 1 this saturday night.
im a huge fan of Golovkin and believe this is his hardest test to date.
brilliant amateur background and has so far blown threw everyone, including Ishida who had never previously been stopped.
macklin is a come forward fighter but i seriously feel this is Golovkins ticket into the big time.
Golovkin by brutality no later than 8.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
I think Macklin is good, tough, and busy enough to keep things interesting during the first half of the fight. But, Golovkin has such great variety and power in his punches that I see him hurting Macklin towrds the end. It's a very good test for Golovkin.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Good test for Golevkin. Macklin is the kind of guy who is no gimme for anyone but you should be looking to put away if you are half the fighter the hype would suggest you are. I personally think this one is going to be pretty close. Macklin will be better for the experience of his two world title tilts and seems like the kind of guy who will come to win and think he is going to offer a stern test for Golevkin. That said whenever I have seen Macklin he has never been the most elusive of guys and one does have to wonder how taking the kind of shots he will surely have to take in this will work out for him.
As others have said though should be a good fight and am looking forward to this one.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Great fight. GGG will absolutely snot Mack the Knife in the later rounds, but I expect Mack to put it on him early and test GGG's will. Should be good while it lasts, maybe up to round 9.
Not a huge step up for GGG though. He needs an actual world level fight soon. He could go the way of Bute if he keeps fighting mediocre opposition.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Don't know about that davide... After the sturm and Martinez fights I'd say macklin is the perfect benchmark fight for 3G. As rowley says if he's the fighter he's hyped to be, he should get a work out, but put him away.
I'm not totally sold on golovkin yet... I'm reserving judgement until I've seen him in with a quality boxer, because he looks a bit one paced to me. But then so does kovalev and they both keep stiffing people.
Given macklin's liking to come forward and mix it, he should really be made for golovkin, and you'd expect the greater artillery to prevail. Macklin will give a good account of himself though I'm sure, and it's not impossible that his workrate could draw the sting from golovkin if he can take what's coming back.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Macklin is too brave for his own good and can only see the fight ending with Macklin being counted out or his corner stopping the fight like with Martinez.
I see it being competitive for the first half albeit GGG still winning but then Macklin will start being pounded towards the end of the fight.

I was impressed with Macklin against Martinez, I thought he boxed really well and wasn't/isn't the brawler he seems to be labelled as. If he boxes smart he could really cause an upset here.
It's win-win for us Brit fans though. After this he surely has to be looking domestically.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Really solid test for GGG, and while it'll be close in the first 6 GGG should start to wear him down and get a later stoppage maybe a round or 2 before when Martinez stopped him
I don't think Macklin will go toe to toe with him, I think he'll try to box more like he did against Martinez as he'll be wary of his power
GGG can be outworked and Maklin has a great engine so it'll be interesting and fun while it lasts
GGG beats Martinez atm for me and a good showing this weekend would clarify this for me

I cant see this one progressing into the late rounds. 3G punches like a mule. He remains me alot like Tszyu.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
GGG hasn't been tested anywhere near Macklins level, although Macklin isn't quite "world" level in my eyes. A definite step up and one that'll tell us a lot about GGG as beyond blustering through weak opposition we haven't really seen what happens when faced with a tough cookie.

I hope Macklin wins, but I can only see one outcome, Golovkin by KO. I think Golovkin is a bit special and he is going to prove it on Saturday night.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
i kind of hope our boys loss (barker, murray and macklin) just so we get to see some great british middleweight fights. seems kind of weird saying that as i have been known to criticize eubank/benn etc for not going abroad, but i can't wait for those guys to get at each other, they have all done themselfs proud so far and murray especially has had some awful luck with decisions.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
This is a great match up to test the credentials of GGG, perfectly pitched at this stage of his career. A good win propels him to where most people think he belongs.
Also a great chance for Macklin to get another title shot.
I think the majority here are right with their predictions but much will depend on Macklin's approach as we expect GGG to come forward as usual.
Much respect to both guys for getting this on.

This fight gives us the understanding of exactly how good GGG is. We know Macklin is a durable world level boxer. Who should give even the very best trouble. GGG shouldn't be steam rolling him out of there. But what if he does???
This is the fight where hype meets reality.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Golovkin hasn't really fought anyone top draw yet.
Macklin isn't top draw, but considerably better than what GGG has been pancaking.
I expect Golovkin to win by KO inside 8.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
Good test for GGG, but one I think he'll pass with flying colours. I see a KO from round 6-9. GGG had underrated skills and huge, bludgeoning power. Macklin is crafty and has shown an ability to adapt to his opponent, but this will be a slow beat down. GGG is for real.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
I have this feeling that GGG will want to make an impression and will come under pressure from Macklin whilst trying to show off. There'll be an iffy moment for GGG before he turns out Matthew's lights somewhere around the 5th round.

Left hook to the body puts Macklin down and out
Wow, GGG is the best middleweight out there and beats Martinez easily for me
Chavez, Quillin, Geale etc wont go near him

Di Bella saying a Martinez fight won't be happening. Way to through a wet blanket on the middle weight division. GGG does have ridiculous power, it was like one guy had a a baseball bat.

Ive always had faith in Golovkin have watched most of his amateur fights and also created this thread back in 2011
https://www.606v2.com/t3056-gennady-golovkin?highlight=gennady+golovkin
the guy has never been dropped and only lost 5 in 380 amateur fights. He is the real deal.

Macklin just became the gatekeeper... Shame, could have been a world champ in some other eras, or even five years ago.

Wow that was impressive. As soon as Macklin got hit in the opening seconds of the 1st round he had the rabbit in the headlights look. GGG just looked different class.
Anyone notice how young Golovkin looks for a 31 year old? Makes me wonder a bit.......

Could be that he registered his age a little higher so he could get into boxing a little earlier.
Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
its a bold statement and Jabby would probably s disagree but a prime Golovkin v prime Martinez, Golovkin wins 8/10 his style is all wrong for Martinez. Martinez likes space and Golovkin is a pro at taking the space away a bit like the Plaster of Paris man.

Ive said it for a long time Truss! Golovkin pancakes Martinez now but prime for prime it would be a barnstormer probable fight of the decade with in my eyes Golovkin wining via late TKO or points, I may seem like a bit of a GGG nut hugger but you cannot ignore that the guy has talent.

I obviously disagree. But Golovkin announced himself on the world like a BOSS. Shades of Pacquaio vs Hatton 2009, and its not just the ending. British fighters seem to be the way one announces themselves to the greater public.

Golotty has what all great fighters have..PRESENCE......He's a cross between Nelson and Chavez....
He pressurises you without doing anything making you work three minutes a round....
Sergio as Blunk alluded to..is all right for him........
Post Mayweather could be a p4p candidate.

Re: Golovkin vs Macklin
I've also thought Golovkin beats Sergio for some time as Sergio is there to be hit cleanly and Golovkin has scary power so I not saw one outcome although it would have taken a while
There is 0% chance they will put Martinez anywhere near him. Martinez won't be fighting untill spring 2014 and already looks a diminished force. If a relatively light puncher like Martin Murray can put you down (twice?) then what would GGG do
Unfortunately Golovkin has looked too good that no one will touch him. Barker and Murray in the studio didnt look like they wante dto fight him, we all know how JCC jr is and Quillin is currently on showtime. I can only really see Geale fighting him out of the top middleweighs and he chose Mundine over GGG
Think Ward still beats him though. He has the skills to compete with Gennady and is naturally bigger and stronger than him so should win by decision
