Thompson v Pulev
First topic message reminder :
Now understandably, this fight have received little coverage outside of the two camps (and I don't expect this thread to generate much more in the way of interest either) but Kubrat Pulev and Tony Thompson square up for an IBF HW Title eliminator in Germany this Saturday. The winner theoretically gets to face Wlad although I think we're all acutely aware that it's unlikely to happen.
Thing is, what is Thomspon putting his tea these days? It's not that long since he dispatched David Price (cynics may suggest he didn't have to exert that much in the way of energy) but here he is in with another well ranked opponent. At 41 years old, he's certainly got a spring in his step.
I find it refreshing that we have a guy willing to pack his bags and travel where the fights (and money) are for him with some degree of regularity and puts to shame many of the more established fighters who lace 'em once in a blue moon (or longer). Whilst there's little chance of him improving on his past performances against Wlad, I almost want him to win at the weekend as a reward for getting on the road like he has done of late.

Didn't mean to post the above. Just meant to think it.
Kubrat should really have stepped on it. Frustrating to watch the guy stand there not letting his hands go when he does damage every time he decides to.

Pulev dominant, no hope against Wlad though. Shows how far down the ladder Price is at the moment.

Why was Thompson undressing in the ring?

Umanimous decision.
You'd think a boxing commentator would be able to say unanimous.

Re: Thompson v Pulev
To be fair, Thompson always looks shattered from the first bell so there was no need for Pulev to step it up when you just dont know whether Thompson is saggin or just slow as normal. At the end of the day the win is what mattered.
But saying that, Pulev has no hope of beating Wladamir

Not a German card without a robbery! Dustin Dirks robs a Czek fellow to a draw.

Yeah, clear win for the Czech there. Hard to see a case for anything else.

Amazing how highly Arthur Abraham was once rated. So limited.

Tuned in too late. I though Pulev was headlining.
Would Pulev take Haye on tonights performance.

Re: Thompson v Pulev
I very much doubt Pulev would have much of a chance against Haye. Saw nothing special in there even when Thompson was zapped.
Abraham is looking an old and one-dimensional fighter, relying heavily on the odd bomb landing now.

Dreadful scoring from Vann in particular.
Very close fight and would not have argued with either man narrowly or a draw.

Pretty much a perfect summary of an absolute dross fight.jimdig wrote:Thompson is done. Pulev will be no challenge to wlad. Ropes wayvtoo loose.
Though it did make me think whether I've been under-rating Fury a bit. Think he'd do better against Pulev than I originally thought, if he boxed really sensibly (properly under Peter's thumb, like the Kingpin fight) I think he'd have a chance at a narrow points win even.

And yes, to utterly crap decisions on the card's other main fights.
German boxing really is a joke.
