The truth is most quarterbacks are going to have a tough time against the Seahawks. In saying that after reading some of the comments on the "other" forum about how Kaepernick was going to change the game of football and how it was a defining moment in the history of the position etc., etc., you could be forgiven for expecting Kaepernick to completely annihilate Seattle.Colan (niner) wrote:I hope people stop using this game as some sort of indictment on Kap.

Is Todd Haley the worst OC in football?
Alex Smith has had more rushing yards in the first two weeks than the Steelers.
That offence has been a shambles since he got the job.

Jacksonville has scored 11 points, they've allowed 11 sacks and they don't have a single run of 11+ yards.
Poor Teddy Bridgewater
Considering the offense is completely unable to sustain drives they must firstly be knackered and to have only let 47 points on the board they've done well.
I think one stat was that in week 1 against the Chiefs the Jags only got the ball into opposition territory twice. Twice.

I'm just not a fan of players going mental AFTER they see a guy laid out and not moving, would feel same way if a 49ers player did it. Watch Whitner after the Pierre Thomas in playoff, that's the way to act. I didn't like Goldson when he did it either. Plus you probably didn't even watch gamecherriesfna wrote:It's not dirtyColan (niner) wrote:, I see too many dirty tactic from them every game though, happened last year with Manningham and agian a few times last night, don't revel at clear injuries caused by dirty plays, its bs. When you can trade a 1yo(in NFL terms) good 1st-round RB for 1 mid 1st round draft pick, you should. It makes complete sense.

Considering good running backs are found in the middle rounds every year, is trading a first rounder for a RB with injury concerns really a smart idea? No matter how much potential he has

Anyone any idea on thrbidds on luck having more superbow rings than peyton by the time hes done.
Luck, richardson, hilton, fleener, allen, whalen & ballard next year thats a stacked lineup.
My only worry the cap in a few years. Everyone remembers pollian not being able to spend money as manning ate the cap but all those guys are gonna be wanting deals around the same time and in the case of luck a very big deal.

He hasn't had a very good QB to work with either, so he could produce in Indy where people have to consider Luck throwing the ball too.
I don't know if Indy have given too much for him, we'll see in time. But I know Cleveland made a dumb move to trade up for him.

Indy have a worse OL than Cleveland though.
If you're paying that much for a RB these days, he better be up there with AD.

Yep, Browns at least have Joe Thomas and Alex Mack, arguably top 3 guys at their positions on the O Line, Colts have no one of that calibre.
One positive might be the arm of Luck opening up throwing lanes, but I still think Indy could have used that pick on a top defensive player next year and picked up a 2nd or 3rd round RB who could be just as successful

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread IV
Its doesn't matter bout oline. Teams playing Cleveland only had to stack the box and give safety help over the top on gordons side to stifle their offence.
Luck will have a pass and a run play each time and will call one or the other when hr sees the defence.
If teams stack he'll shred them in the air if they drop TR will grind it out.
Is a 1st rounder too much for him possibly.
But if Thornton works out at guard then we are a centre away from a decent oline.
On the defence we need pass rush but werner may work out and if not there's nothing stopping us moving into bottom of first for someone like van noy

The whole we have a QB didn't work out with Peyton under center.
Mark Ingram has been garbage for the Saints
Patriots finally have something resembling a run game.
Doesn't work that way a fair bit.
And yes OL matters a hell of a lot.

Looks like they are signing Willis McGahee, not sure how much he has left in the tank though as a guy off the street.
Probably doesn't matter, the Browns are clearly tanking for Bridgewater or whichever QB is the next big hope for the draft next year

I wouldn't take Richardson's stats in Cleveland as gospel, say what you want, but people could stack the box against Cleveland, and stop him running the ball and forcing Weeden to throw which is better for them.
I get what the Browns are doing, but for me I'd have kept Richardson. You're gonna be a high pick next year anyways, and lets face it they ain't beating the Jags to the #1 pick.
The fans might as well not turn up for the rest of the season now!!

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread IV
Here's a good post on I saw on NFLUK
It could go either wayWell, the Browns now have the ammo to trade up for that franchise QB they so desperately need in the 2014 draft. Problem is they've been here before. In the 2012 draft they were armed with the 4th and 22nd overall picks with the Rams shopping the rights to RG3 just two spots higher.
Remember the Julio Jones trade to Atlanta two years ago when the Browns held the 6th overall pick?
The results are in for that deal.
For Jones, perhaps a top 5 WR in the NFL today, Atlanta sent a 1st round (27th overall), 2nd round (59th) and fourth round (124th) picks in the 2011 draft, and 1st (22nd overall) and 4th (118) round picks in the 2012 draft to Cleveland.
Cleveland received:
2011:
27th - Traded with a 3rd round (70th overall) pick for the 21st pick - DT Phil Taylor.
59th - Greg Little - multiple drops and traffic violations. Benched for Davone Bess.
124 - Owen Marecic - cut a year later and signed this week with the 49ers).
2012:
22nd - Brandon Weeden
118th - Traded to Minnesota as part of the Trent Richardson deal.
It's not a stretch to envision a situation in Cleveland where RG3 is throwing to Julio Jones or just staying pat in 2012 and taking Ryan Tannehill and Doug Martin without the need to trade any other picks.
Cleveland have basically turned the 6th and 4th overall picks in the last two years into Phil Taylor and the Colts 2014 1st round pick (likely to be in the mid teens to early 20s range).

In any case, teams aren't selling out to stop Christian Ponder or Mike Vick. Nobody was worried about Matt Cassel beating them last season. MJD never had a high flying pass attack to open up the ground game when he was healthy. Spiller in Buffalo, Martin in Tampa etc.
Trent Richardson is what he is, a solid dependable back, will drag defenders down with him, but doesnt really make players miss or have great burst. Also some fairly significant injury worries. If thats worth a first round pick in todays NFL then by all means.

Realising I'm a little late with this but I've only just spotted it..... Cleveland have traded Trent Richardson away??? I did not see that one coming.
Risky one for the Colts though - spending a 1st round pick on an RB that appears to be made of glass might not be the smartest move long term but as always with these trades, time will only tell.

GSC also makes a really good point about how the very good RBs are still able to be very effective despite having no passing game to speak of to open things up for them. Can I also add Clinton Portis to that list who was outstanding in Washington with a string of second and third rate QBs and hardly a decent WR outside of Santana Moss to speak of playing alongside him. He's a case study though in how the punishment that type of physical RB takes eventually wears them down before their time.

It would be simple to fix. Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.

I did see a mock draft with the Eagles taking Johnny Manziel.
It also had the Jaguars taking Teddy Bridgewater, Browns taking Tajh Boyd and AJ McCarron to the Patriots (updated since and now he's down for the Buccaneers).
