Will Agars 98 keep him in the side? Hasn't really looked the part when bowling.
I would say he could be a batsmen and part time spinner but Steve Smith already does that.

@TimPeachBBC Just asked Geoffrey (Boycott) if he'd have walked if in same situation as Broad. "Absolutely. Once the finger had gone up"

Wonderful gritty innings from the "Shermanator".
Fantastic partnership with Broad. Innings could have been over in a flash when they came together but now the lead approaching 300.
Very well played England. 11/2 seems an age ago.

Bell 6 runs from a ton, with only 17 minutes to go till stumps. He doesn't want a torturous wait overnight does he? Get on with it Ian!

Dead pitch
Clarke, better than any of the English batsmen, will be eyeing up 150 in the second innings.

Ok Gerry, we've got the message now.
First time in either innings England have ever established a degree of control over the game. Australia have done well in not really allowing us to establish momentum.

Indeed. Remember it well. Clarke actually apologized afterwards...perhaps Broad can do the same tomorrow
Kind of poetic that it was Clarke who caught him today...

100 partnership between these two has been passed as well.
Barmy Army in full voice as England have wrested superiority (just about) in this game.
Aye, it's all come full circle.

You'll need to put the subtitles on for Carragher.
I'm not convinced by Strauss either. He's got time to get better yet I guess. Similar to Henman on the Tennis.

Its been a yo-yo game just from session to session, but you feel this last partnership has put England in the drivers seat.
Australia really need come out and knock England over early tomorrow. If England are still in at lunch, they'll feel relatively safe

326/6 at stumps, lead of 261. Fantastic effort by England to bat 4 sessions and only lose 4 wickets. Patience. That was the key, and England were near-perfect at it.
Hope for another 50 runs tomorrow morning, then that should be plenty.
Well done England.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
So in truth Agar is a batsman who can bowl a bit but he's not in this bowling class at all.
Maybe he was selected to spring that nasty surprise?
does give aussie a long tail so they are favourites until you are at least 300 ahead.

Great last session for England. No wickets , 96 runs...
Not over yet , but 260 in front and still four wickets in hand sees England on top ...big change from overnight.
Only concern is it might not be too easy to take Australian wickets later , as the pitch appears to be hibernating . Though that may be down to tired bowling late in the day.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Are we heading for a draw. Is this pitch getting easier- Is it all about the weather!
Is it all about the teams starting poorly.
Not convinced at the moment.
At one point there was 500/1 on the draw- this has gone to 10/1!!!!
Money could have been made allready.
But wouldnt it just be so fitting if england over bat the day and then aus survive!!!

Ian Bell
changing conditions look likely to liven this one up though.
I think KP here said England needed 350 ahead. Seems if they get past 300 ahead they could finally have taken the edge away from Aussie.

Yeah, it does seem an odd selection. He was definitely picked because they fancied him to take wickets over Lyon. But hes looked harmless for most of the game.

Pulls a bouncer - check for height
Edges it - check if it carried
Bowled - check for no ball

McGrath has aussie winning still as they have plenty of time to bat out the win.
funny he's now calling it a 5-0 series. didn't take long.

Well the game that was hanging bit towards Australia till lunch has shifted now towards england. Though Aussies were bit unfortunate regarding the decision of Aleem Dar, when broad was caught. There comes the Issue of UDRS. Well i will not say anything about that.
Coming back to match, Bell is playing the roll of Freddy and KP of 2005 here. His 95 is an evidence of his potential.
For now the lead is close to 250. A 60+ run tomorrow and the game will completely move out of their scope...

Mystir - my issue is that half the time, these things dont even go down as challenges, the umpires are 'just checking'!

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
I take my text today from the gospel according to Sir Geoff:
Legend.
- Spoiler:
- "There is no debate, it's quite simple. The Australians I have played with and have watched, with the exception of Adam Gilchrist, believe in standing and it's up to the umpire to give you out - there shouldn't be a morale argument. They should be upset, disappointed and angered by the umpires. If they keep making poor decisions, it's up to the ICC to do something about it."
"I certainly won't be crying for Australia. It shouldn't over-ride the fact that Ian Bell has played one of his best ever innings for England. I thought Kevin Pietersen played well today and Stuart Broad played quite well too. There has been some splendid cricket. I still think it's a good pitch to bat on, so I'm not sure England will definitely win it, because it's not one of those pitches were you will flash the ball around."
""I would wrap Graeme Swann in cotton wool tonight - I wouldn't want let him have a bath where he might slip and hurt himself. He is vital to England's chances in this match."
Legend.
