5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
First topic message reminder :
If they fail to get close in a test match because Aussie don't give them anything and have good fields it means nothing of the sort

What a load of old rubbish.KP_fan wrote:Aus has made something out of nothing.

Rubber meets the road
if they fail to get close....i.e within 30 runs of winning..then they are as many believe simply lucky and going down the hill.
If they even for once think they will get bowled out in 40 odd overs......then it's already a moral defeat.

England's 1st innings was perfect. And now England's second innings is going towards perfection.
Negativity?

It's got to the stage now where even if England lose a wicket, they won't shut up shop, because glory is just around the corner.alfie wrote:Not really though. In fact he will probably get most of the credit , for making a game of itDuty281 wrote:Australia are in a personal hell, and Clarke is facing utter humiliation.....
Still a lot to do , and KP very much the key.
Fun to watch though...

England 145-2. 82 needed off 14 overs at nearly 6 an over.
KP's got his 50 and Trott just shy.
Getting a bit tense. Australia could just strangle England's scoring opportunities...especially if "Mr Economical" Watson is bowling.

Watson doing a good job here. KP not going kamikaze yet...he doesn't need to.
As long as the rate is six-sevenish , anything can happen in the last five.
But hard for anyone else to keep this rate going , with boundary riders everywhere...

Australia would be best served to slow this to a crawl now. The light appears to be fading, and I'm sure Australia wouldn't want to bowl spin at both ends (and I don't blame them).

64 from 60 balls, 8 wickets remaining.
Looks a walk in the park, but this is under Test match conditions.

Thought the lesson from Propper Test Cricket Fans to us ignorant T-20 lot was that ones a team scores close to 500, the opposition should give up on all hopes to win and play for a draw from day 2 onwards?Duty281 wrote:Different situation.msp83 wrote:Perhaps they are back to playing Great, Perfect Test Cricket!.Duty281 wrote:Or, in a bizarre twist of fate, Simon Kerrigan.Olly wrote:All set up for Ian Roland Bell MBE, Man of the Series to hit the winning runs...

KP the "misfit" in this defensive side.....did his part.
can the rest finish it.
I would send Swann as a pinch hitter to get RR in control

KP gone ...just when it looked like an astonishing England win...
Think it will be tough without him from here...probably needed about twenty more.
But a terrific innings

Uh-oh.
KP gone for 62 and England are 163-3.
Great innings and just what England needed. Now its up to the "mere mortals" of our batting line-up to try and get us over the line.
64 more needed off 10 overs. Will be difficult but instead of boundaries, how about running 1s, 2s and 3s?

Delicious 4 from Trott there. But gone next ball.

Something about winning when the opposition has made 500 first up is unlikely? The T20 remark was made to someone who questioned why England weren't going at 6 an over in the first innings. (Ludicrous)
And England's first innings was perfectly-paced, and took the loss out of the equation.

Yes I'd agree with that Mysti. Not enough overs left for Australia here to take all six wickets, and it's still quite close to victory for England.

And though Clarke deserves huge credit for making a game out of nothing, England's positive approach today led the way. When Prior and Swann played positive cricket, England quickly cut down the Australian lead, and provided enough time for Clarke to think of a positive or even generous declaration.

Yeah , boundaries scarce now. Need a monster over , and not sure anyone but KP could produce that now.
In ODI you have fielding restrictions , and it makes a huge difference.
Barring a spate of sixes , this is going to be a draw.
Have to praise the Australian fielding ...saved a lot of runs. If they were playing India , we would all be having a celebratory drink by now
