There's Only One Foxy
I NEED TO CLEAR SOMETHING UP RIGHT NOW.
There is only one Foxy. He is All Blacks legend Grant Fox.
The guy has earned the moniker:
Won a World Cup
Played over 50 tests for the All Blacks
Pioneered the role of the modern goal kicker
Won everything with his province
Reguarly irritated the hell out of Australia
Coached his province
Commentates on the game
Picked up an MBE for it
Is actually called Fox.
This come-lately welsh chappy can find another casual handle.
Step off, Wales. You tried to steal our blackness and now you're trying to steal our foxiness.
It looked ridiculous last time and it looks ridiculous this time.

Pppfffftttt, A nickname being your first or last name with an 'o' or 'y' at the end lacks all originality.
Anyway you have to feel sorry for Jonathan Davies, he can go by Jonathan Davies because of the Ex-fly half and now commentator already being a star with that name. He can't go by John Davies because of the legend that was John Daviest the Scarlets, Llanelli and Neath (And the mighty Crymych RFC) prop. So he was left with Foxy, after the pub he grew up in, and now he is being told he can't go by that. Poor sod.

I guess he could rip of Randy Orton from WWE (years ago, when I still semi watched it) and become the 'Legend Killer'.jimmyinthewell68 wrote:New nick name how about god or bod2

Re: There's Only One Foxy
Can't have been all that good if you only got a semi.
Personally, a player reaches legendary status when his name is used to address him. Personally if a player has a nickname, it's usually to hide a glaring weakness or two.
If you go to a game and you hear colourful language before a player's surname, you know that player is doing everything right.

Re: There's Only One Foxy
In that case I think there must be a hell of a lot of top quality players around the welsh regions, as quite often when the teams come out there are a lot of fans who say "what the <colourful language> is that <colourful language> doing in the starting line up, even I am better than <colourful language> <name>"kiakahaaotearoa wrote:If you go to a game and you hear colourful language before a player's surname, you know that player is doing everything right.

Re: There's Only One Foxy
You make a very good point.
Let's just say the top legends of the game don't tend to have nicknames. Their name is legendary enough. Down Under, any long name tends to get lopped off and a vowel put in front of it. Two syllables generally is the maximum. Some of those Bok names would be vanny, Oozo, Villy.

I think he is lucky Ireland play Wales in Ireland and not in the MS, as he would have been taunted to hell by the Valley's Commandos otherwise.fa0019 wrote:I like it.. Re: There's Only One Foxy
What is it with Antipodeans and dullard nicknames? A nickname isn't just a one-word alteration of someone's surname, unless you have the imagination of a cabbage!

Re: There's Only One Foxy
Those aren't nicknames Hood. That's how we speak, particularly in Australia. I'm gonna put a cool hundy on the footy. I just need to go to the petty to fill up the car and I'll meet you this arvo. All under three syllables. We keep things simple!
I don't know who came up with McCheat but it doesn't rhyme or have any imagination. McWhore would be more appropriate as you want your team to ruck him up good.

I NEED TO CLEAR SOMETHING UP RIGHT NOW.
There is only one Foxy. He is Radio Wyvern legend (Dr) Neil Fox.
The guy has earned the moniker:
- Started at Free Radio Herefordshire & Worcestershire, playing shows from 1984-86
- Pioneered the use of the prefix 'Dr' before a DJ's name
- Presented the Sunday-afternoon Network Chart Show
- Holds nine Sony awards and was awarded the Gold award for lifetime achievement in 2009, as well as having been voted to claim the "Best Disc Jockey" award from the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party multiple times.
- Regularly irritated the hell out of everyone
- Is actually called Fox
This come-lately Kiwi chappy can find another casual handle.
Step off, New Zealand. You tried to steal our Tolkien and now you're trying to steal our foxiness.
It looked ridiculous last time and it looks ridiculous this time.
P.S. - Ha, fair enough kia

Re: There's Only One Foxy
So you criticise us but do the same thing yourselves!
Foxy started as an AB in 1985 but he started playing for Auckland in 1982 so he predates Bachman Turner Overdrive. I'm sure Dr Fox did a lot of work for charity and didn't like to talk about it but you're scraping the barrell here mate and you know it.

Re: There's Only One Foxy
Ha, damnit!! I didn't really think that one through did I?! Though I'd say this, the fact that 'Dr Foxy's' name was self-generated, and self-promoted, and that he is generally loathed by most people here is no coincidence.kiakahaaotearoa wrote: So you criticise us but do the same thing yourselves!

Also, he put a 'Dr' in his name - so it isn't a simple letter change. Very original, very imaginative...very annoying.

Don't make me bring out the big guns - The Fox family, purveyors of Fox biscuits. They pre-date this rugby chancer by about 100 years.kiakahaaotearoa wrote:No it's certainly is not.

Yes, yes it is. Well, probably as much as 'I'm gonna put a cool hundy on the footy. I just need to go to the petty to fill up the car and I'll meet you this arvo' is part of Oz vernacular.
