Wimbledon day 5
First topic message reminder :
Raining in London, but with the roof that won't stop us from seeing at least some tennis. Though why they haven't started play on CC a little earlier today is beyond me. Hopefully if it continues to rain they will at least put on another match after Murray.
Anyway, first up, it's Laura Robson trying to make the third round of a Slam for the second time this year...

Is your age making you more sceptical?
Its not to early- he is the clear joint fav for this..
It's this forum, I think. It's dragged my optimism down.
Personally, I think Murray's the best grass-court player in the world right now, and I do think he'll win Wimbledon this year. He has a relative cakewalk to the final with no Tsonga or Federer/Nadal in his way, so he'll be in top top condition for the final against Djokovic.
But I'd rather not count my chickens too soon -far too many upsets and injuries so far this year! Don't succumb Andy!

I have no idea how I have retained my optimism to my old age of 36!!
Its good to be different mind. The pesimistic drones around the interent will never take my soul(deluded soul maybe )

I like Andy's chances as well, but if Janowicz can make it to the semi I think he can give murray all kinds of problems with his serve and flat shots. As for Djokovic I think both Del Po and Haas could keep him out of the final. It is not a done deal for either of these guys in terms of reaching the final by any stretch of the imagination. Of the two I would favor Murray right now as he just looks very relaxed and mature in his role as the favorite and has the slightly easier half right now.

Slightly easier half right now... That's the understatement of the week so far Socal
Potential hurdles to the final:
- Djokovic: haas/berdych/del potro
- Murray : youhzny, gulbis/verdasco/monaco, janowicz/paire
One has a typical slam route while the other seem to be in an atp250 draw...

You came pretty close to doing just thatDuty281 wrote:Personally, I think Murray's the best grass-court player in the world right now, and I do think he'll win Wimbledon this year. Yes, the draw has opened up for him beautifully. On one hand, I quite like him and would be happy if he won, on the other hand, I have to say I would not mind if someone upset him before the SF (Youzhny, Gulbis?) as that would make this Wimbledon really different.

Gulbis will never be anything other than a dangerous floater.
