5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
First topic message reminder :
If they fail to get close in a test match because Aussie don't give them anything and have good fields it means nothing of the sort
1/10. Troll harder.
What a load of old rubbish.KP_fan wrote:Aus has made something out of nothing.
Moment of Truth for Eng
Rubber meets the road
if they fail to get close....i.e within 30 runs of winning..then they are as many believe simply lucky and going down the hill.
If they even for once think they will get bowled out in 40 odd overs......then it's already a moral defeat.

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
Clarke having a rare bowl.
Might see a bit of bowling into the rough now.
England have played quite well so far , but they haven't raced away with the scoring rate. I can see the target gradually slipping away from them over the next ten or twelve overs.
Then it will be a case of how many wickets down and whether the rate is quite out of reach.

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
this isnt an odi game- so i dont understand why we are using our odi plan..
stay steady and then bash the last 20!!
no if we don't lose our wickets we draw!! This is still a test match. Get the rate up now. if we lose a couple of wickets just bat the draw..
They are doing it back to front- If we have a go late with bad batters- aus could skittle us!- we need a consistent rate to win

England are going about this the right way. Set the platform, then attack. If you attack too early, it won't work - remember Headingley 2012?

Running good by England thus far. Nice cut by Cook there as well.
10 off that over. Who's starting to believe now?

great to see trott playing well.
England are upping the rate.
We cant just leave it till the last 20 or 15.. need to keep it manageable.

Best innings all series by Trott!
Cook and Trott doing a fantastic job to keep the RRR below run-a-ball, which is just where it needs to be.

Runs starting to come thick and fast for England.
81-1 off 18 overs.
146 needed off 26 overs. Very do-able. Just need to keep up this T20 approach.

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
I remember Manchester , 1961.
Similar target ...few more overs though. The fashion for scoring was a bit slower then
Dexter played a blinder , and at one point England were 137/1 and looked like winners. But Benaud came on , took six wickets , and Aussies won match and series...
No Benaud here. But you don't want to assume you are bullet proof too early. I am all for going like this for a while yet , and if it still looks reasonable , go nuts when you really cannot lose.
The other thing is , if you launch the real assault late , the fielding side will find it hard to shut you down by going ultra defensive.

Cook gone.
Bother. KP in earlier than I wanted. He either accelerates the team to a remarkable win , or he goes cheaply and they put the shutters up.

well you are to late after that wocket
would have gone down to 45 now mate.
point being though if a few wickets go england will just bat out the draw- realistically unless england go kamikaze(which they wont) england cant lose.

If Australia got 8 wickets in 23 overs, it will be a greater come-from-behind victory than Adelaide 2006. It just won't happen.
Now England on the other hand, can still pull this off, but it remains unlikely.

Well, Cook goes for 34, leaving England 86-2.
But that just brings KP to the crease. Can he and Trott see England home?

Trott is the anchor, KP is the aggressor. It's quite possibly the dream combo.
Bell, Woakes, and Prior in reserve. 127 to get from 21 overs.

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
The biggest problem for Australia is that they don't look like that they believe they can beat England. And that's a massive problem. They've just been happy to sit back here, and then you ask yourself - why did Clarke declare? Australia don't believe they can win.

Re: 5th Test - Oval, Weds 21st August
Yes. We are running low on overs for a total batting collapse now. Just 19 ...hard to take a lot of wickets in that time frame once a team is intent on defence.
At the moment of course it is still England looking to get the runs , but that run rate required is creeping up. If KP can't force things - and he is struggling to do do , despite some fine shots - you would think the draw is looming ever closer.

Australia tie Pietersen down for a moment, but only for a brief moment as KP slashes one through midwicket for 4.

Not a chance.. we just go down to normal test scoring rates- 2-3 an over. aus cant bowl us out cheap when it matters.. I would have more chance winning the lottery mate..KP_fan wrote:only if eng continues to bat positively.mystiroakey wrote:and then it fizzles to a draw.KP_fan wrote:aus need 2 quick wickets in the next 15 runs

99 off 17.
If KP bats through , England win. Don't think anyone else could do it though. Unless it was just the last few overs.
