If you can't get behind Joshua . . .
Then I don't know who you get behind as a Brit boxing fan. Just watching his latest iFilm interview and he is very humble and self-aware. Really hope he goes on to do great things. I just hope he doesn't get over exposed in his first 10 - 15 fights. Want to see him under the radar a little bit after his big debut.

I don't know much about him myself but reading some of the boxing boards he doesn't seem to be highly rated. Lucky to win a gold and all that. Limited talent apparently. Getting too much hype. Eddie's milking him already and its only his first fight. That's either extreme confidence or Eddie's making the money while he can.

Re: If you can't get behind Joshua . . .
Nice lad but watching him at the Olympics, he displays enough technical flaws to suggest that he's A/ Not going to make it to the top or B/ Needs breaking down and rebuilding if he's to have any sort of lasting career.
I'd like to think he's genuine in his desire to make a go of things but perhaps the cynic in me thinks that, along with a lot of the other Olympic "heroes" he'll take the money and run.

Very humble and self-aware don't win you heavyweight titles just ask a certain lovable guy named David Price. You need to be a little mean and confident, to the point. Fury will become the next heavyweight champion. He hardly makes any sense but who cares? he is a winner and is doing what he says he will do. So what if Joshua is articulate, approachable, down to earth is he applying for a job in GAP? no he is a fighter he wants to apply his right hand to someones jaw.Seanusarrilius wrote:Then I don't know who you get behind as a Brit boxing fan. When Tyson was 15 years old he was asked about his previous fight and he stated that ''I just wanted to uppercut his nose bone through his brain'' everyone gasped but WTF he a fighter and he went on to become champion. Its rare that people should stick microphones in a mans face before his first pro fight but because Joshua is Olympic champ he is an exception but he must man up if he must talk.

Really hope he does well because as you have said Sean comes across as a likeable young chap. As Dave has said he has a lot of flaws but to win an Olympic medal after such a short amateur career shows some natural ability and suggests he is a quick learner.
Real test of Eddie’s abilities this because he is young enough to take slowly and as far as blank canvasses go he looks to have enough natural gifts to become half decent if he is trained and matched right. Wish him well and hope he makes it.

I think he has enough raw talent that, if refined, he can go on to do some damage in the HW division. Still young, with plenty of time to refine his skillset. Tough task at HW, but wishing him best of luckONETWOFOREVER wrote:Very humble and self-aware don't win you heavyweight titles just ask a certain lovable guy named David Price. Wasn't that after the Jesse Ferguson fight? Well into his pro career.ONETWOFOREVER wrote:

Suspect so Tina, would definitely have been after Gus Tomato died because as everyone knows Tyson was a paragon of virtue before that point.Mind the windows Tino. wrote:Wasn't that after the Jesse Ferguson fight? Well into his pro career.ONETWOFOREVER wrote:

No need to apologise, ONETWO. I can, on very rare occasions, get things wrong.ONETWOFOREVER wrote:no sorry you're wrong tino
However, I don't think I am on this one. It was something about 'jamming his nose into his brain' after Ferguson had been hanging on to him too much.

I'm with Tina on this (althogh it may have as much to do with against whatever ONETWO is currently standing for as much as aything else ) but I'm sure Tyson didn't come out with those comments at the age of fifteen

Knowing what we know about ONETWO's shady past, he was probably in the gym with Mike at the time.DAVE667 wrote:I'm with Tina on this (althogh it may have as much to do with against whatever ONETWO is currently standing for as much as aything else ) but I'm sure Tyson didn't come out with those comments at the age of fifteen

Re: If you can't get behind Joshua . . .
You know the drill, Rowley. I saw a YouTube video featuring Tyson the other day in which the top rated comment went something like "What a champion. Just a simple, decent man who found himself surrounded by a world full of greed."Rowley wrote:Suspect so Tina, would definitely have been after Gus Tomato died because as everyone knows Tyson was a paragon of virtue before that point.
Think along the lines of Hugh Grant in 'Notting Hill.'

I am certain that Tyson made no such remarks when he was a 15 year old.
If I am wrong, I would genuinely be interested to see where/when the remarks were made.

My memory may be a little shady but I have an image of Tyson saying it in the ring after the Ferguson fight and having some sort or nervous/sinister giggle going on at the same time. Scary guy.

He said it after breaking Jesse Fergusons nose in 1986 aged 19.

Joshua has the personality of a peanut. Looks so uncomfortable in front of the camera and just comes out with boring, overused cliches. Him and Lennox on ringside a couple of weeks back was sleep inducing.

Interestingly enough, Jesse Ferguson was Tyson's first televised fight, and he was 17-0 at the time. I hope we don't see much of Joshua until then....

I also remember him saying something along the lines of 'forcing his nose up in to his brain' after the Ferguson fight.Mind the windows Tino. wrote:I suspect you won't find them, Gent.Gentleman01 wrote:I am certain that Tyson made no such remarks when he was a 15 year old.

I've watched a lot of Tyson's early career and would be surprised if this were true, Tyson didn't really start making these sorts of comments until he was a little older...

Am almost certain it was the Ferguson fight. Remember Camille Ewald was asked about the comments and sure she said something along the lines of Gus would not have approved. Had he said them at 15 Gus would have been able to answer for himself what with him being alive

I'm still puzzled as to why being from Watford should exclude you a chance of a successful boxing career, and whilst Fury's mouth might have won him participation in a big fight, he's going to have to rely on his ability to win it. Talks cheap, as I suspect Mr Fury is going to learn. As for Joshua, he looks like his has the basic tools needed, the raw ingredients may be there, good luck to him.

Joshua certainly rode his luck at the Olympics, but hd looks like he has the raw tools and time in his side. I wish him well and think he has a good chance.
Obviously it would be preferable if he was threatening to eat his opponents children, but looks like we'll have to settle for the boring old nice guy act instead.

Seems a top bloke always has time for chatting whether in person or on twitter.
Also it must not be underestimated how much he has achieved in such a short space of time. Yes he has errors in his game at the mo but nothing that can't be ironed out if he is managed correctly.
I'm definitely going to be getting behind him.

I gather he's already down to fight on the Kell Brook undercard three weeks after his debut. This should give you and idea of how rubbish his opponent will be.
If Joshua gets cut or KO'd that fights down the pan so clearly Eddie had drafted in a right muppet....and no sign of TRUSS on the boards (coincidence?)
