Nobody has ever chased more than 284 to won at Trent Bridge in tests.

So it's gonna take a lot for Aus to win

230 is the 50/50 point- but i would tend to agree with duty that with englands 2 main line bolwers and the ozzies brittle batting 180-200 is the relative par

kingraf but that is my point broad has not lied here. Whether he has hit it or not he is not under any obligation to say anything. To lie means to say something which is not the truth. How can broad lie when he has not said anything? For the situation to be the same he would need to explicitly say that he had not hit it. All he has done here is accept the decision of the umpire.

Wonderful partnership that...should prove a match winner. Though the pitch is still playing well enough generally so Australia are not out of it yet.
Of course they still have three wickets to take before they think about the task their batsmen face.

Weather set fair ?

Bit of cloud and a small chance of rain in the evening, seems to be fine for the rest of the day though.

Australia looking a bit tired in the field after spending near-enough 5 consecutive sessions out there.

KP always errs on the side of caution and adds a healthy dose of harsh reality to his analysis of England so I reckon he's a good one to set my own expectations against.

Yeah, we don't want him hanging around too long...we need him to be relatively fresh for bowling duties. I think we have a good enough lead now that we can just let loose with the batting and see how far we get.

Lead up to 300, Swanny off the mark.

Come on England, bat till lunch! I love seeing the Aussies toil out there.

Why is agar getting nothing?  I see Henley player saying he was a great spinner but it doesn't look it,  he looks a bowling batsman.

Thats certainly what he looks like right now. His batting has definitely been far superior to his bowling so far. If this continues he may get re-assigned as a middle order bowling batsman.

That said he did get a couple of wickets, so maybe they'll persevere and let him develop that side of his game...maybe try and turn him into a genuine all-rounder. He's young and has time to improve.

Swanny is a much more experienced bowler so you'd expect him to get more out of the pitch.

Apparently agar has been bowling with a cut on his spinning finger. Maybe this could explain why he hasn't looked so threatening .

Reckon 300 is plenty for the Aussies to chase. Cook should be passing the message for Swann, Finn and Anderson to just have a slog.

Even if we're not all out by lunch, we should declare and stick Aus in. We don't want to leave ourselves too little time to bag 10 wickets.

Bell's gone for 109. A wonderful, dogged innings, that has put England in a perfect position to go 1 nil up in the series. clap

Now a quick slog, and hope Swanny makes a quick 20.

Hmm, that's Aussies game then most likely if we take the KP analysis as gospel. In Kpfan we trust.

Well done Bell. Turned this into a contest.

Bit early to expect young Agar to destroy with the ball...spinners (Warne excepted) need time to develop. I thought he was steady enough.

Before the game I believed he was a "future project" player , so was shocked at his selection...the batting thing has sort of varied that Smile

Swann, living dangerously, survives a number of lbw appeals but is finally gone for 9.

Should probably have just tried to slog a few boundaries. Eng now 375-9.

Expect Jimmy won't hold back and will rack up a quickfire 20.

frustrating morning.

they looked like they were capable of taking the lead up toward 350 and challenging Aussie but nope, they've collapsed and they have no Agars to rescue them.

sadly aussie have time and talent to win this.

Sky and Strauss just pointing out that they chased this against SA in 2011 and that they didn't feel this lead was nearly enough. McGrath also confident England have fallen well short.

everyone agreed with kpfan it needed to be 350. very annoying to come so close to a match and capitulate again.

Well that didn't happen.

Anderson gone for a duck and England are 375 all out. Australia have to chase 311 for the win.

Think it'll be close, but if England play to their best, it should be enough.

not nearly enough. 40 short and a bit of a sad collapse a-flipping-gain.

Very annoying after all the work of Bell and Broad to have the tail just quack out so lamely.

Aussie to win by tea tomorrow at the latest.

So a fairly quick wrap up this morning and Australia chasing 310.

Nothing certain yet...Australian panel here don't sound overconfident...more "this isn't out of sight...if we get a good start etc...". I am hearing hope more than expectation...

Interesting half hour to lunch coming up.

it all depends on whether swann can get anything from a broken up ground. Agar was pretty lame but can contribute with the bat. Swann did nothing with the bat.
