Bearing in mind the above - what I'd like to know for each team is:
1. How is the season likely to go?
2. What are the teams' strengths?
3. What are the teams' weaknesses?
4. What can be done to improve matters for each team?
Any jingoism, sledging or graceless kicking of anyone whilst they are up or down will see posts deleted.
Be gracious and be constructive.

Actually with Hogg back and playing properly (hopefully) you've got Maitland. Either that or recall HUGOOOOOO
Nope - Tonks at 15 and Seymour at 11 will avoid any of those horror shows.
Agree that Tonks should be re-considered for Scotland. I know he had a tough game in the summer, but he's playing well for Edinburgh at the moment and is a pretty complete player. Good tackler, good runner, good under the high ball and has a great left peg for clearance kicks. RDW is right to point out that he can make the odd high profile error, but more often than not it's caused by Jack Cuthbert running into him. He took some extremely difficult catches on Sunday and his finish for the try was good.
I'd personally rather see Maitland in his best position on the wing and Tonks at 15, than Maitland shoved to fullback.
Still, Hogg remains the best 15 we have, let's hope he rediscovers form.

Has Hogg had his confidence smashed by the lions tour like Maitland?
Those two will be integral to Scotlands future and we need them to get back to their best!

I don't like to blame the Lions personally. Both players should be strong enough to deal with what happened.
Let's stop making excuses for our players. They just need to play better or they get dropped to the extent we have someone better. Simple.

They will recover and I think its more about peaking, being disappointed now having to find their Mojo again. That and no rest in the summer Hogg and Maitland both looked fine the last couple of weeks anyway

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread
I also think with Maitland that he hasn't really played badly either. He was stuck at fullback during a series in which we played terrible rugby. He's hardly going to produce great rugby when his only ask is to catch the high ball with 15 South Africans bearing down on him, and S Lamont trundling back in support.
I personally thought he did an ok job out of position. Don't think the Lions will have affected him much. He knows he's a quality player and has good pedigree. He just needs to get back in the 14 jersey and for both Glasgow and Scotland to pull their fingers out and start playing proper rugby.

When did Hogg last make a clear line break? Things like that will really help his confidence

Maitland himself has said that he is a confidence player and that the Lions played a part in his confidence being reduced! It's not a case of blame, but these things can happen!
Still, when Hogg and Maitland rock up for the 1872 and potentially face the defensive capabilites of lee Jones, I'm sure thier confidence will be boosted!

Any link to that quote? If true he needs to "man-up". That's a technical psychology term.
It's a good point though. Having to find enough gas to round Jack Cuthbert should cheer them both up.....

I think a competition to oust the slowest back in the squad would be amusing. I'd probably show up to that. Ben Atiga? Jack Cuthbert? It'd be like watching the Dad's race at school!!

I keep having visions of the , DTH, Maitland & Hogg running at (or passed) Atiga, Cuthbert and Jones
It's almost enough to move me to tears!

Just thought that quoted post was worth acknowledging as funny.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread
Folks,
I’m going to be pulling together a ‘Scottish rugby end of year awards’ thread in the next few weeks. The main award categories are going to be very similar to last year’s (Scotland, Edinburgh and Glasgow player of the year, young player of the year etc).
Does anyone have any special award categories you would like me to add in for people to vote on?
And yes I fully expect my question to turn into the usual poo flinging contest while people come up with hilarious awards to slag off Edinburgh!

Best signing
Worst signing
Best Scotland new cap
I guess those are obvious
The brainfart category must be sponsored by our favourite Scotland player, as in

Can we have the greatest non try award.
Given to those players who somehow manage to bring a great attacking moves that seems certain to yield a try, resoundingly to an end...

I still think the greatest (still ongoing) selection travesty is not nick de luca in any side or even Kellock for Scotland - it's the continued switch of Low and Welsh. Welsh is a decent loosehead, low a decent tighthead, why switch them?
