Should Floyd try to bag Martinez next ????????
First topic message reminder :
Should he beat Canelo...........Surely the smart move is to move in on the seriously declining but still hugely respected Martinez....Who one has to genuinely put on any top list......despite recent events..
Martinez is only two inches taller than Floyd so logistically it is a boxing match rather than a huge middle mauling him.......
Martinez is in decline and would almost certainly take a hugely profitable fight at an agreed weight. (157)........No doubts about that......
Be a huge win and even more legacy cementing..........
Surely Martinez in his current condition is the smart move ??.......

Re: Should Floyd try to bag Martinez next ????????
It would only make sense if it was at the middleweight limit (winning the linear middleweight crown would be legacy enhancing for Floyd).
He'd almost certainly declare it a one fight and done deal, though, as there's no way he'd contemplate taking on Golovkin (which is fair enough).
Why take a risk against Martinez, though? He'll almost certainly take on Garcia or Matthysse next and he'll have an eye on how far Pacquiao's slipped. If Pacquiao looks damaged goods against Rios, expect Floyd to do a U-turn on that one (which would still make a packet).

Martinez could be a good fight for Floyd next if at 154 and no CW. That said, Martinez is shot. Very evident. Personally, I would like to see Floyd in with some more undefeated fighters. Canelo will be what, his 3rd in his entire career? Keith Thurman at 147, once he has more experience. Martinez maybe. Possibly Mattysse if he goes up and looks decent at 147 (in my mind he is undefeated)

IF... and that's a big IF Floyd beats Canelo I'd like to see him try and unify the middleweight division at 160lb over the next 2 years. If he beat matthyse/ garcia/ pacman nobody would be that shocked as he would be expected to win those fights. Unifying the middleweight division would go beyond what people expected of Floyd and give him a serious tilt at the greatest of all time imo.

Middleweight will never ever happen. He wont even be over 150 come fight night. He would be tiny at 160lambertm100 wrote:IF... and that's a big IF Floyd beats Canelo I'd like to see him try and unify the middleweight division at 160lb over the next 2 years.
