Stop the snobbery and lets have some honesty.
First topic message reminder :
I am new to the forum but have read through a lot of the topics and I have to believe there are a lot of people on here telling porky pies. The amount of slating of top actors and actresses and classic films is unbelievable. Is it like the classic thing where if a film or actor becomes universally popular it is then uncool to like them?
So please feel free to use this post as your confessional.
If you still love the big movie star despite a couple of stinkers lets hear it? If you have that favourite classic movie but are afraid to admit to it scream it out? If you have sang the praises of some obscure foreign arthouse flick to keep up with the cool kids but actually think it is a bag of Poopie then now is the time to let it off your chest?

I checked the internet the other week and it also turns out Elvis is alive. However it also turns out everything onetwo has said about the pyramids, 9/11 and the illuminati is also true so I am not sure what to believe any more.

Love Actually, Four Weddings and Notting Hill are all very likable films. Nothing wrong with that...
Mean Girls is also a brilliant film. Anyone who says they don't like is lying.
(500 Days of) Summer is my favourite rom-com.

I've never been a great fan of ET - I thought Close Encounters was far better. I saw ET when it came out and again at the cinema abut 10 years later in case I'd missed something, but still thought it was just OK.
Being of a certain age, I'm a big fan of certain Brat Pack films - Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club and especially St Elmos Fire. I wouldn't expect anyone under 35 to like them, but they captured the zeitgeist of my salad days.
Other than that my tastes are obviously cooler than Rowley's
Tom Cruise is a brilliant actor, watched Rock of Ages recently and didn't expect him to be able to pull that role of but he was superb.

I like the Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. I thought the scene when she's getting fitted out for her wedding dress with the Grandma was very moving.

I saw all 5 films Bette Midler starred in between 1986 and 1988, and I'm not really a Bette Midler fan. All good films though.

No and No - neither of those had Bette Midler.
All of Me was Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin - brilliant film.
The Judge Reinhold one also had Danny DeVito

Re: Stop the snobbery and lets have some honesty.
I watched a dubbed version of Ong-bak a few years ago and realised it was much better viewed with subtitles. I guess that applies to most foreign language films. As this thread, however, is about honesty rather than snobbery, I have to admit that one of my favourite martial arts adventures is JCVD's Kickboxer. As you already probably know, it's a standard revenge flick with bad acting and poor editing, but for some reason I like it.

As you're all being so humiliatingly honest I'll admit that I have a secret love for a martial arts film. It's Thai and it's called Chocolate, no euphemisms involved.

I've got a soft spot for JCVD movies.
As well as the usual Bloodsport and Kickboxer, I actually enjoy Timecop.

Never been a film snob really outside of not wanting to watch something that's not my thing, certainly never lied about enjoying a 'cool' film to be cool.
Loved the Die Hard series although have not kept up to date with it, early Segal films like out for justice & nico I'll always watch when on tv, Transporter thought was good if you don't take it to seriously. Buggsy Malone & Wizard of Oz are old faves I'll always watch, didn't enjoy the Godfather that much nor did I rate Brando that highly, read the book first & for me was better. Enjoyed American Pyscho but read book after & enjoyed it.

It is a brilliant film, currently occupies position number 6 in the Galted Top 16. Goes to show what a solid script and good acting & directing can accomplish, no need for CGI or Heath Ledger.DAVE667 wrote:Just started watching 12 Angry Men and have to admit I'm enjoying it thoroughly.
