Can't agree with you there. Very little difference to having pride in your family as far as I'm concerned. Shouldn't be the be all and end all but neither is it a thing to deplore. If Nationality is a meaningless concept, what does that make Professional Sport? To a large degree it is based on support for non-rational reasons

Dont mistake me for someone that would ever take any note of that ignorant assumption and opinion. You are in a massive minority in the world but not the enlightened minority. Supporting home talent is beneficial for our country and kids.

Re: Wimbledon Day 6
This board does amuse me at times... Any kind of support based on nationality is frowned upon, and yet aggressive tribalism based on which tennis player you like is fine.
Anyway... Come on Laura!

Come on spectators, that was a great point, even if Erakovic won in the end...give both players a much bigger round of applause than that!

Its a tennis only thing. probally due to the fact that so many UK tennis fans havent been used to supporting much british talent because it is so few and far between. So it becomes the norm to appreciate any player based on non nationality atributes
No footy fan would ever have a pop at someone that supports his or her home team..
I am not saying that Footy fans are the better breed offcourse but its the mentality pushed on to people by circumstance.
I am a big golf fan and have allways supported many players from all over the world, but I still have a fondness for all UK talent.- but then we have allways had at least the odd good player.

Well done Laura Robson.
She looked down and out at 1-6, 3-5 down, but came back emphatically to triumph. Wow. What a comeback that was for such a young player - bags and bags of talent this one.
Laura's endeared herself to the British public this Saturday afternoon.
you Laura.

This isn't the place for an off-topic talk about the rationale and benefits and cons of the existence of countries/nations/religions or anything else. There's a separate forum for that

Barring the different tennis associations, which train young players, are split by nationality. Apart from that you mean.

I'm going to go against what I just wrote, and am happy for having my post deleted as OT, by saying that if you basing things entirely on the flawed (yet our only effective mental) tool that is logic, then family has no more meaning than nationality once you have been raised (and even then it's meaning is still on eof convenience, like Nationality) in a modern world

Those are irrelevant. You're lost in a circular argument of nationalism exists 'proving' its important.Duty281 wrote:

If you can define the difference between a German and a Frenchman I'd be fascinated.

Family has a genetic relevance. Nationality does not.

Good game that was. Both gasquet and tomic playing well. The latter just a bit better in the end. Well done to him, needs to improve on his bh and return but was positively impressed.

I see Sijsling retired. Was he injured all along? The score in the first two sets did not look very competitive.
