The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Trebanog, the home village of Cliff Morgan.
So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy the 2013-14 rugby season.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the legendary
Cliff Morgan, Dorothy Squires & Esme Coles, Jason Tovey, Aaron Smith and Monterey Jack.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
I guess there isn't a ref about much on here anymore, but everybody is raving about Cian Healy dropping Richie McCaw, but is it a penalty for leading with your arm like that? I've been pinged for it before, so just curious.
Hard lines Ireland. Had a feeling when I left following it at 22-7 (I think), I'd be waking up to an NZ win though.

Any points in the second half would have done it, I think. But you have to give them credit, the All Blacks upped their game. Sexton's missed penalty really was crucial.
I hope we get an 'Australia' performance when we go to Dublin in the Six Nations!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
Morning all.
Still can't believe yesterday.
On a lighter note though...on my way to school this morning I had an...interesting experience. Was just approaching my right turn off the main road into the quiet residential street when a car got to the end of that street wanting to turn right into the main road. Just as I turned in the woman driving the waiting car put her face up close to the window and snarled,
"You F@@*@%* B@£^@!!!"
I was totally shocked, not only by the attitude of the driver but also because she was an elderly woman! I should add that I would have been being extremely kind to have stopped to let her out. I am actually very keen to keep the traffic flowing and would always let folk out if possible but the timing of our respective arrivals at the junction did not make that a sensible option. She really had no cause to be annoyed at all never mind scream obsenities! Some people eh?
Also,
What's this about?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25034598
This guy is 23 and he is moaning about walking almost 11 miles in 10 hours?? You may remember me having to walk pretty much that distance in about 4-5 hours at an athletics event in the summer (in scorching heat I might add). He is a lot younger than me and he is getting paid!
Is that really something to complain about?

You're not obliged to let someone out in those circumstances, MrsP. I make a similar right turn off a main road on my way home from work and if there's someone waiting to come out onto the main road, sometimes I let them out, sometimes I don't. I've never been given any abuse - none that I've noticed, anyway!

I agree Lucky. I would actually make an effort to let people out if it is possible and would usually apologise if I have missed an opportunity to do so but this morning really was not even one of those times. if she had got to the junction a few seconds earlier I would have probably let her out but I was too far over by the time she arrived so it was better to get out of her way. Definately a bizzare response.

If she reacts like that to such a minor thing, I'd hate to see what she does when she's actually wronged!
Maybe she was just raging against the dying of the light.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
You did the right thing, Mrs P. She has to wait.
It's all about capturing their attention, eye contact and giving the signal for them to proceed. But if you're there before them... and they are still approaching the intersection... you have every right to do what you did.
I'll always let someone through when the situation arises - but besides that it really annoys me when the other driver takes things for granted or doesn't give way thinking they can just drive through an intersection or roundabout without taking the foot off the pedal.
I have the opposite too. This bloke was trying to turn into a long line of cars on a very busy road which was travelling at a snail's pace. Turning left into slowly moving traffic with few gaps, lots of big trucks, buses and taxis whizzing up the inside left hand lane. I had enough room to let this guy in... but would you believe... I couldn't get the bloke to see my signal. He had plenty of opportunity but was worried about cutting across the bus/taxi lane and was looking back there instead of looking for a 'wave through' from me.
That was a dangerous situation. If he had acknowledged the signal and then proceeded to merge into the lane in front of me... I would have been closest to any potential collision. So I thought I'd better quickly withdraw the offer... and ignore him until the traffic moved forward and I could get out of his dilemma.

I think Barrett did the same to one of the Irish backs in the 2nd half, Rev. I certainly thought in both cases the attacker led with their forearms. The worst player for that is Hala'ufia - yellow (and red) card waiting to happen.Risca Rev wrote:I guess there isn't a ref about much on here anymore, but everybody is raving about Cian Healy dropping Richie McCaw, but is it a penalty for leading with your arm like that? Well that was another interesting morning. P5 has been limping for a couple of days. We weren't sure if she just fancied a go with her sister's crutches but it has persisted so we tookher off to get it looked at today.
After X-rays and scans they decided she needs a week of Bed rest!!!!!
You have got to be kidding me???
I'd like to see them try!
Anyone have a long rope and a straight jacket I could borrow?

