Favourite horror 'series'
Was just wondering what everyone's favourite horror film series was? I really enjoyed the SAW series for some reason, just really got into them!

A Nightmare on Elm Street although it did turn to comedy
The Hannibal Lecter trilogy wasn't bad as horror goes but ignoring genre only Silence of the Lambs really stacks up
Am a bit partial to Jaws (including 3 but not 4), but only the original stands up to repeat viewings

Re: Favourite horror 'series'
I think the most consistent series is most probably Friday the 13th.
Dont get me wrong, the films arent great but they dont vary wildly in quality, unlike Halloween or Nightmare on Elm street for example.
The Saw movies were just silly after the 2nd one.
Amityville were not great all round.
Predator and Alien films were great in isolation but once again as a series feel like individual films.

The only one I liked was in manhatton.

How about the Evil Dead? The first two are great. I can't remember the last one which suggests that it wasn't very good!
Oh, and Adam, consistent doesn't necessarily mean consistently good. Was it Friday the 13th X whn he went into the future and into outer space? Absolute tripe!! Do like the idea of Jason though.

I enjoyed Jason X!
It was certainly better than Freddie vs Jason!
Evil Dead 3 (Medievil Dead) was very good. It was liek a mix of the three stooges, Jason and the Argonauts and Evil dead!
I stand by my Friday comment about consistancy - as I said, not always great (in fact hardly ever great) but never terrible.

I thought the first and second were really good, but since and especially the last one, it's like they're not even tying any more because they know people will spend money to see it
Personally I'm not a fan of horror movies, think as a genre it's prone to predictability and cliches which really hurts it considering this takes away the scares. If I had to choose one I'd go for Scream purely for the first one, thought it was brilliant

Alien was by far the best
Then aliens
Alien 3 I thought was alright. Ok at best but certainly not as bad as some dragged out sequels like jaws etc
Then alien resurrection and the avp were down right awful

Not really a horror movie buff. But I found the Hostel "series" pretty good.

I would also highlight the Dead trilogy with Dawn being the Highlight.
I read the other day that they are remaking Day of the Dead (again!)

Has anyone seen this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Living_Dead_3D
It has Sid Haig in it so its gotta be at least slightly good?

Aliens is just a shoot-out in space. It is fun, perfectly well made and all that, but Alien 3 is actually interesting (if flawed)...
One of my favourite movies is Downfall, which follows the end of Hitler's life. Not exactly filled with characters you're emotionally connected to, but I've never understood why that should matter... There are many valid criticisms of Alien 3, but the lack of "good guys" is not really one of them.

Re: Favourite horror 'series'
HTF can anyone say Alien 3 is better than Aliens...........
But there you go......
I should like it because I get to see a load of Brits wasted.....But it's dark..full of non-interesting characters....
I'll go with the consensus......Alien 3 was tanked by the critics..

Re: Favourite horror 'series'
The characters in Aliens aren't that interesting and are pretty generic.
It reduced an iconic beastie to cannon fodder.

I liked the idea that it used some elements of its host.
Apart from moving on all fours it was the same beastie.
I'll grant you that Aliens is better than Resurrection if you like?

Re: Favourite horror 'series'
I know it's old but an interesting thread maybe people have new thoughts. My favourite Horror series is probably A Nightmare On Elm Street. Halloween has some good ones but the new ones aren't great and pull it down a bit for me. At least Elm Street is campy fun. So that's mine.
