Of course they wanted it. Pressure can do these things... it's happened before you know.

We won the line out but Lydiate and SoB were the only guys in there over cole to protect the ball

Do you know how much of a muppet you look like making a post stating BOD will have his best game over before the match, then making a post that he's had his worst game ever after the match?? Neither are true by the way and were never going to be.

No matter what any one says about this game today, it was a typical Australian win to day. They dont do much all game just keep the score board ticking over. But in the last minutes of the game produce a moment of genius and score the points that just put them in front with not much time left on the clock.

A very hard fought game. both teams putting 100% effort.

On to next week and Winner takes all. The nerves are starting all ready.

A team like NZ would never have set themselves a defensive platform like we did today... 1 up and we should go for the jugular not hold firm like England do in football tournaments when they also go 1 up... 11 men behind the ball.

Real champions go out to win, not to go out and hope not to lose.

If your scrum, your lineout is poor then what chance you got at controlling a game. lydiate played a fine game but with warburton not offering much in attack at the moment who do we have taking it to the line if o'brien or croft are off the field.

In the end it almost paid off so its difficult to say it was a bad decision but I do think we missed an opportunity here.... And now we have created a beast and given them air to breathe.

Gatland disrespected Australia by trying to win with a plodding defensive game of kick away rugby and tackle until you drop.  Those f**king tackle number that all stat fans love to quote will lose Lions this series.

The more you tackle an attacking team the less you're ready to do anything in the line of attacking yourself....plus you leave yourself with little time in an 80 minute period to do it.

Nobody looked to get an attacking platform going - nobody, not the centres, not the backs, not the big wings.  Orders from on high.  Gatland thought he'd wise-out a close low scoring game again and it failed this time...but for Beale, it would have failed last week too.

It isn't working and it's the exact opposite of the free flowing minor games in design.  Don't go quoting how bad the other sides are in comparison to Australia, I know that much.  The design is different and yet everyone was saying the minor games are used to hone gameplans and partnerships.

Hmmm.

In the 03 RWC Thompson was told to throw straight over Ben Kay and Martin Johnson to Lewis Moody at the back of the line-out with a couple of minutes left in extra time, worked a treat. Bottom line with the amount of work that goes into line-outs these days is that they should've executed a throw to the back even at that point in the game.

Clever work from Horwill though as he knows the Lions hookers have struggled at the line-out so he's set up camp disrupting ball at the front forcing more throws to the back.

And actually, if you watch the lineout it goes to Parling who gets a hand to it which then goes to Cole at the back. The throw was probably slightly over thrown but not by a lot and Parling was under plenty of pressure as the Aussies obviously expected it to go to him. The error in not winning clean ball initially was compounded by not securing the second ball and then giving away a penalty. We should have just let the Aussies clear the ball and either go again with a lineout or run the ball back.
