The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Trebanog, the home village of Cliff Morgan.
So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy the 2013-14 rugby season.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the legendary
Cliff Morgan, Dorothy Squires & Esme Coles, Jason Tovey, Aaron Smith and Monterey Jack.

Story regs? Had one of the best weekends ever, in Cymru. It all just flowed. I love it when that happens.
Huge thanks to me little Welsh daughter for putting me up, putting up with me, and minding me. Love you M. X.
And meeting up with De Rev, Lucky, Prop and the Master that is Penfron, paving the way to make it all easier for an aul man on tour. He rocks that fella... It just... well... Im a lucky man having friends like ye in my life.
As for Hugs on tour with me. Love it. Mad feicer, he lights it all up with his charm. My cup is full.
Diolch, gan fy nghalon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p48f_Nmv0Ic
P.S. Just watching Johnny Sexton playing in Racing colours. That's weird enough on its own, but seeing ROG giving him his kicking-tee is just a complete head-feic.
Another penalty nailed. Thats my boy.

So jealous hearing about your weekend - and so glad to hear that you had a great time. xx This RM v ASM is not a great match. Bit of an arm wrestle. C'mon RM! (well, they do play in celeste y blanco)

Nalaga & Shivivatu. Serious gas, skill and power there. Must be scary having those two coming at you.
Whoops... just as I spoke. Yellow for Nalaga for kneeing.

Looked to me that ASM were all over this, but it has just become a typical French style game. No ambition, no creativity, just an arm wrestle. Yawn.

Battered.
Another Euro rugby weekend with good friends, and great hosts.
The hotel owner drove us into town on Friday evening; a barman in town drove us back after midnight. Neither wanted paying.
The Italians add nothing to Euro rugby......yeah right ; I know it's the Amlin, but my best away trips have been in this comp.

Morning!
Glad everyone enjoyed their Heino weekends. I've got a couple of days off now, but I'm doing overtime this weekend on both days.

Cari, does that mean you won't be able to see any of the HC action?
My upstairs neighbours are away on holiday and an air lock has developed in their central heating. Bl**dy banging noise every morning and evening is very annoying!

Depends. I'm only doing four hour shifts in the middle of each day (we're testing new systems or something...) so I may catch evening coverage. You have my sympathy with the noise from your neighbours' place. I've had my share of noise from the neighbours...
Just seen Tommy's try. Absolutely gorgeous...the try I mean. Perfectly executed. He's a top finisher all right, but kudos to Wee Paddy for the cross kick.

Morning!!
Indeed Penfro. I had a great time Saturday....despite the result. Am knackered now though. It's my last day of freedom today and then I'm in work until a week Saturday! Ah well, the money will help as I'm still aiming to go to Belfast in December to seeTommy The P Family
I've also been working on myself. I've lost just under half a stone in three weeks. Jebus, it's been hard though. I'm surprised I lost any weight this week given Saturday's shenanigans, but at least I know I'm going in the right direction. Have made some new pals at the gym too which is a bonus.

Blimey, quiet in here!
Well done Cari Your discipline is rather better than mine, I have to confess I haven't been for a run in almost 4 weeks! Time to get my butt in gear, I need it now. Did do some major walking in Madeira though so that redeems me slightly. I'm going to take a leaf out of your book lass and get back on track. Or on pavements at least

Yup, it is quiet in here. Looking forward to Ealing v Cross Keys on Sat. Plus Wasps v Bayonne on TV tomorrow. I'm not going as it's a pain in the 'arris getting back from Wycombe that late.
More to do with the bandits in my local high street when I get back.

I gather it's £20 to watch Ealing v Keys? That's a top end Dragons ticket almost. Mad, if true.

Morning, folks. I see the Blues have sacked their defence coach with immediate effect. I'm not sure how wise that is when they play Toulon on the weekend. What can the new (as-yet unnamed) coach possibly do with them in the space of a day or two that won't leave them confused and uncertain in defence?
Anyhoo, it's not my problem.

