How Many Days Before Brian O'Driscoll Retires
How Many Days Before Brian O'Driscoll Retires?
Everyone respects Brian O'Driscoll. If he hasn't done everything, then he's almost done it and come back to try again, sometimes four times.
The thing is, that great legends have to know when to dip out gracefully, or they end up with one disasterous slightly embarassing effort too far; the kind that even the avid fan will hold their breath quietly waiting for everyone to forget about it, like David Bowie's last single, or The Rolling Stones last world tour, or the last Crowded House reunion album.
I'm going to come out and say BoD's effort in that last test, was his album too far, metaphorically.
I think the great man himself knows it's time to go - his ruthless competitiveness is starting to display itself less as moments of inspired rugby genius and more as narky childish bickering with the referees and everyone could see he was too knackered to get into his correct defensive position and conceded Australia's try on the weekend.
The question is: When will he announce his retirement?
Will he bow out this week? making Gatland's job in replacing him easier, and less embarrassing on himself? but yet risk destabilising the tour? or will he hold on until after next week and bow out in the wake of a Lions series loss? Or will he leave it a few weeks?

I'm tempted to start a poll myself. How long before greyghost gets banned again and then continues to humiliate himself with constant name changes and the delusional belief that this disguises his identity for any longer than 10 seconds?

Re: How Many Days Before Brian O'Driscoll Retires?
He's an Irish player... an Irish International... not a Lions International.
He'll be retiring from the Lions after next week. All the people who would dearly love to see the back of him can rest easy then and wait for the next big NH 13 to arrive on the Lions radar. (He hasn't arrived yet) Hope he's not Irish coz that would be embarrassing.
He'll be retiring from International duty when he and/or the Irish coach decides....that's the bit that nobody but us Irish will care a toss about.
So the answer is he's a year off retiring if he stays fit and the Irish can find a creative use for him that the Lions tactics haven't.

His contract with ireland and Leinster is to the end of next season. Depends whether or not he is involved in Irelands Summer tour next year- I predict the Six Nations will be his international curtain call with the need to blood new options at outside centre making him an unlikely tourist. Generally the Pro12 final is the week after the Heineken Cup final, normally the last weekend in May. In 2014, thats the 30th and 31st of May so I'm estimating his official retirement date as Monday the 1st of June 2014, which is in 335 days

Terrible thread. Disrespectful and WUM-laden.
Still, it's what we expect from I wonder if will 'retire' soon to save his fellow Kiwis from the embarrassment.

My personal opinion on when O'driscol will retire from international rugby
will depend on (if the Lions ) win this game on saturday.
If they win i think he will retire straight away.
If they lose he may well stay on another season.

He is contracted with Ireland for another season, regardless of how the Lion's tour pans out.

If he isn't injured, I would imagine so. He is still the best 13 in Ireland, we don't have any noticeable replacement yet excluding Keith Earls, who many dislike as a 13 option. Though to be honest I think Keith Earls is our best option after BOD leaves, and every effort should be made to improve his awareness in midfield. His line breaking ability is world class.

That's not Kenny. Even Kenny doesn't know who that is when he looks in the mirror.

Cant think of any rugby players from Kilkenny. Ian Dowling maybe, though he thought he was from Munster.
