Cheating hypocrisy in Boxing..... - Page 2 Empty Cheating hypocrisy in Boxing.....

Post by TRUSSMAN66 Thu 08 Aug 2013, 9:45 am

First topic message reminder :

I believe you're only a cheat If you get found out...and I believe lots of people share the same attitude.......Don't believe any sprinter these days beats Ben Johnson naturally........and yet he wouldn't make the final these days......

Lets face it these days it's very amateurish If you get caught. ....... Hence I believe that a huge number of boxers are doping.......

The ones that get caught are absolutely hammered and prehaps rightly so..........However cheating goes on in all sport and a lot of it is applauded !!..........Called gaining an edge and It's very easy to justify it..Just think everybody else is doing it!!

I mean take Roberto Duran...Probably the most popular fighter of alltime.........and in his day an alphabet lovechild meaning he could get away with anything and he did...

Take Moore vs Duran.........Deliberate thumbs......countless elbows...headbutts...low punches....It was common assault and everybody lapped it up............maybe he juiced too wouldn't put it past him....But forget that last comment........

You think Moore would have preferred a juiced up fair-Duran instead of a completely dirty fighting animal he got that night...I do....

Let's face it I'd have more time for people with their mock outrage over peds.. If they were a little bit more consistent on CHEATING overall....

Duran was a smart fighter..I applaud him..He knew he wouldn't get chucked out in front of 10,000 screaming fans......

Just remember when you applaud cheating don't moan about Peds......After all either condone everything or nothing !!

the biggest difference for me is there is a ref employed to stop in the ring tactics that may be considered cheating

it would appear there isn't anybody trying to stop doping though

my attitude is simple, get good refs and good doping laws and stop both. a lot of the time it would appear we get neither

Who remembers when undefeated Billy Collins met journeyman Luis Resto in a 1983 bout in New York's Madison Square Garden. Collins was an up and coming fighter who hoped the bout would propel him towards the upper reaches of the middleweight boxing division. Instead Collins was battered and suffered brutal facial injuries. Resto's trainer Panama Lewis had cut out the padding in his fighter's gloves in an effort to give Resto the edge. The fight was ruled a 10 round no decision. Resto and Lewis were later on charges of assault, conspiracy and possession of a deadly weapon. Resto and Lewis went to prison and were banned from boxing for life. Collins' boxing career ended, and he was killed in a car accident less than a year later.

I think the fight was on a Duran undercard

Was in fact on the undercard of the Duran/Moore fight.

We get taught to follow through with our hooks to catch with the forearm or elbow when on the inside - its a commonly taught tactic. You're not throwing an elbow, but it is extra harassment. Its at the referee's discretion as to whether to call the boxer on this or not, look at Holyfield and Hoppo, ATG's in their own right, but both huge advocates of using the head and dirty inside tactics to win. Not cheating.

On the other side, you've got people who before the fight want to give themselves an advantage that the other person doesn't have. Using PED's is a wilful acceptance that you can't do something without them and an unfair advantage. Bear in mind, if the opponents of a dirty boxer want to fight fire with fire, they can do. What they can't do is think "well he's on steds, so I'll use them too" because it is expressly forbidden to do so.

Think of football mate, holding the ball at the corner flag at 89 minutes with a 1 - 0 lead isn't sportsmanlike, its a horrible tactic, but its allowed. Before kickoff, having a member of your team wearing rocket boots is cheating.
Been boxing for 6 years and I've never been taught anything like that haha

Just read up about the Collins bout again and have to say I have to re-evaluate my stance on Pryors first victory over Arguello which I can no longer regard as a fair contest. It was at the time seen as bitterness from Arguello but he himself said that Pryors gloves felt different to usual and as well as the bottle there is too much that doesn't add up in that bout.

Riddick bowe vs golota was blatant cheating and rightfully waved off
Should Rjj vs griffen have been called a DQ?
Pacquiao double punching clottey should that be a DQ
Was Ortiz head-but a DQ?

All different levels of cheating golota should've been DQ before the 4th IMO
RJJ I thought was slightly harsh getting DQ
And Ortiz and PAC getting the right punishment even though both are classed as cheating!

All different levels of cheating would you give the same punishment??

Well Dave, I suppose different trainers teach different things. My trainer (I don't go any more) was a dirty inside fighter apparently. I boxed nothing like him, he just taught us to follow in with the elbow after we'd thrown an inside hook.

I partially agree with the idea that all cheating is cheating and should be punished equally but there are clear degrees of cheating which need different punishments. A fighter holding on a second too long after the ref call break is an intention foul but no way should it carry the same punishment as someone caught with plaster in their gloves. On a side note nothing annoys me more in boxing than when skillful boxers cheat repeatedly and it just gets glossed over as "he's no stranger to the dark arts" whereas if more of a bruiser/slugger type boxer fires one punch low or hits on the break once they get called dirty fighters.