Ha!
Was just reading about Morgan Parra getting a ban for punching someone.
Was thinking it was a bit odd for someone his size to take on a Backrow.
Then read the rest!

Strange that the incident was 4 weeks ago.

Indeed!
What is it about scrum halves? They are such annoying wee twerps as a general rule.
Parra, Dawson, Healey.
Then you get someone like our Ruan who is the opposite.

That's low, punching someone who isn't in a position to defend himself, let alone retaliate.

It would be much shorter to list the "exceptions"!
I wonder if that harks back to the old days when teachers would decide which position a boy played purely on their size/personality?
Do annoying wee twerps actually make better scrumhalves than the quiet lads or is it just that that is where they are put turning it into a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
A certain amount of self-confidence must be necessary to be successful as a scrummie, given the amount of split second decision making which impacts on the whole team. The question is -is 'twerpiness' also a sine qua non? Given your Ruan Pienaars, Agustin Pichots etc, answer seems to be no. May be down to 'wee man' syndrome - make up for lack of inches with agression. This, of course, does not explain Mike Phillips!

Rev - £20 is about standard for The Championship give or take a £ or two. But given the limited covered areas* at Ealing it is probably a wee bit steep. It's £10 for social members like me.Risca Rev wrote:I gather it's £20 to watch Ealing v Keys? That's a top end Dragons ticket almost. Mad, if true.
*NB - they have erected a new stand at the western end of the ground.

Wasps v Bayonne. I'm not normally one to criticise refs, but Fitzgibbon is allowing not straight line outs and forward passes from Bayonne.

First half was a bit of a slugfest, Hound, but Wasps were much cannier in the second half. A good win in the end. What do you expect from the two Grenoble games?

Hi pp. Just got in - Grenoble could be a tougher task, but they rolled over against Bayonne last weekend. Hopefully we can get a win there in early Dec and demolish them at our place.

I just compare it to the equivalent Hound and it's half price to watch the Keys. To Ealing fans it's probably the norm, but to us poor valley types, it's double whack.

The Cross Keys team is:-
15. Rhys Jones
14. Luke Williams
13. Leon Andrews (c)
12. Tyler Morgan (Dragons academy)
11. James Cordy-Redden
10. Steffan Jones (Dragons)
9. Rhys Dyer
1. Aaron Coundley (Dragons)
2. Gerwyn Price (Pro playing experience with Glasgow last season)
3. Nathan Buck (Dragons)
4. Danny Hodge
5. Tom Lampard
6. Ieuan Jones (Dragons)
7. Scott Matthews (Dragons Academy)
8. Adam Powell
Replacements: Richard Cornock, Darren Hughes, Anthony Lott, Ollie Hodge, Ryan James, Angus O'Brien, Nathan Williams.
Aside from the academy lads (who are highly rated) and the Dragons players who have stepped down (though I think Steff, Buck and Coundley will feature for them a fair bit this season), I would rate Leon Andrews as a good player (quite a silky centre), Dan Hodge is a bit of a bruiser lock (who is partial to the odd yellow) and Adam Powell has been touted as somebody the Dragons should look at.

Don't mean to be racist an ting, but I'm loving watching Sarries lose to Toulouse. They may win this one, in the short-term, but I just don't like them. They are bad news. There will be karma-tears to be shed.

Gibson - no worries. There are other teams that hire more so called mercenaries than Sarries.
Most of the AP fans don't have much time for them. Talking to people on trains travelling to games, and in pubs, they are not what we would want our own clubs to be.
They are winning though - is that all that matters?

There were a lot of very happy 'neutral' fans on twitter after Saracens lost last night. Myself included I must admit...
I wasn't that bothered then they played that awful 'Stand Up for the Saracens' dirge in a stoppage of play with a few minutes to go and that reminded me why I dislike them so intensely.
