I think this was too tough a match to take following the KO. Price should have gone for the easier fight, put what he learnt with Lewis in to practice and then gone for the rematch.

Thomson is one of the better HWs out there but Price threw it away. He was there to be hit.

The jab is often less solid when landing in a southpaw v orthodox. Price's left hook needed to be brought in more to make Thompson go where he wanted to. But yeah, Thompson the better fighter. However he's arguably the best current American heavyweight and Price almost took his head off so he still has options.

I just don't think Price was ready. Thompson has a very expedience good fighter and I think Price looked nervous from the word go, they should have taken a back step and work more before taking another decent fight..

Thompson was correct that Price lacked the mental side of it. He got to eager to knock him out and threw his discipline away after he got the knock down, I think he has the power and the skills but needs to go back to the drawing board as he does not have the mental side behind him and this rematch in hind sight was a very bad decision, from the word go he looked nervous and the reason he started to brawl is because he lacked composure.

the only positive is that he proved that he can most definitely take a shot.

No, he's dire and has faced crap. Price stepped up to slightly below world level and got found out, he was poor. Terrible.

Fury has fought at.....well, what level? His best win is against a out of shape Chisora by decision.

Fury as yet undefeated because he has hand picked opponents that he's always going to be able to beat, he only beat Cunningham from an illegal forearm hold then a right hand.

If you put Cunningham against Thompson, who would win?

With his power he'll always have a chance and there aren't many guys with Thompson's mix of size, experience, toughness and guts.

A shame this isn't some young lad fresh out of puberty. What is he? 30?

he was knocked out in the amateurs and knocked out, too. He was knocked out as a pro, and now he has been stopped again. Thompson is not Tyson. To say there is NOTHING at all wrong with his chin is idiocy.

I think saying he quit is harsh, he took a lot of needless punishment and threw a lot of heavy shots. Think we have to show a bit more respect to boxers than labelling then quitters.

With the lack of quality in the heavyweight division Price could still become a decent contender. He needs to decide a few things though:

1)who is his coach? Franny Smith and Lewis could have been telling him very different things, and tonight looked like he didn't have a clue what the tactics where.

2)is he willing to put the hard yards in and improve his stamina? If not then he needs to develop a tactic that will conserve energy.

When someone's that exhuasted I'm not convinced they have much choice in their actions. He'd already dug his grave by the time of the stoppage.

Wonder if this'll tempt Fury into a fight with Price regardless of the Haye result?

In this instance, quit is perfectly acceptable. He had nothing left, no fuel in the tank but he just watched the ref count him out.

No where near as bad as the guy Ricky Burns fought last time though.

After fury retires Haye you guys will come up with some new excuses. A fat and out of shape 41 year old man flattened price in two rounds and repeated the trick. Fury will beat Thompson with ease. A far more intelligent boxer with vastly superior stamina and skills.

It takes a lot to just step into the ring to have a mess about but to make it your career against real pros takes a lot of mental strength which Price seems to lack.

How could he have gassed so early?????

You can train for 100 rounds but come fight night you can get mental fatigue.

From some stuff I've read he sounds a really dedicated athlete. It will have been a mix of naturally not being a volume puncher, burning nervous energy by the shedload and knackering himself by throwing a billion full blooded shots.

Teach him defense that can turn into offense. Leaning forward with ear muffs isn't a pose from which he can counter effectively.
