I like AVB. I saw a lot last season that made me think he had found his feet.

And Spur lose 1 World Class Player but have strengthened across the squad. Now they are less susceptible to injury, suspension and off days to that one player and have a far stronger squad.

Isn't that what is needed to compete at the top consistently? I thought Liverpool showed that. You need strength in depth, not being a one or two man team

Currently they've spent 85m (including Chirches and Lamela) and have gained 52m without Bale being included. Add Bale on top and that's a gain of 52m over the summer whilst overall dramatically improving the team at the expense of 1 WC player.

A lot of different players in the current Spurs team than in the past. In the past, they didn't have a whole of lot of players, nor a manager, who had won things. Now they have players and a manager who have won trophies, albeit in other countries.

I don't think the mentality of the current Spurs team can be compared to those of the past.

Plus United had no title winners before they first won the league. They still competed.

Who have they sold to raise that £52m?

What is this disturbing Spurs love-in?

They have a good squad with a lot of players I admire and like to watch play. But they are still Spurs, and they will find a way to blow it, to flatter to deceive.

I am willing to donate £10 to a charity of your choosing if they beat Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday too.

I worked out £24m from the sales of Caulker, Dempsey, Parker and Huddlestone.

Haha yeah, United cheated Leeds on that one. If that same instance happened now, Cantona would be worth £40m but United would have to pay £80-£100m to get him. Leeds barely made any money on that deal

Moyes would probably start the bidding at £10m though

I would give my opinion on Spurs buying but it's fairly bias  

That being said it just looks like they've bought from the Europa League bucket apart from Eriksen all the other sides they've bought from have failed to get CL. There all good players but not what ud buy for a CL chase over a season. It's going to be a shame seeing Dembele presumably with their signings

Most managers would, seems to be the cool thing to do at top clubs, bid low & negotiate. Unless your Wenger, you just bid low & then say to the fans we tried.

But what they have bought are the best players from the Europa League bucket. The ones who actually should be in the CL.

And also on that basis, they are selling Bale, but only selling a Europa League player. Should Monaco have aimed a bit higher than Falcao because he was a Europa League player.

And they're still better buys than 15 year olds from the French B league.

I was thinking last night if all the premier league players are on their 100% fully best how high would Bale rank?

I agree on Spurs finishing above Arsenal, but that's due to Arsenal having a squad weaker than a young Ethiopian child and failing to bulk it up.

Or in United's case, a Championship player.

We should see Norwich challenging for the league as they signed Quag, Fer and Hooper, all of who have been playing in the Champions League recently

Doesn't it seem weird that no other sides are trying to hijack these deals? surely if their good enough for a CL club hearing that their available would put Cl sides on alert especially when their 12 & 25 + add ons?

Bale would be in the Top 3 with Suarez and Mata for me.

It is weird. I'm only going on my opinion from what I have seen, and I really don't understand why no one else is going in for them

Wow I didn't expect him to be ranked that high. Persie, Rooney, Suarez, Aguero, Mata, Silva, Toure, Torres id put above him top of my head.

Nah, RVP, Suarez, Rooney, Mata all at 100% would be better. Bale would join that list & make top 5.
He may of carried Spurs for parts of last season but IMO they are all better when at the top of their game.

Torres hasn't been at that level for 3 years now, you have to drop him Viva. It's never going to happen.

RVP, Rooney, Aguero, Suarez, Mata and Scholes+ I'd put ahead of Bale. I remember Phil Neville keeping Bale quiet twice in one season

I'd have Suarez, RVP and Bale as the three best, but I think Bale will get better again and be better than both the other two.

Bale is a special player IMO

Viva, Aguero, Silva & Toure all had disappointing seasons.
Torres wouldnt even make a top 10 for me, maybe not even top 15.

Lamela - Yes Eriksen - No if we needed an AM sure but atm id rather have Santi Cazorla

I took the context of your question as at their best in recent memory, Torres has been dreadful in recent memory so that was that I based my answer on.
If you want to go all the way back to Torres in his L'pool days we may as well just go back to Yorke & Cole destroying everyone on the continent! Ronaldo at his best would beat them all hands down. Bergkamp. So it depends how far you want to go back.

Well the price tag will result in Madrid doing their damnedest to escalate him to that level. I see Isco as the one the fans want to support though being a native.

I agree with you Afro, I rate Bale, Van Persie and Suarez as the top three players in the premier league, think they're almost impossible to split.

I think Bale could be marketable abroad as the British guy, shirt sales would be crazy and it's been a long time since top players have done anything abroad. I'm thinking Lineker, Beckham level.

Me too. I said during last season he reminded me of Ronnie, tall, powerful, quick, good with both feet, improving with his right, like scoring braces for fun but rarely the hattrick. He also played more in field last season & on the right flank then prior season thus changing/adapting his game & improving it.
Bale is an explosive player just like Ronnie is.
