Welcome to Season 6 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (Ozzy3213) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1991.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Structured Window
No cash will be used and each team will get effectively free transfers by way of a draft, which will run 12th, 11th, 10th …… 1st, 12th, 11th,10th… 1st place side. This will run from 10th June 2013 until all teams have had their two picks.
Open Window
Open transfer window, teams have unlimited bids provided they have the financial resources to cover them. Teams may only bid for one player at a time.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Saturday. Managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box. If you are not providing a descriptive prediction you will be restricted to predicting a 1 point win either way.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
At least 10 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Like the side but it is highly unlikely to beat that NZ side. JOC out of the midfield thankfully and delighted to see Mogg start. Glad Mowen is at 8, McMeniman is a left field choice.

Re: Homepage
Be good to see Toomua up against Cruden. Both back threes are incredible on paper, have everything. Should be a good game.
Aussies will definitely benefit from the new scrummaging rules, AB's seemed to really get the upper hand against them last few seasons and have gotten a load more front foot ball to attack on.

Even McKenzie doesn't fancy Cooper.
Can't see that backrow competing at all even with a half fit McCaw.

Hooper has been very average this season, Aus miss Pocock massively. Like Mowen but he's no 8, not sure on McM.

Hooper was superb for Waratahs but hasn't replicated that for Oz. Mowen at 8 depends on strength of other carriers in pack, which Oz are okay on but not spectacular.

I just think it looks unbalanced tbh, I didn't think Hooper had a great Super season with Smith and probably Gill stronger. He was pretty poor in the Lions series too.

Hooper and Gill were pretty even. Saw more of Gill than Hooper but when I saw Hooper he was excellent. Crusaders inparticular he was superb. I agree with the balance being slightly off but I have no idea how McMeniman will be like. I know him as a lock forward.

Re: Homepage
Couple of links on Hooper. Voted Oz Super rugby player of the year so clearly was excellent for Tahs. But I agree he wasn't at this standard v Lions.

Have to agree to disagree on that, he was pretty poor in the couple I seen (good in some too) Similar to Lions games really.
Not a huge fan of his tbh, not at the top level. Pocock is on another level, think Gill could step up too

I think Hooper could be the best player in the world. I don't think there is any 7 who has as gooder allround game as he does except perhaps McCaw, although he isn't much of a carrier. Superb carrier, defender and great at breakdown. So physical.
A guy who can gas Israel Dagg, control the breakdown and win so many collisions in a rarity.

So whos looking forward to the opening weekend of the AP then?
Think we might spring a shock and take 4 points from Bath. Without Louw they're pack really struggles and we've got serious muscle with a lot of balance.
My player to watch from Falcons is Andy Saull.

Think it was posted earlier but shows my point re gears form last year. Few strange ones. Fourie as back up best 7 ? He was outstanding when he moved there but it was not for as many games as people like smith who should have been 7.
http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,3551_8856079,00.html
Also tamefuina had a cracking end to season but was bench most of season. Ended in great form but not fit to last more than 45 minutes.
Gets fit and he is a potential world beater

Re: Homepage
Hooper is a brilliant carrier. Say what you like about him but that is clear as day when you watch him. I don't rate McCaw's carrying much as I don't think he makes enough yards to be considered a strong carrier. Just like most 7's such as Pocock, Brussow, Warburton.
Hooper and SOB the obvious exceptions to the rule.
I'll just put it on record that I think Hooper will become the best player in the world in his career.

I think hooper is outstanding he was great in the second test. Has it
All workrate breakdown defence and carrying. Dismantled England in autumn when I went.looking forward to watching him again at twickers in November.
Mccaw an underrated carrier. Does tough yards when he plays 6. Never an 8 though.
Stats mean little in carrying its all about context. Bakkies and etzbeth strong carriers and receive ball often but as its hard yards carries to yard stats poor. Bekker has massive stats carry wise but does it wide and can be anonymous in tight.
Hooper is already world class. May end up 6 due to gill and Aussie options. Mowen looked super tasty at 6 and for me not an international 8. However the way mowen stepped up vs lions shows he is an international class player so may surprise at 8

Hooper isn't a hard carrier, he finds gaps and has good pace.
McCaw offers up first reciever and makes the hard yards, he's a great abrasive carrier. Much stronger than Hooper.

Re: Homepage
Yeah I'm worried about our depth in front row and 2nd row....big ask for Stooke to step up although James would be useful off bench and start with Savage and Hudson. Excited by Steph Reynolds and the lad from Drybrook depending on whether we pick him up and loan him to Hartpury or he goes to Stourbridge.

