5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
First topic message reminder :
If they fail to get close in a test match because Aussie don't give them anything and have good fields it means nothing of the sort

Rubber meets the road
if they fail to get close....i.e within 30 runs of winning..then they are as many believe simply lucky and going down the hill.
If they even for once think they will get bowled out in 40 odd overs......then it's already a moral defeat.

And one rather gifted by Clarke , it should be remembered.
And though Clarke deserves huge credit for making a game out of nothing, England's positive approach today led the way. When Prior and Swann played positive cricket, England quickly cut down the Australian lead, and provided enough time for Clarke to think of a positive or even generous declaration.

6 an over in the last 6 overs has to be perfectly gettable. Australia have to produce something extraordinary to even save this game. If England lose a wicket now, think Graeme Swann or Stuart Broad should be promoted ahead of Matt Prior.

matt prior won't lose his place MSP- he batted well this morning.
But in test match conditions 6 an over isn't that easy. boundaries are rare

England were wasting time on day 3. Now Clarke is taking his time....... Will the light hold fine to see this game through?

Watson using every trick in the book...he has kept Australia in this after the KP onslaught.
Should be MOTM , even if England do this.

Prior hasn't been his usual self in this series, and he hasn't often responded very well to containing fields.mystiroakey wrote:matt prior won't lose his place MSP- he batted well this morning.

33 more from 5 overs. Uphill task for England, since Australia are pretty much entitled to fling it way outside off or down he leg side, and the light is getting worse. #spiritofkarachi

Brave Aussies deliberately bowling down the leg side in the hope of preserving a 3-0 series defeat. Who'd have thought it?

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
Tension cranked up to almost unbearable proportions...
England 194-4 and need 33 from 5 overs...
Still needing around 6 an over...
Think the win will just elude the home side by an agonisingly close margin.

Screw that, they have 2 spinners they can go play them or else throw away their notions of a "moral victory", being fostered since Test 1

I'm never a fan of changing the rules for the situation. And if Australia are employing 'gamemanship', they're perfectly within their rights.

I've been out but listening.
so they got within a score that even kpfans ridiculous wum earlier confirms as a fantastic effort.
and now captain negative Clarke is trying to get them off for light.

That'll do. Fair play to the umpires. Perfectly correct. I'll take 3-0.

poetic justice perhaps? A team that never wanted to win by day 2 should not get away with it eventually.

Can't complain...that's the laws.
But it seems a pity to end in such an anti-climax...

A relief for Clarke and his team and a big frustration for England, 3-0 scoreline is good, but could have been better. Sorry Guys, the umpires once again
