JP Morgans - first teams announced
First topic message reminder :
Leicester Tigers (JP MorganAsset Management Premiership Rugby Sevens, Friday, August2,Franklin's Gardens, kick-off 7.15pm) 1 Michael Noone 2 Jake Farnworth 3 Lucas Guillaume 4 Harry Wells 5 Blaine Scully 6 George Catchpole 7 Pasqualle Dunn 8 Henry Purdy 9 George Tresidder 10 Oliver Bryant 11 Scott Steele (c) 12 Perry Humphreys
Northampton Saints: Vasily Artemyev, Tom Collins, Alex Day, Ryan Glynn (c), Will Hooley, Sam Olver, Tom Stephenson, Harry Bett,Paul Diggin, Sam Harry, Buster Lawrence, Olly Robinson
Newcastle Falcons: Harrison Collins, Ben Morris, Richard Mayhew (c), Glen Young, Michael Tait, Tom Catterick, Zach Kibirige, Chris Harris,Andy Davies, Joel Hodgson, Sean Brown, Tom Penny
These are from a article on the Tigers site. Looks like we're taking it slightly more seriously. Purdy, Wells and Catchpole have all appeared for England under 20s, Noone is former Leinster and Ireland age grade, Steele is Scotland under 20s, Scully a trialist American international and 7s player, Guillaume had some France age grade appearances previously and Bryant is the one I'll be interested to see, he's highly rated in the academy and is the 10 and captain. Doubt we'll win the cup but maybe grab a win this time.

Yep. He's been loaned to use from Plymouth, which may have something to do with the friendly we have against them at the end of the month. He's a pretty decent player though on the 7s front.

The only silver lining to Chisholms injury is that I think Walker might get some bench/ game time in the AP

Hasn't been mentioned on here but it's good to see Wuss looking so comfy playing ball in hand.
Hodgson looks to be a brilliant signing to help guide their youngsters.

Just watching the Quins highlights, I'm so glad we stole Walker from Tigers years ago!! Clifford as well has some real wheels on him, hopefully he'll bulk out a bit more though as he gets older as he has a bit of the Tom Guest about him at the moment, and I like my 8's fat.

Scarily quick team, as you say though the first scrum would be interesting...

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
Saracens have made seven enforced changes for the JP Morgan Premiership 7s finals in Bath on Friday evening.
Newly-signed Jack Wilson will lead a young squad intent on repeating the club’s victory in this competition three years ago. “This is a fantastic competition,” said the former All Black sevens star, “and we’re looking forward to a great occasion at the Rec.”
Joe Shaw, coach, said: “There’s a great spirit within the group and, even though Nils Mordt, Chris Ashton, Tim Streather, Scott Spurling, Eoin Sherriff and Aaron Morris have been ruled out by injury, we believe we will be extremely competitive.”

Blimey are all those players actually injured?! Or more like niggles that they don't want to make worse this close to the preseason games??

Fury, Mayhew & Hodgson ruled out, I think that rules us out of winning the title this year.

Chris Harris, Andrew Higgins and Fitzy replace them.
Be interesting to see Fizty in the 7's environment.

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
According to Olly Kohn's dad, Kyle Sinckler is already one of the strongest players in the squad... with the new engagement rules taking the emphasis off the hit and (back) onto upper body strength, I'd not be too worried. Especially if you put Buchanan in for Ward (he's not as quick, but you need at least one power runner...)yappysnap wrote:Scarily quick team, as you say though the first scrum would be interesting...
And then there's the players you've left out. Tom Guest is only a fraction slower than Croft (and in one game a few years ago played a creditable 20 minutes as a wing replacement), Sam Smith, George Lowe and Mike Brown are all pretty nippy in their own right.
I think, absent OLH and Chis, Newcastle are probably favourites tonight, but I'd not be surprised to see Walker emerge as top scorer.

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
I've read a couple of interviews with Sinckler in various mags and it always comes back to just how scarily strong he is. Having stood next to him I can vouch for the fact that he's def as wide as he is tall and his thighs are wider then my waist! He does look to be challenged in the cardio department though, but then I like that in a prop.

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
We lost to a full strength Racing Metro side 40-28 in France just before their season starts (so... Nothing happened to Quins, Logan is just being predicable) but in the 7s we did let Tigers win a game they shouldn't really have been able to with poor tactics and play (we then won our other game, so not too much issue tbh). Nothing happened, apparently we are making "excuses" for our "embarrassing play" though because Logan has a bizarre anti-fan complex, and either unrealistic aspirations or is a massive troll or is a bit simple or all 3

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
He likes attention. (which we are happy to oblige with)
But lacks the creativity to get it in a positive way. So he is happy to plough in with the predictible stuff just because he knows it will work on someone. Almost every time.
I think it is a bit like a Catherine Tate sketch where the same punchline is coming (e.g "Am I bothered") But the fun lies in how you get there.
It could be entertaning if handled right.
The boring way is to ignore him then he will give up.

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
Quins were pushing the boundaries at the ruck. It led to a mix of excellent turnovers (helping them to a healthy lead) and penalties. Late on Trayfoot conceded a penalty for killing the ball a couple of metres out and got binned. Tigers capitalised on the extra man advantage and ran in two tries.
The Tigers vs Glaws game looked a touch like men vs boys. Glaws looked pretty exceptional in that game with Tigers a picture of dogged resiliance.
As a Tigers fan I'm happy, we lost in the end to a quality team. Murphy is clearly a clued up coach and brought a lot to our sevens team. Some good prospects on display both hookers, Thacker and Farnworth, looked physical, mobile and good hands. The young 9s Triesedder and Steele had good skill sets and pace with wingers el Mahdi and Williams really flying. Might have to sign up the Loughborough Uni 9 Pointer he had bags of skills.

Re: JP Morgans - first teams announced
Most international fullbacks dream of stepping the final man like that. Will he get any rugby for the first team next season?
So which of the young tyros seen in the sevens this season will play the most Aviva Premiership games next season?
