too many french players at Newcastle!!

Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer says the large contingent of French players at the club is unhealthy.

Newcastle's recent capture of QPR forward Loic Remy on loan means Alan Pardew's squad has 11 French players.

"I don't think it's a healthy thing to have too many French players in one dressing room," Shearer told BBC Radio 5 live.

it worked for arsenal . Newcastle got some good players , but they also got to many chiefs at the mo . who actually decides to buy players .besides how can Alan say that, when he was an international France dominated Europe .

Of course he's going to say that, he's wants to see more english home-grown talent at the club but he must surely understand the ways of football now. The foreign owners buying City, Chelsea and the rest just snap up our young stars and they either prosper or get benched and their careers stagnate. They get bought for £15m+ , long contracts and put on high wages. Therefore, seeing them leave those big clubs for clubs like Newcastle is way off down the line. We work with limitations and that is money available n wage on offer. That's why we go abroad for the talent because it's cheaper and they demand less wage. it's also a better financial model for long term stability. Look at Carroll and the profit the club made on him, ridiculous. We'll do the same with Cabaye, no doubt. Buy him for £4m and sell now or next season for £15m........cycle continues.

Shearer is right because when things go wrong in the league, we havent got that british steel who's up for the fight in those winter months. That's the way it is and that's why Pardew's job is incredibly important and why our season probably depends upon his man-management skills and keeping the players motivated. Expect a difficult start at City but then our season really starts.

I don't think you'll find Chelsea buying English players for £15m+ and benching them. The English players we've bought under Roman are Glen Johnson (£6m), Joe Cole (£6m), Wayne Bridge (£7m plus Le Saux), Scott Parker (£10m), Wright Phillips (£21m), Ashley Cole (£5m plus Gallas), Daniel Sturridge (£6.5m) and Gary Cahill (£6m). All of which were first team players from the off. The only English players we've signed and didn't become regulars were Sidwell and Turnbull and both were free transfers plus Patrick Bamford (£1m from Forest) who's now only 19 and plays week in week out at MK Dons and this summer we signed a 16 year old from West Brom for £200k. Can't remember if we ever paid Bristol Rovers for Scott Sinclair.

City & Liverpool are the clubs who buy English players for high prices. Not Chelsea.

Sorry, I was just giving quick examples in response to the post, yeah Chelsea not the worst offenders. Just seeing players like Henderson last year benched (£20m), Downing (£18m) benched, Milner (£26m) benched. Also me stating £15m + was just a random fee I plucked out of nowhere really but you get my point, in relation to Newcastle's financial strategy.

I do get your point. English players are ridiculously priced but Chelsea and United have gotten great deals on English players. It seems the ones that go for big money to City and Liverpool are just the flavour of the month and/or can't handle the big price tag.

I disagree, I think premier league players are ridiculously priced. Any decent premier league player moving t another premier league club seems to cost a bomb.

All players get sold for a bit much but there does seem to be extra added on for English players. But the difference between finishing positions is so much money that selling to a team that may put you from 8th to 10th is a big loss in revenue and your end of season bonus.

Yeah I think clubs are always going to be happier selling to a team abroad because the difference between clubs is getting less and less.
