I don't suppose we could have asked for a more exciting, close, and controversial first test match could we? England slight favourites right now, but they'll need a wicket in the next 25 minutes I think.

I think they quote it at 3.6mm out but then there was that incident as Wimbledon a few years ago which had it out be more. Cricket stumps are obviously wider 1.5 inches I think but the ICC have left marginal calls with the onfield umpire which I think is the right thing to so if not the perfect solution. hawkeye is more than likely to be right but umpire's call takes precedence unless clear evidence otherwise. Clipping a stump via technological prediction that has a margin for error is not deemed clear by the ICC which I think is fair enough.
Liver I really am not sure why you are bringing up tennis.. Hawkeye is not used as a predictive technology in tennis.. It is clearly very different in cricket when we discuss the lbw's and hitting the wicket, Please dont use the tracking margin of error(however this does at least tell me where your confusion lies).. I have tried to explain above and last night. Maybe not well enough- that is clearly not my strength!!, refer to google!

Mystir, yes it is. Both for line calls ( in that it replicates the shot played) and for data used for coaching players. But no matter, debate over. Alfie's post this morning pretty much nailed it.

How's the pitch playing today lads? No wickets for Swann yet. Is there no spin?

There's a bit of spin, just Swann's not bowling as well as he did in the first innings.

I don't think rain would be a bad thing for England. Collectively, they're not bowling as well as they did in the first innings, so they might gladly take an overnight recharge of the batteries.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
Important spell for Finn. From a personal as well as team angle.
He started this match well with two wickets but it has been all downhill for him since...couple more wickets now would be lovely. But at least some consistent pressure is a must.

Still in the balance, need at least 2 more tonight, 3 ideally. Can see this being a very close finish.

Your being very stubborn tbh. You clearly dont understand how the software works and that is your problem. No disrespect.. but do your self a favour and understand the difference between tracking and predicition..
Both have margins of error but predictions vastly higher. I gave you figures last night if you need to refer back.
if you honestly think the margin of error on hawk eyes prediction is within a few millimeters more fool you. Alfie hasnt even made a point regarding this. Do your self a favour. Stop digging your own grave

Clearly Steve Finn read what I wrote at tea - he's looking fired up here!
Now a big shout for LBW! Looked good to me, no review though.

Some quality bowling from Finn here, getting Smith in all sorts of trouble...survives a decent lbw appeal.

Real dog fight out there now. Smith looking a bit vulnerable - and getting a bit impatient.
But still there.
Think Aussies slight favourites right now. Wicket would change that though...if it comes soonish.

Aussie big favourites. if they need less than 160 when super Agar arrives it's a default win.

If it was given out it would have remained out.
If it was given not out it would have remained not out.
The reason being that the ICC wish to retain some powers of the on-field umpire.

Re: The Ashes: 1st Test, Trent Bridge
twitter flooded with "aussie earning a famous win" comments now.
It's true, agar will be a legend for winning this and Cook a disgrace for his poor decision making once again (putting yourself in under the worst conditions of the game).
hard to see England coming back from it without the players to fill the many gaps. shame. aussies ashes for sure.

it's like two heavy wegiht boxersw in a 30 round fight this test match......27 rounds gone and yet the fight is in balance.
England not giving an inch....on an unhelpful pitcch
and so far Australia has resisted.
the game is FAR from finished

The worrying thing is that apart from Cowan , all the batsmen have got going. England will need to get a couple of cheap ones at some point...
Is that a wicket ? Certainly carried...Out !...but now Clarke reviews..did he edge it ? Tiny hot spot mark ...
.....???. Still OUT !

Alright it was less obvious but it makes the point about having reviews to hand.

Broad has a real knack of getting wickets when tey are desperately needed. Crucial, crucial wicket. For England to lose now.

Wow - HUGE wicket there! Boy did England need that.
Broad has the Aussie skipper caught behind (after much debate and reviewing) for 23. That was their last review and now they have no more.
Aus 161-4 and now they must be feeling a bit less confident.

Agar, worlds greatest?
Yep.
Seriously reckon he will play with no fear again. Will it work again? He could have gone on 6 after all.

Match swings back England's way with Clarke's wicket, presumably such a thin edge that Clarke didn't even know about it seeing as he reviewed it

What a big moment ! Was sure Erasmus would bottle that call
Very faint edge...but it was an edge. So will Clarke be pilloried on twitter now for standing ...and calling for a review ?
And now Smith is gone !

Agreed. As the commentators have said, you should only review decisions if they're blatantly wrong or for tactical purposes...not marginal ones.
OMG - Smith is gone lbw for 17 - Swann strikes for his first wicket this innings and Australia are now 161-5.
England tails are up, the crowd are roaring and surely this match is here for the taking!
