Key to Lions victory?
This will be another very very close game. Everyone will raise their game & play with fire in their belly.
Look at the stats and the Lions had less than 40% possession AND territory and still only lost by 1 point.
Key players tomorrow:
Alex Corbz: Lions lost 3 scrums last week & IMHO this lost the match. They must perform on Sat.
Mike Phillips: Quick delivery is all he's lacking. He's an 8.5 as someone stated on here & the lions will rely on his extra qualities on Saturday, but good service is key.
Jamie Roberts: Many people who think they understand rugby but don't do not realise his contribution, workrate, efficiency and suttle skill. The guy started as a wing/fullback. He has the pace, skill, aerial ability and offload game, but his talents up the route 1 channel are essential for the way Gatland plays the game. Roberts/Davies is a proven successful partnership and has been an essential cog in the past two 6N tournaments. Davies has had a very good tour and he doesn't deserve all the flack for the Australian try last week. BOD is a good tackler, but he hasn't played with Roberts for 4 years and his decision making/attacking is not as sharp or clever as it has been.
SOB: Good player and I hope he can at least fill the void of Warburton. Faletau deserves his place and Lydiate's tackling will be essential.
If these 4 players have a good game then we have as much chance of winning as Australia do. According to the stats Australia kicked just as much as we did. Our set piece went to the dogs and we made no line breaks in the 2nd test. These players can help provide good attacking platforms. I want to see Davies have a good game in space and North/Bowe must look for work but equally we need more ball passed to the wings. Almost all possession was kicked last week and the back 3 were anonymous.
We have get behind our team. After losing the last 3 tours I just want to see a win. Even just to show that the lions can still be competitive and victorious. The lions is a makeshift concept with very little time to gel. Even to win one test in the professional era is a big success. We all knew that there could be a large/massive Welsh representation. In 2005 my passion was no less supporting the lions even though stars like Williams/Henson were shafted in the first test. Once they're on that field I only see lions.
It's difficult to argue with Gatland's logic. Wales have won two 6N in a row. Individually many of the Welsh players are better, most have performed excellent on tour so far and most players match or surpass the physical profile that Gatland wants to play. Gatland hasn't just been harsh on Irish players. Look at Cuthbert. Excellent 2012, excellent 2013 and a winning first test try. Then he gets dropped. Gatland analyses all areas of the game and he preferred Bowe. Big call that. Tipuric has been a six nations star and hardly involved. Biggar was phenomenal and didn't even tour! Please remember this.
In the 2nd half on Saturday we could see a team of almo English players. I'm very excited to see the impact of Youngs, Vunipola and of course Tuilagi. If the lions win with an English majority on the field then what do we say then? Of course hypothetically there could be 11 Welsh on the field at full time. Even if that happens and even if the lions win, I will still see them as lions.
National identity goes out of the window the very moment the lions squad gets announced.
In Gats we trust.