Dubai, eh? It's alright for some!
MrsP, could you try bribery? Stay in bed for a week and there'll be a reward? Either that, or put those spike strips the police use all around the bed.

One of the kids at school told me that if you are naughty you get onions instead of presents. He says he know's this because it happened to his sister!

I'd never heard of onions as the alternative before. Ashes/cinders/coal are the ones I have come across.
He did say his Dad ate the onions afterwards!
I suspect she got some pressies too. At least I hope she did!

Thought so, ta. Didn't see the Barrett one as I didn't watch it, but obviously there's photos of Healy everywhere online.Hound of Harrow wrote:I think Barrett did the same to one of the Irish backs in the 2nd half, Rev. Happy Birthday, El Lucko.
Have a great day, mate.
Jammed my finger in the car boot today. Yeeooooww!!!
You know when you get that instant, intense pain... and you realise there's nothing you can do about it? I was too scared to even look at it at first but luckily it turned out OK. I got some ice on it quickly and only one side looks bruised... no break but the tip of my right index finger looks 'fatter'.
About 10 hours later... I'm giving it a work-out on the keyboard. Nice, low-level dull pain... thanks to a few panadeine.

Guten abend, mssieur dames,ca gaz? International rugby is over, time to risk putting the head outside again and benefit from club antics, with the promise ofan equitable pan European competition in 2 years time, salivating already.
Anyway, I was thinking of postong s few comments concerning rugby seen from non anglophone countries as I used to do when 606 began all those years back. Unfortunately they were ignored because of therimordal imortance of non mainland European ruugby, which rapidly secluded itself tothe largest island on the weastern European seaboard. It would be a pleasure to talk about what
I see and hear, but if the response remains that of dissinterest, then I won' t continue here and chat elsewhere.

You can go back and edit posts, Chef.
Morning all, just popping in for a quick and to say thanks for my birthday 'wishes'. I feel neither older nor wiser, which is about right
I don't have the heart to read yesterday's match threads yet. I can predict what most of the comments will be. From (some) Welsh posters, the ref will be blamed; Rhys Priestland will be blamed; and if any credit is given to the Wallabies, who were the better side throughout, it will be of the most grudging variety. From (some) non-Welsh posters, there'll be a fair amount of gloating and mocking, and it'll be perfectly understandable and justified. When a side beats you repeatedly, and yet you keep maintaining you're as good as / better than them, when results clearly suggest otherwise, you deserve everything coming your way when, surprise surprise, they beat you again. I hope this time the players and coaches will realise that actions speak louder than words and to keep their groundless notions of superiority to themselves, but I don't expect to see any change. It would have been better if they'd put a proper score on us, and then we might actually admit that - shock, horror - the best team won.
Anyway, time for . And a Bundaberg for Breaker.

Thanks Lucky. (you're gonna get fat!)
It is a bit of a relief. Some goods signs for us but still heaps of silly errors and penalties given away.
I haven't had a Bundy since about 1987... since my feet stuck to the floor of the bar but I fully comprehend your kind sentiments.
I read what you wrote about Wales on the other thread. I still think you are in a good spot if certain changes are made as you suggest.
There's lots of firepower there... just that it wasn't firing on all cylinders last night and I think they were caught on the hop.

I had a bad feeling about yesterday's match. So much talk from the Welsh camp - but we weren't playing the Wallabies who we ran close last summer, we were playing a side that any sensible person could see were a much better outfit, winning games and playing with confidence. I honestly think a good tuning would have served us better than losing by 4. If only to shut us up!

The fact that we still could have lost in the dying minutes was typical in many ways of the "bad old Wallabies" of the past year or two.
I couldn't believe we were still in that situation - I was worried Barnes might do so something left field again and that would be it.

You should have been out of sight, really. Maybe you thought the game was won and eased off. Turned out the game was won!
We were soundly beaten at the breakdown. The only tangible way Warburton leads is by example, and if he isn't setting a good example... We need a proper, vocal, bossy captain. Plus, we need Tipuric in the side. He's clearly the better player.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
Hey CF, what's new? Good win for the Hammers!
Goodish vibe here for the next Test but we don't want to get too carried away with all the lead-up talk. I reckon this one will be a lot closer. The wicket should be good for batting a bit like the MCG drop-in pitch few years back.
