3rd Ashes test Old Trafford
First topic message reminder :
Can't help but feel that the old australian teams of waugh and ponying would have declared by now and backed their bowlers to win the game for them. Admittedly the bowlers were better, but I think we can really see the aussie mentality in delaying the declaration decision. It's ok to say you can't base the decision on the forecast but at 2-0 down it is all or nothing, and they should have gambled earlier.

root's 0(21) is as pathetic as his 1(40) balls was in first inning.

DRS and how it is interpreted by the 3rd umpire has become more important than the game itself.
Get rid of it.
DRS has mucked up F1 too.

Where's Duty and his 3-0 predictions and accusations of 'knee-jerk' to the perfectly reasonable observation that our batting is pants.

Dare I say it Aus deserve to win this one, then maybe England will wake up and win the remaining 2 games, I don't think they approach the game correctly this time.

As is it, even if there is no more rain, I fancy England to bat out the 3 and a bit sessions they need.
Really?

well if we get pretty much a full day from here on, and if kp stays in for the whole time, we may actually get near their total. However, hopefully it will rain again soon and we can all relax.

OK what's going on here ? Thought it was supposed to hose down all day...
Switch on to see Trott departing at 15/2 ?
Sky looks a lot brighter than yesterday...think some of those "Ashes Retained" posts were a bit premature !
Someone will be assuring me it will rain all day from lunch no doubt , but it looks like one of those anxious all day - or rather night - vigils
to me ...rats. Thought this was a nailed on early night...

Suspect it would have been better from an England angle if there had never been any dire forecast of awful weather. Had they known from the off that they were going to have to play virtually the whole 450 overs they might have approached things a bit differently...
It is hard not to have the assumed rain in the back of your mind...and I think it can disturb the needed focus.
Even if there are further interruptions , may there not be enough time to take another eight wickets ? On-off sessions won't make it any easier for the batsmen.
I had a nasty feeling this might happen when everyone seemed so certain of wall to wall rain.

Think KP has missed that by some way but out he goes...
Australia are going to win this.
Fair enough , they have outplayed England here. It seems to be written...that dismissal proves it
(That said , there is a noise. But it really looks to have been some way from the bat)

absolutely embarrassing. australia had exactly the same in one of their innings, i believe the first, and the batsman was given not out. absolutely identical situations. no consistency in any department

He was out or not? Confused. No mark on hotspot, still given howz that possible.
Beside Australia on top. Am eagerly waiting for a win. 7 more to go. Common Aussies.

Its looking Hot Spot (or the umpires interpretation of it) only works one way. It works fine if a Batsman is given Not Out, but on review Hot Spot shows a mark. However if the batsmen is out, when it comes a review hot spot is not taken into account.
More than once a batsman has reviewed, Hot Spot has showing NOTHING yet he is still sent on his way.

Do you have some inside information the rest of us are missing ?
Suppose there could have been a faint edge , but it really didn't look like it. Instinct tells me on a cool day like this hotspot would logically have picked up even the faintest of touches ; but I'm not a scientist.
Whatever , umpires make mistakes - always have. Sometimes at inconvenient times

Why all the knee-jerking anyway. Rain might save us yet, but if not lets not forget this was a VERY good toss to win.
Look at the pattern of the game: bat first and bat on the hottest day of the year. Team batting fourth ends up batting under leaden skies. The pitch hasn't changed much, the weather sure has.

Snicko showed the sound of the edge being found. It may have been faint, but it is clear enough not to doubt it.

Well they were 30/3 twice at Lord's and ended up batting into the next day...but I agree it looks a bit grim.
Changes , though ? You want to drop Trott ? 'cos he is the one who is playing the worst...seriously , they won't be panic reacting even if they get bowled out for 100.
Nor should they. These are the best players ...OK Bairstow may come under pressure if he fails , but there certainly won't be mass changes.

I agree with you, Diggers. And if England do manage to eke out the draw, they'll have earned it rather than relying on the rain.

I don't agree. Snicko picks up all sorts of noises from what I 've seen lately. My eyes tell me there was clear air twist bat and ball...I think it was a very doubtful call.
But as I said , I am not complaining anyway.

Or it didn't actually hit the bat. Snicko in it's current form is not 100% reliable. Neither is Hot Spot for that matter. They are decision aids - not definitive answers to all decisions.
