What films haven't aged well?
Bored at work, so I am asking a question to you knowledgeable people. Which films were very well received at the time of their making, but really haven't stood the test of time? You know what I mean. They look a bit tired and dated now, so you end up wondering what all the fuss was about. One from me is probably Four Weddings and a Funeral. All looks a bit twee now.

I caught Waynes World the other month on Sky, the humour seemed hugely dated now.

Good shout. I reckon comedy and horror tend to show a lot of cracks.

I realise I'll get pelters for suggesting it was ever any good but I rewatched American Pie 2 some time last year (no idea why) and it was terrible. Really bad. I remember enjoying it in my youth. Must be an age thing.

As above.
The whole saga looks dated now. Remember watching the first one and thinking how fresh it seemed.

Chaplin's "Modern Times" Everything's in black and white, there's no CGI and no-one gets their kit off.

and they said he was ahead of his time!!!!!.........Never found the appeal in Chaplin myself.......Skinny little guy, walking funny with a cane and a stupid little moustache...
Then again it was the same with HITLER.........

Chaplin was a genuis although some say perhaps not as good as Keaton or Arbuckle but it's horses for courses.
Chaplin said he always found Hitler hilarious. He particularly liked the half hearted "salute" he used to give and Chaplin said he reminded him of a waiter who'd mislaid a tray of drinks

Slapstick generally doesn't get boring. Shows like "You've Been Framed" prove that a man falling into a hole is funny regardless of when it happened.
However there' still a skill to doing it well. If you've ever caught Paul Merton's shows on the great comedians from that era you'd be pleasantly surprised

We need an emote icon showing a train going off the tracks to show another thread being derailed. Mind you, given the number of accidents in July, probably best to avoid that altogether. Sure to upset someone.

I was going to limit it to Roger Moore's Bond films, although arguably OHMSS also looks dated. The early Connery films are carried slightly by having more of the 60s cool vibe about them, although certainly some of the 'technology' in them shows the age.

I think the film has aged fine, but the non-humans have aged terribly. That scene in Mos Eisley is embarrassing to watch 36 years on.kingjohn7 wrote:Star Wars

The technology is awkward to say the least. And Bond hugging himself in Diamonds Are Forever, maybe that's just sh1t without being dated.

What do people think about the Warriors? Personally, I still love it, but could never see it being made in the 90s for example.

The Graduate - imagine it today with the woman in Court on sexual assault charges and the lad selling his story to the gutter press and appearing on Celebrity Big Brother
...and don't even bother mentioning Lolita (mind you, given news today, she's clearly a sexual predator)
