englands tail as good as useless when it was once ok. Aussie have no tail.
that's why they have this match. 3-1 to them in the ashes looking more likely.

But we don't yet know if it was a one-off or whether Agar will be able to repeat that kind of performance.

This Aus side somehow defied Steyn and Philander to chase 284 in the Wanderers, I wouldnt put them out of this...
But thats because I put 20 quid on it.. Realistically, its gonna take a miracle

In a way , the fact that the last four wickets fell so quickly is a good sign for England...shows the fast bowlers can still get something out of this pitch , rather than it being totally dead.
Still " good" to bat on for the top order , I suspect , so the swing will be key early on...

it looks a lovely pitch. Agar probably fancies a double ton.

flowing stuff from Watson. This will be a win for aussie by lunch tomorrow playing like that.
almost more frustrating that England almost got themselves back in the game but fell at the last hurdle. Very lazy stuff from the tail. Pitch looks a belter when aussies bat on it.

I think Trebs means Agar will come in a 110/9, and score the rest on his own, mystir

no trust me betfaor will be 1000/1 for aus to win in aus are 110/9
and that is only because betfair is capped at 1000/1
real odds would be closer to 10000000/1

well this is a superb start by aus. England need to just but the breaks on wato- If they can do that he is the type that likes to score freely and will atempt to much

I tell you what I need to learn to stop being so cocky..
Aus keep switching this game up.. The sinking feeling is beginning to happen.
aus 10/1 an hour and a half ago.. 5/2 at present

[trebell]Yep, Aus openers destroying the England bowling, getting off to a flying start and swinging the momentum back in their favour. England looking very shaky and unsure how to deal with this onslaught.[/trebell]

No chance. Aus win as i have been saying the last couple of days. Shocking performance.
Ian Bell batting well the only positive, should get some of the critics of his back for now, well it probably won't because people need to moan about someone.
Sort it out for the 2nd test.

spot on wolfie.
thing is.. it's true. England have been a shambles in this game. a few players did well but that tail collapse sums up just how bad our batting is getting. when it matters we screw it up.
this looks a very low total. England should have lasted til lunch and should have been 340 ahead. they have only themselves to blame for staring down the barrel of a heavy loss now.

I don't think they can. too many out of form poorly selected players. the problems have been there for a while but ignored and the young players just aren't up to it.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Realistic view : England still favourite , for both historical reasons and because this Australian outfit hasn't a great batting reputation...but it is by no means a given - not a lot there for the bowlers yet and bags of time to score the runs. Plus England had to rely a lot on two bowlers in the first innings...
My head says England , but my gut is still a bit uneasy

My GF is so wound up by me not talking to her- i have just heard the front door slam!!
Oh well , peace and quiet for the rest of the day.. I hope its not a waste of time the weather is beautifull out there. Feels like a shame to waste it. England DO NOT let me down!!

so how did they get the weather so wrong? cook might have had the sense not to bat first if they got it right.

I think England were only ever favourites to win this match when we had the Aussies at 117-9 in the first innings.
Since then its been pretty even.

Watson is a bit like sehwag.
About two innings that he might cliick in this series, he willl take the game away.
As I assesed at the start, between 300-350...chase and this is a very even game....itt will see-saw and hard to predict who will win

Swann already ? Hmm. Interesting choice.
Perhaps Cook feels the new ball will yield quick runs against the pace men and has more faith in their reversing powers later.
Too early to leave plan A for mine , but we shall see...at least Jimmy continues.

Need 280... If they whittle it down to 250 without loss, I think its dead even...
Also, ABSOLUTELY no chance of a draw, we'd need to go back 30 years for this to not have a result..

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
this is magnificent dominant batting from aussie on a perfect pitch under perfect sun. they could win this by early tomorrow morning. will win it. Engs players need to study this to understand how to bat. It's godlike. and Agar the best ever isn't even out there.
i'm now watching because watching batting, whoever is batting, brings wickets.
