I forgot to say I watched Cowboys and Aliens. Forgettable probably a decent description TBH - decent enough, but nothing special. A bit too serious for its genre. 6ish.

Just watched Hummingbird with Jason Statham. Its a drama with some very good action scenes. Wasnt expecting much but have to say was one of the best films ive seen recently(not hard). The story was a little bit 'meh' but everything else spot on.

Crossing Over with Harrison Ford. 7/10

Interesting stories about immigration into the US illegally all coming together from different angles. Alice Eve naked probably raised the overall rating of the film. As for the film, nothing special, just decent.

Visually very good and filmed rather well. The story at the start is rather boring from my perspective but it does pick up half way, oh and Cranston! Finally Gosling has won me over, he was pretty bad-ass.

Anchorman 2 - Fairly meh. I loved, absolutely loved the first one but this was just a parody of it. Gave the fans what they wanted e.g. News Team fight, the Fantana condom cabinet, jazz flute, but was nowhere near as entertaining as the first one. I enjoyed it to an extent, but if you were ambivalent towards the first one then steer well clear of this one.

Got around to watching Kind hearts and coronets: although best remembered for Alec Guinness playing a variety of dukes, it has much much more to recommend. If you ever wanted a film to sum up British sense of humour you could do far worse than pick it up (or indeed any other of the Ealing comedies) - 8/10.

Drive: the first time I saw this I was really disappointed, but given how everyone goes on about it being a masterpiece, I thought I should give it another try. Sorry, still don't get it. The plot is predictable and ponderous, and it is not nearly as good or clever as it thinks it is. Then 2/3ds through the movie Ryan Gosling starts beating everyone up. For some reason he keeps wearing his bl00dy (in the litteral sense of the word) jacket. I quite like the soundtrack at times, and it is beautifully shot, and ambitious, but sorry, I don't get the hype. 4ish.

Finally watched Cape Fear (the Scorcese version), not really sure what the fuss is about. Nick Nolte, Robert Mitchum and Juliette Lewis were very good but Robert de Niro was quite comical and the plot was pretty silly. Possibly I was swayed by the Simpsons p1ss-take of it. Would watch it solely to tell any Scorcese afficianados to f off when they put it forward as the greatest thriller of all time.

Watched American Hustle which was excellent, very funny and clever and good performances all round. Also has the lovely Amy Adams in it as well which is always a winner for me. Would heartily recommend it.

Also watched Lone Survivor with Mark Wahlberg. Again very worth a watch, is a military film so it helps if you are in to that, but it does seem very realistic, although how I would know that is anyone's guess. If you like gunplay and people falling down mountains and hurting themselves you will love this.

Cape Fear is a decent enough thriller. Not seen the original.

Talking of De-Niro. Watched The Untouchables this morning, not for the first time. Still very good, if a little hammy from Connery.

If Mark Wahlberg is falling down mountains and getting hurt whilst also carrying a gun which may or may not add to his injuries then count me in

I like Amy Adams, I have this ridiculous and misguided theory with film actresses that there is no point fancying the likes of Charlize Theron and those kinds because they are clearly a country mile out of my league and even at my most charming it would not ever happen. Whilst the same is obviously true of Adams as she is not as ridiculously stunning looking as some film stars I can kid myself that if I was at the top of my very limited game it could happen.

It obviously couldn’t but the delusion is easier to buy into with someone like her than an Eva Mendez.

It would have to have Vanessa Feltz in it instead.

Feltz is a good call but not sure she'd fit down the well.

Gemma Arterton. Classy English Rose. That is all. Top of my list and she seems really down to earth too.

In other news, I watched Last Vegas yesterday. It's about 4 lifelong friends (Douglas, DeNiro, Freeman and Kline) who meet up aged about 70 as Michael Douglas' character is finally getting married (to a girl in her early 30s). Cue many ridiculously fun situations in Vegas with a couple of cameos, and you have a rather interesting film.

It's a bit like "The Hangover lite" (i.e none of the more warped humour) but you can tell that the 4 of them are having a really good laugh and Mary Steenburgen is a delight. It is a bit of light-hearted fun with a few little twists and turns - fairly basic stuff, but highly entertaining.

I give it a solid 8/10  thumbsup

The Last Film Watched Thread .................continued again - Page 8 Empty Re: The Last Film Watched Thread .................continued again

Watched American Hustle. It was... weird, a bit messed up even. Thought it took a while to get going (possibly a good thing as had the atmosphere which was prevalent for the last half of the film been there through it's entirety it might have been difficult to watch); some clever bits, some bits not as clever as they were trying to be.

All in all I enjoyed it well enough, but a fun, light-hearted movie it ain't. 6.5

Gave the fans what they wanted e.g. News Team fight, the Fantana condom cabinet, jazz flute, but was nowhere near as entertaining as the first one. I enjoyed it to an extent, but if you were ambivalent towards the first one then steer well clear of this one.

5/10

Hard to disagree with any of this, after 10 years we just get the same jokes recycled.

They should be ashamed.

It truly was poor. It's one thing to have recurring jokes, but when you recycle whole scenes, that's just weak. They also nicked a couple of jokes from Austin Powers. When you're watching a comedy there shouldn't be parts that stand out as the 'actually funny' scenes.

Sad to say, but that was the most bored I've been in a cinema for a long time.

Die Hard with a Vengeance. Watched it again on TV last night, can't help but love John McClane. Easily my second favourite of the Die Hard series, behind the original, and Jeremy Irons is great as the villain; if not quite Rickman levels.

watched the New Carrie film last night . it was ok and as expected more special effects was used then the original but to be honest the original was much better . Carrie was played by the actress HIT GIRL from kick ass tho even tho she wasn't bad she wasn't a patch on the original girl . not seen the middle remake one from a few years ago so can't comment on that one . this one worth a watch but original one better

I might have to watch it again now just to see it all from a differesnt perspective knowing the twist (like the Usual Suspects)

De Niro said De Caprio is the new De Niro in an interview Smile

6/10

Always thought the original was much better myself.

Yeah - just not the same without Sideshow Bob  Smile

Even so , both versions are up there in the thriller category. Liked Robert Mitchum appearing in both editions in different roles..

Did anyone else find the De Niro - Lewis scene just a bit too creepy ?