Think Wasps could beat Quins this time round at the LDH. Was the most exciting game of the season last year, unless you were a Wasps fan watching the second half unfold. We've looked very good in pre-season - were beating Clermont 27-9 at HT in Clermont before we made a load of changes and lost 36-27.
Goode completely changes us, as we lost so many games by 3-6 points and Robinson always missed 4-5 kicks. Only issue could be our lineout, but we've added a lot of depth and have such an exciting backline to watch.
Great to see Varndell back with England too!

Personally think it will favour the smaller more technical props nick. From playing 3 games in pre season it all seems to be about the secondary drive so seems to have negated the bigger lads quite a bitstnick88 wrote:scrum laws should help irish im hoping. too big powerful props in Aulika and Hagan.

The pro's seem to think the opposite as it takes away the chance for the smaller props to get their hips low and drive up.
It's the reason why Robinson has been dropped from Aus.

Driver are you home or away to Bath?
Reckon top 6 will be:
1. Saints
2. Sarries
3. Tigers
4. Quins/Exeter
5. Exeter/Quins
6. Wasps
Think Bath have a few too many youngsters in their backline and didn't strengthen their pack enough, and Gloucester possibly too small a squad if they get injuries in key positions.
Saints for me made 3 best signings and completely changes their team.

Re: Homepage
We were top 4 last year until our form dropped off last 8 games of the season, but lost most of them by a few points. We've made some good signings, improved our team and we won't lose that many players during the international windows, compared to Bath and Gloucester.
Will be close between us, Quins, Exeter, Bath and Gloucester. Don't see a huge difference between the clubs - but Saints, Tigers and Sarries are miles ahead of everyone else.
Newcastle got to be favourites for the drop though - Sale look a different team with Braid, Worcester recruited well - not sure how Irish will do though with all the players they lost.

Re: Homepage
Irish look really bad, we're currently joint fav's to go down with Worcester with Irish just above.
We're an unknown quantity but think we'll do well.
Wasps losing Wentzal will be big, they'll do ok but not top 6 I don't think.

Re: Homepage
Was amazed Wasps didnt go for Kennedy when he was available - we've got Myall and the Argentinian lineout guy and Launchbury is apparently calling the line. With James Cannon there too, we've got some very good lineout technicians - my concern is Lindsay's throwing, don't think it is anywhere near good enough.
Not sure who Falcons have signed pre-season but the times I watched them last year in the Championship I wasn't overly impressed by them - clearly better than other teams, but they didn't seem able to blow anyone away. Though they are a better team than London Welsh.

We've bought some good players, we'll be spot on. I think we'll finish 3rd or 4th bottom.

Not sure about your backs though - don't think a single one would get in Wasps first choice backline (forwards a different matter). Not sure Clegg is a good enough replacement for Gopperth and Cato too.

Re: Homepage
I think falcons will do down. Their backs are terrible on paper.
That said deano is a very good coach which is their best hope.
Who will be there goal kicker?
Think nz could have issues with no goal kicker in their side tomorrow.
Cruden is a 65% kicker this year and has had a miserable time with the boot

We will lose to falcons away its tradition. Guaranteed
Points for falcons. I will go up there this year

Re: Homepage
Cruden was around 70% I think, 75% the year before and 80% the year before that. Odd hrs got worse.
Clegg was better kicker than Gopperth last year.

We might even beat you at your place again.
I feel a lot more confident than I did when we went down, we're much stronger.

Re: Homepage
In nine games with kicking duties for the Chiefs this year, Cruden kicked less than 60% of his goals. In the round 20 showdown with the Blues, Cruden couldn’t hit a barndoor with a cowbell, kicking one from five.

His average was just short of 70%, said so in the final.
He's carrying a groin injury apparently.

I think Falcons will be OK. like Sale they will pick up points at home and grind out victories. Worcester for the drop for me.
I think Wasps will be 8th/9th. Pack has been weakened by losing Billy V, Poff and Wentzel and obviously T-PAYNE! Haskell is injured for a while too. Mullan and Goode decent signings but still cant you see getting top 6. Glos will be good just unsure on theyre front five, back row is immense though.
there is always a surprise package team. last year i guess it was wasps until they completely lost it last couple of months.
dont think exeter have strengthened or improved enough to kick on for top 4 but they will be 6/7 again. hope bath crash and burn but think they will be top 6.
