Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Certainly plenty of time left in the game...maidens can build pressure , but England haven't seemed bothered by the slow scoring.
Suppose they reason the longer they keep Australia in the field the better...tire their bowlers , let the pitch continue to wear...
Lead over 200 now ...was a time I doubted we would see that
Still a very tight game

Broad struggling to penetrate the infield. There are no fielders in the air Stuart...

Aus got to 280 INSPITE of the failutre of the top order.......and that they will püretty much because a few of the 11 batters will score.
so Eng need to cross 300 to feel they have a grip on game
If we got bowled out now we would be fine and still win. 2 reasons for that:
1) James Anderson
2) Graeme Swann

The reason Kallis moved from three to four for South Africa is to give him greater rest time after bowling... Surely Watson shouldnt logically open?

Difference is Watson wants to open and is awful anywhere else!

Broad calming down.. Problem is he did that yesterday at exactly the same time then played a stupid shot!!

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
I agree with KP that 300 plus would be needed for England to feel they had a grip on the game...but the way this match has gone the only way they will feel that is when they take the last Aussie wicket...
Over 200 means a chance , even now. Another 100 (highly unlikely!) would mean a much better chance...but I wouldn't bet on this match with stolen money...
Fifty partnership

The pitch doesnt look a 215 AO, or 117/9 pitch, it will go five days. Just watch.

aussie to win it on the last morning?
thing is, cloud comes in and it totally changes this.
Agar was playing in perfect conditions. when the moisture arrives it'll be very interesting to test him.

Pressure will play a huge part last innings too. No-one dealt with it well first innings, bar Agar, so it will be interesting to see how the Aussie batsmen go with the game on the line! I can't see Clarke failing again though, unless he gets another rip snorter from Anderson!

and agar coming in with expectation, pressure and an attack looking to go after him and rough him up. could be interesting,
if he does it again then he's going to be the new aussie legend.

"Another 100 (highly unlikely!)"
At the moment i would say highly likely!
and we really dont want to give aus these conditions to bat in either, we will be very stubborn at the crease till the end of the day. this batting performance is worlds apart from day 1. Our batters gave wickets away, we are not doing that today

It would be amusing if Liverpudlians start singing ''Theres only one Agger'' when Agar comes out to bat

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
England always needed the first test to start playing Roakey.
they've done it again but could have handed aussie the game.
their fans are very confident on the bbc because of Agar.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Broad is into the thirties, Bell is into the seventies, and England's lead is into the two-hundred and twenties. This is comfort time now for England, 300 lead looks possible now. Agar's only bowled one good ball all day, and hasn't looked at all threatening for most of the day. England can milk him for runs all day.

I think KP here said anything less than 300 and Eng are struggling. So it's not nearly enough yet. Two days left remember!

So good that he's negotiating peace for the Middle-East in between overs.

Only trouble with that is that it indicates conditions are not too awful for batting...the more we score , the more you feel we need ...if you see what I mean.
But these two have played very soundly. Bell the limpet , and Broad taking on Prior's mantle...
Broad went big then and nearly holed out...keep going lad...

Broad's gone aerial and only just got away it! Hughes tumbles over the boundary. Lead up to 226. Count the runs! You wouldn't have thought we could get this many when we were minus 58 for 2 yesterday!

Yep classic isnt it- the less we score the less we feel we need as well.
However it all goes back to historic data i suppose. 284 is the record 4th innings winning score so.. Odds are getting very short on england at the bookies

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
This is how Broad should bat all the time. Play yourself in and then have a go. For some reason he went through a phase of trying to tee off from ball 1. Doesn't work. But he is playing well here.

and that score wasn't at Trent.
at what point do aussie actually feel any pressure?
so in control , this ground is their playground, the bat and ball their toy, like ring masters of their own circus.

game over then, aussie win.

What the bloody hell?
A clear an edge as you could ever hope to see.
Broad not out. Somehow. Shocking umpiring.
Still if Australia had saved their review from earlier on...

Suck it up Aussies. Use your reviews wisely in future.
Edge for 4.
Doesn't get much better than this.

What happened then ? Broad nicked that via Haddin ,straight to slip ...and got away with it !
Bizarre.
Clarke will be regretting that stupid lbw review earlier on...
Evens up for Erasmus yesterday.

I've never believed in walking. Let the umpire do his job. If he makes a howler, use one of your reviews. Don't waste your reviews either.
