Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Some turn for Swann...nothing alarming yet though. Was not expecting England to run through them from the start anyway , but I would have hoped for a wicket by now...I think this match will keep us all on edge for a while yet.
Some patience needed on all sides.

anderson is a dangerous bowler...begining to reverse ...and althouhg aussies also got reverse...no one controls it like anderson.
If Australi do not lose wickets in a heap to a magical anderson spell.....half their battle is won

we have seen a great last stand - an amazing bowling spell from england , but nothing else we could say was good so far.. It has been pretty standard quality from both teams.

Ball should start reversing about now, and is certainly spinning for swann. Think one wicket could easily lead to a few here, just as a swann delivery keeps low.

was anyone silly enough to think England could beat them when they stuffed as readily at key times in this game?

well the bounce doesn't seem to be looking any thing like carrying to whre slips are standing now.
why don't the slips not a meter or two up ?
looking like a good Indian D3 pitch...llike you would find in chennai or bangalore

Nearing that 250 Mark...
If Michael Clarke isnt in before the deficit is 200, Id make Australia favorites... So anything around 111/2.

they are huge favourites. it's a disgrace that England threw away their wickets and just didn't even try, like they never even cared.

rogers, hughes and cowans are all cut in similar mould.......not stroke players with floursih but rather "nudgers and pushers " playing close to the body.
watson, Smith and Clarke are the "attackers" in the line-up

Bit poor from Swann there - much too short. This is motoring along a bit too quick for my liking...need to dry the runs up for a while.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
and to think Cook chose the worst of the conditions for his team to bat in and now he is 1-0 down in the ashes.
this team, a proper well selected team, are playing on a road that englands tail were too inept to bat on.
it's going backwards at a stunning rate is the English game

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
there's call for optimism.
if England can find some batsmen, bowlers, new captain and a new coach in time for the next match then they might have a sniff of preventing this whitewash.
McGrath actually wasn't trolling.

correction it's more like the Nagpur pitch where the ball dies in the pitch.....
Swann needs to toss up more to get purchase....and wonder why Eng haven't used their 95mph pacer who can over come the dull-ness of the pitch

your 350 was 100 under what this side would have got if they needed to.

Seems Watson did take a look into the mirror... After remarking on how good-looking he is, he probably did some necessary introspection.

naah cricket ain't a linearly extraploated game.
one wkt falls and two mnore falls and pitch goes up and down on D5 and pressure builds up.......350+ chase is very low probability.
eng were only about 50 short of a safe and certain total.
now they will fight and this game will still get close

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Aussies have taken all the points so far today. But when a wicket falls - as it will sooner or later - and a new player has to get set , things might get harder for them.
Still a long way to go , though any assumptions that England were odds on to win with that lead have been wiped out by now.
Swann needs to stay patient here - in fact England generally need to. This is not a pitch on which it will all happen quickly.
At 84/0 Australia are possibly just favourites ? Will have a better idea by tea time perhaps.

Duty bats for the other team hence he's not welcome on this board of Englishmen

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
AT LAST!!! England have the breakthrough.
Watson lbw for 46 off Broad.
They review it but its wasted. Australia 84-1.
Will 1 wicket bring 2 or 3?
