Re: Ashes: First Test
Given englands past horror shows when they choose to bat first in a first test (best they avoid it really) then I guess this isn't as bad as it could be. It's not 60 all out or something at least.

Re: Ashes: First Test
These tail enders can sure hit them as well, so if this bowling keeps up, Clarke could see 50+ boundaries, from all down the order. Not great in such a low total.

Re: Ashes: First Test
just not up to it are they.
they need to get better, and never choose to bat first in a first test where they will without fail make a mess of it.
100 short of par at least. Congrats aussie on winning the first battle in this Ashes series. Big mental advantage won today.

and another gone.
i'm sorry but england are total crap today and a lot of late.
if this is what we have to put up with then aussie will win both ashes series and win them well.
just wait for aussie to smash them with the bat. these boys can score well over 400 here.

What a beauty from starc. Again a cross batted shot and the struggle of Baristow came to and end. Well done Aussies.

Going to have to bowl well.

Re: Ashes: First Test
Think we can now call this a Disastrous Batting Performance
I did fear England would collapse once or twice in this series , but had hoped it wouldn't happen so immediately !
Will need to bowl very well...
Anderson survives the hat trick ball.

Re: Ashes: First Test
Early on this day when Cook won the toss and send Australia to bat, I thought he was thinking for the cracks that would develop on day three or four and Aussies batsmen would face problem, but one thing he missed there that wicket will seam and swing. Had Australia put to bat they would have facing the same condition.
From here its totally depend on Anderson and company. Ball is still swinging. But lets hope Aussies to survive.
In between England inning wrapped at 215. A great start of Ashes for Aussies and at the same time England need to work really hard.

I dont think we faced a very good bowling attack, I think the Aussies faced a very poorly performing Englande side. Siddle did well, I think I am going to have to rate him now but I was never a fan.

Well that was dire. If Australia get to close at about 60/70 for nought, we're in for a very tough day tomorrow.

At least 20 more overs left for the day. I hope Watson to show the same form that he had shown during the practice matches. Rogers knows the English condition pretty well than some member of English team. With crossing the hurdle of jimmy and his squad will be an achievement for today for the Aussies.

So hoist up the John B sail,
See how the mainsail sets,
Call for the captain ashore,
Take the urn home, take the urn home
We'll take the urn home,
We'll take the urn home,
With Cook our captain,
We'll take the urn home!
(All credit to the Barmy Army)

Re: Ashes: First Test
This is not unlike the Brisbane Test in 2010 ...Siddle in the wickets , couple of collapses , seriously under par score...
On that occasion the bowlers were unable to redress things , but the second innings batting did the job.
I think on this ground they will need to start the fight back straight away , with the ball.

nothing in this pitch, just England and their lack of application and skill. Just a tiddly bit of movement but nothing really.

That's why the selectors sometimes plump for Bresnan - Finn often has less control. Mind you, Finn is a far greater wicket-taking threat, and that's what England need now.

that's a good observation.....he would hope he can get runs atleast......considered the bet of the batsmen amongst aussie spinnrs and coming at nO. 11

You don't think your words are bit unfair to the hard work done by Aussies bowlers. Before the start of the series Each one of us were considering England favorites. Either it was batting or bowling they were considered superior. Cook Kp Trott Bell Prior all were rated high. Even during the loss in the CT final one of the member here rated their team high above all in test and now you are telling batting line up is not good.
Aussies bowlers faced one of the best batting lineup and wrapped them up to a low total.

they are going to get this score in record time if Watson was able to keep going.
Watson bashing everything and giving away his wicket though.
