4th Ashes Test Durham - Page 18 Empty 4th Ashes Test Durham

Post by sirfredperry Tue Aug 06, 2013 6:37 pm

First topic message reminder :

They're all at it again on Friday. Just as England are likely to chuck in a bad performance when everyone expects them to win (Leeds 09, Perth 2010/11, Manchester 2013) they usually bounce back next Test (Lord's and Oval 09, Melbourne 2010/11).
I'm taking England to win one of the last two Tests to ensure a series victory. Onions, it seems, will come in and that could be a good move. Still think this is not a very strong Australia team. It's just that they were an average team playing poorly in the first two Test while at Manchester they were an average team playing well.
Before Manchester, we were asking if Australia could improve/get back into the series. Well they certainly achieved the former if not the latter. Now we could ask - Can England start firing on all cylinders ?

Pretty much perfect from England this. Getting that lead up in double quick time with the ball doing allsorts. Wickets are inevitable, so great the run rate has been so good.

Bresnan at last making a meaningful contribution with the bat. He's 45 not out, and has taken England to a healthy 310-8. Another 25 more, England should be firmly on the driving seat

Any chance of Brezzers surpassing his Test-best of 91? Playing like this, if Swann can hold the other end down, you'd have to say he's got a good chance!

Harris has 7 for the first time in an innings - very useful knock of 45 from reliable Tim. Can Swann and Anderson get a useful 15 more?

Bresnan's in as an all round and Broad is proclaimed the new Flintoff. Bat like men, but as they are cowards it's unlikely.

Only "gobshite" is you, you moron.
What is it that makes Bresnan and Broad cowards? And how exactly do 'men' bat? What a very strange thing to say. They may be slogging today, but both of them are more than capable of holding a bat. Broad has a test 150, and Bresnan has first-class 100s.

This is brilliant rearguard action!!

About time we played to the game and batted positively!!

The way the aus tail collapsed and the eng tail has kicked on in is a complete role reversal!!!

3 boundaries for Swann against Harris and the lead is up to 298.

Lyon polishes off Anderson, so Australia need 299 to win.

Jimmy.... all you had to do was get one single, then let Swann swing for a few more boundaries. Oh well.

This could be close...

England favourites here by a 70-30 margin, and making the new ball count will be crucial.

This is where Jimmy needs to prove these media doubters wrong. A couple of early wickets and he's the media darling again, allow Australia to get to 80-0/1, and he's losing the plot.

Australia has to get past first 30 overs withsomething like 100-1..then it's game ON

if they collpase to 50-3.....then it would be too much for the middle and lower order to catch up

Unless Warner gets Australia off to a flyer, can't see Australia getting these 299 runs.

Warner is the man. If he starts flashing it about, the pitch will look a lot flatter on the ball will be swinging a hell of a lot less!

Those doubters must have short memories. Jimmy was by far the best bowler in the first test. Two five-wicket hauls, wasn't it?

So 20 minutes for the Aussie openers to get through till lunch. If we can nick a wicket in these 4 or 5 overs it will be a big boost.

it's not the swing in the air but nip off the pitch that's available along with uneven bounce...Braod and Swann are best set to exploit these I believe

Very even morning.

I felt anything from 250-300 was 50-50. Anything over that seemed to favour england. shame they fell just short but seems they did a reasonable job.

with quick 4's coming already kind of feel aussie are favourites now.

Going for a review immediately ?

Close ...??? But pitched outside leg ...bad review. Might have saved that , might need it later.

Guess they just automatically think Hill is wrong Smile

Jokes aside , that could come back to bite England.
