Burns - Beltran; ***FIGHT NIGHT THREAD***
First topic message reminder :
Anyone know much of Beltran? I've got to admit I don't but he's ranked high enough by Ring Mag for me to think this should be a competitive fight.
As much as I like Ricky he's never struck me as a 'world level' type of fighter. Fringe perhaps. A domestic fighter done good for sure but despite one or two decent enough wins I've always had the feeling that he's limited. He got very lucky last time out agianst a fighter with a bit of class (although seemingly no heart).
Anyone shed some light on this one for me? I'm looking forward to it all the same.

112-115 Beltran.
Gave Ricky five rounds (1, 6, 7, 11 & 12)
Courageous from Ricky, but woeful defensively, and outclassed. Beltran had continuous joy with the left hook.

Beltran won his rounds big but Burns scraped through in a fair few for me.

Yep.
Not a Clev style embarrassing schooling, but he's been totally done.

If Beltran doesn't get the nod here then it will be up there with some of Sven Ottkes home town decisions

Beltran dominant. I have a wide UD around the 116-112 or 117-111.

Beltran should win that, looked solid and composed throughout, looked like he had another gear he didn't use, impressed by him and he should get the verdict.

In general I do tend to favour aggression but I can't see a way Ricky won that. Not a meaningful punch all night.

114-113 Beltran but I could easily say 2/3 of those rounds I gave Burns going the other way.

Re: Burns - Beltran; ***FIGHT NIGHT THREAD***
115-113 Beltran is the most generous you could be to Burns, and that's only because he nicked a few rounds. Beltran was the boss throughout.
Probably 116-112 Beltran for me. But, the scores are generous to Burns considering the way he was dominated.

Well Burns clearly won the 1st, 6th, 7th and 12th so how you think it's a schooling is beyond me.

The judge who scored it a draw has no case to answer. Lots of the rounds were close.
Three rounds to Burns, though, WTF?!?

How the hell did the US judge have Burns ahead by 3 and he got knocked down which is a 10-8 round!!!

And Burns should have at least been warned for his constant holding. Home town ref really helped him here.

To me it was at least 3 rounds to Beltran and don't see any way burns gets close to a draw, disgraceful decision, but good luck to him, he didn't make the call just fought the fight.

farsical result. beltran with ease, dominated in my opinion. burns is poor, found out in the last fight and this one, everyone knows it, even hearn. get a fight outside scotland and he's finished. not a worthy world champ at all.

Yeh mate, in genuinely in shock. Its a disgrace how some guy can boss the whole fight, knock him down and still draw. Its unreal. Not being funny but Ricky Burns is not as good as we thought. He was schooled tonight and Beltran got robbed. Its literally as simple as that.

Gad it 114-113 Beltran myself. Can't argue with draw, nor the card in favour of Beltran but the one in favour of Burns was quite clearly disgraceful.

Re: Burns - Beltran; ***FIGHT NIGHT THREAD***
I'm not sure some people quite understand the 10 point must system. Who appears to be dominating overall can be countered by the round by round scoring.
I had Burns winning the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 11th and 12th with the 2nd and 3rd being very close, Beltran won the 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th more clearly than Burns did any of his but that isn't taken into account.

Schooled? A schooling is dominance from the start to finish which this wasn't, I think Beltran won but Burns had his moments.mobilemaster8 wrote:Yeh mate, in genuinely in shock. And basically stuff like this screws over UK boxing as no decent fighter will want to come here due to reputation for hometown decisions
