The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Trebanog, the home village of Cliff Morgan.
So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy the 2013-14 rugby season.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the legendary
Cliff Morgan, Dorothy Squires & Esme Coles, Jason Tovey, Aaron Smith and Monterey Jack.

Thanks, MrsP!
Breaker, the wicket at the Gabba was good for batting, but it didn't seem to make any difference for the English batsmen...

During a County Championship game, Glamorgan quick bowler Greg Thomas had beaten Somerset star Viv Richards's bat a couple of times and informed the legendary West Indies ace: "It's red, round and weighs about five ounces, in case you were wondering."
Richards smashed the next ball out of the ground, into a river - and piped up: "Greg, you know what it looks like. Now go and find it."

Love it!

Morning Lucky.
Some good ones there.
Press here are trying to make a big story of KP and Broad hanging out in some Adelaide bar until the wee hours... and Root telling Johnson to "bring it on". It was quoted all out of context though - he was just generally saying that it was "the nature of Test cricket, nothing new... so bring it on" but Johnson's name had been mentioned in a previous sentence.
Nathan Lyon (ex-groundsman at the AO) on the other hand was telling the cameras "...I couldn't care less what the England cricket team is getting up to..." It was the look on his face which seemed funny to me. He's a very relaxed and laid back character.

There seems to be a bit of nastiness to this series. I quite like it.

It's all our fault. Some of the Aussie team are acting like proverbial school bullies.
That's not the way to treat guests in the playground.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. We dished it out in the summer, now the boot's on the other foot.

Yeah, I guess you're right.
I sort of turned a blind eye to all of that (dishing out and sledging)... it's pretty easy to do that being so far away. It's all over the sports news - all the time - here though. It's all made out to be like some on-going real-life TV drama. It's like the calm before the storm before the next episode. No doubt there will be more controversies as the Series unfolds.
ABC radio is better.
I have fond memories of "... and Boycott plays it to short cover.............................................................and again.... there's no run" whilst getting in and out of the pool on really hot days.
There was that rustling sound of the crowd constantly in the background without all the shouting and screaming and on-line stuff you see and hear on the TV coverage these days.

Alec Stewart's article is actually really good. Sledging is nothing new, and if a player can't handle a bit of banter, he's not made for Test cricket. I do think too much has been made of it recently.
I love listening to TMS. My dad always had the telly on mute and TMS on the radio, even though there was a slight delay between the two.

Good Evening Lurkers
Hope everyone's well and looking forward to the festive season. I haven't been up to much. Working hard and trying to get organised.
Enjoyed the rugby internationals - despite results. I honestly didn't think Wales would win last weekend though. I know that sounds bad like I don't have faith in them or something, but there's something about Oz and Wales...anyway, well done Linebreaker - wins in both codes too. Jammy.
In other news, Tommy is injured AGAIN! 4-6 weeks out they reckon. I swear I'm a jinx. I've got a long weekend this week and I was originally going to go to Ravenhill to their Heino fixture but had to change plans. Utter cack though. T's had such a poor run of injuries.

We're back from Dubai!! Damn good trip - as ever, good company good food, good weather, great tournament and shoite, expensive beer
I'm detoxing on London Pride in Ealing.
We saw the Wales v Aus game (9pm there). Well played Aussie - they deserved the win.
And Wasps won at the weekend, plus Ealing got their first win of the season at Jersey.
Howya all?

Glad you had a good time Hound, sounds like great fun... with the exception of the beer! Must go one year, it's on my (rather long) list.
Some good news for me after a long and slightly pants day at work. An old friend who is fighting breast cancer has today been told the surgery was successful and 'got' the cancer. She still has to have some chemo followed by herceptin but things are looking rather more rosy than they did. I am so pleased, and relieved, and thankful. And also knackered; an early night and we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
Just hearing the news of the loss of Nelson Mandela. It's been coming for a while, but its still a moment of some significance. Human beings like him come around so very rarely.
Seeing some of the politicians mouthing hypocritical tributes to him who clearly have learned nothing from how he lived his life makes me sad/angry. I wish we used this moment to reflect on how we could each be more like him in terms of compassion, forgiveness and perseverance.

Mandela is a great loss to the world - a great statesmen and leader in a world increasingly led by charlatans, corporate puppets, egomaniacs, cowards and war mongers.
I'll always remember the scenes from the 1995 RWC - though Matt Damon has ruined them somewhat...

It was Mandela's capacity for forgiveness, and his wisdom in realising that white South Africans were vital to the success of the new South Africa, are what stand out for me (I hate it when people say 'stand out' like that, but I can't think of another way of saying it). He wasn't a saint, and I'm afraid that's the way he'll be portrayed in the media over the next few days, but as you say Notch, all statesmen and world leaders would do better to follow the example he set rather than doff the cap and continue without learning a thing.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Trebanog
Given who we are playing (from the team they've put out) and the fact they are as good as out already, I am hoping for a good win tonight. We could really do with a BP, as then we only need to beat Bath by more than they beat us to top the group (given that I think Bath will get five points twice v Mogliano and five at home to Bordeaux).Luckless Pedestrian wrote:In other news, the Dragons play Bordeaux tonight, and Bordeaux have a player called Jefferson Poirot.
Should be a good evening. Pleased to see Ash Smith and Leach in the centres, for a bit of variety instead of two less subtle players like Leach and Dixon/Wardle. Strange to see Gustafson back in the number one jersey.

It is strange, but hopefully it's the end of the experiment of playing him at hooker.
I know nothing about Bordeaux as a team, so I really don't know what to expect from them. That's not a bad thing I suppose.

It'll be a tough ask for us to win in Bordeaux with their pack (whatever they put out). But I hope we do win on Thursday, as the Bath game will be some night down Dave with all to play for.
But good win tonight. Some lovely tries. Hopefully there'll be some decent highlights somewhere, as some of the angles and offloads were nice.

Great result for the Dragons
Decent enough evening for the Regions with the Os picking up a lbp away (although they're probably stuffed for any q/f place), and the Pinks beating the Weege, despite most Glasgow fans reckoning on a 10+ win.

It was their b team tonight by the sounds.
Ospreys were as good as out in round one when they lost at home. I expect they'll turn Castres over next week at home though.
Blouse was a bit of a shock, but fair play to them.

Wow one of the greatest weekends in Irish rugby history MrsP.
That performance against NZ seems to be turning point - to be honest after the Australia game I felt not only like not watching another game again but also leaving the country.
What a difference a few weeks make!

Also, I have a query about 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree', specifically this part of the lyric:
Voices singing 'let's be jolly,
Deck the halls with boughs of holly'
'Deck the halls', fair enough; but I've never heard anyone singing 'let's be jolly', at Christmastime or any other time. Is there a song called 'Let's be Jolly' that I've missed all these years? Is it any good?

Not yet, Lucky, but I will do it this year because my aunt is coming to stay. Last year I said to Mr Puma, "Not sure I can be @rsed this year", thinking he would be positive and galvanise me into dragging out the baubles, but he just said, "Don't see the point just for us (you)" - last of the great romantics! So I didn't bother and kind of regretted it.

"Voices singing.
