Norwich currently beating Bury 3-0, Ravel Morrison gives Dolphin a boner with a goal on full debut
MK Dons currently leading Sunderland 2-0 meaning Sunderland players shall be starved tomorrow
Peterborough absolutely spanking a strong Reading side as well

Re: Capital One Cup Thread
Of course it does, Newcastle will have better fitness facilities, better fitness coaches, play at a higher sporting level, they will most likely have sport scientists, strict diets etc. etc.
To suggest that lower league teams can cope physically with the top level teams just isn't true. One of the biggest changes in modern football has been fitness levels, the players at the top level are now ridiculously fit.
I know that you can arguably get fit without all that top level fancy equipment and training but it's not the same kind of conditioning.
It was obvious from that game that Morecambe tired and that was the difference, first half they were the better side and Newcastle only grew into the game because more and more gaps started to appear and Morecambe couldn't press as high up the pitch.
90 minutes of activity is a lot, particularly high intensity physical activity. You could recover from it quite quickly if you are fit enough, but during it if you're playing at a high enough level it would be exhausting and I honestly think people underestimate the athleticism that football has. Some players will run literal marathons during the game or several very fast sprints, no easy task.

Looking at the draw again we could have 14 PL sides in the last 16. I can't remember the last time that happened. Could be a real strong competition this year.
Cue the upsets.
Man Utd are a massive 7/1 to win it. Chelsea are 9/2 favourites. Norwich 50/1 and West Ham 33/1. Worth a pound Olly and Chris!

I don't have a lot of knowledge about athletics, but I assume once they get to a certain level they do get a high level of training and fitness equipment so they can jump to the next level, same with football.FreekShow wrote:Just dont tell those African long distance runners Crimey!Crimey wrote:

It really really isn't. We made the quarters of the League Cup last year, and it was the furthest we'd gone for 16 years. Then the Luton game happened and I gave up on the cup dreamFreekShow wrote:Looking at the draw again we could have 14 PL sides in the last 16. I can't remember the last time that happened. Premier League players can use their quality to make lower league players work harder. And by playing at a higher level their fitness is increased by reacting to quality too. I think the most important aspect is having to do less to be better players, which is where the fitness comes in late on.

I think that too many big clubs will actually care this year. And Allardyce's attitude to the cup can be interesting. Good price thoughFreekShow wrote:Looking at the draw again we could have 14 PL sides in the last 16. I can't remember the last time that happened. Could be a real strong competition this year.

Re: Capital One Cup Thread
Can't believe you had an argument over fitness levels. Of course the NUFC boys are in superior physical shape. We were appalling last night and when they did begin to suffer, we threw on Ben arfa and he immediately set two goals up and killed the game. Mixture of fitness & injection of quality from an international footballer was the difference. Move on.

Hardly an argument John!

So after a very poor display, and lucky win against Orient, we get Huddersfield at home.
Got to be happy with a home draw, not an easy tie, should be interesting to see how we approach it (we don't like cups, or being in them for to long).

Cant say iv ever been that mad on the league cup. It is good once you start progressing though. Just lacks the magic of the FA Cup. Wouldnt be too bothered if City lose tonight but on saying that be nice to stick one up the 'Scummers sorry mean the 'Ammers away

BBC commentary says:
"Aston Villa striker Nicklas Helenius has his shorts pulled down to his ankles by Jan Vertonghen in the box, but the referee turns down the penalty appeals. That was a pants decision!"

Re: Capital One Cup Thread
Capital One cup really is a sh*ite competition, really happy we went out in round 1 and don't have to worry about a pointless Tuesday night.
However great comeback from Norwich, good to see Hooper get of the mark. Defoe still banging on the door, i still stand by he is a great player to have in your squad for a side chasing Champions League. City seem to be taking the competition rather seriously. Fulham 2-1 Everton is probably the upset of tonight.

Re: Capital One Cup Thread
I guess it's because were a Championship club and winning it is 95% not going to happen. The full priority for most championship clubs is to try and get to the promise lad of the premiership and nothing should stand in the way. However for Premiership teams who are settled in there, would love a cup run and a day out at Wembley. But for now, happy were out, shame it was to a Mr Winklechops who goes by the name of Justin Edinbrough.

You gotta fancy Liverpool with that line up. Giggs/Jones central midfield? Oh dear.
Hopefully we can turn over Leeds tonight, doubt it though.
