Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Baba aparajith and Zaheer the highlights of the day....lot written about Zaheer already.
aparajith is making every outing count in tons and tonnes of runs.......this is what a youngster wanting to play for India needs.....amass so many runs each time , every time they bat that selectors cannot ignore them.
this is what Pujara, Rahane, Badri, Mukjund, Vijay and karthik had done to attract selectros ........

Hundreds for Vijay Zol and Sanju Samson, and Pragyan Ojha among the wickets for Hyderabad are the morning highlights. Mumbai need 240 to win against Haryana, and are 57-1 at lunch.

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
it's a minefield the pitch....ball is boiuncing high...and a lot of seam movement and every now and then jumping off a length.
Mumbai if they do overhaul 240 would be very creditable.
Rahane was spotless and straight and correct for his 40 odd.....he is technically the best batsmen in our FC circuit undoubtedly.......
his 91 runs in the game are worth 300 on a normal pitch

The first win of the season goes to Gujarat, as they defeated Vidarbha by an innings and 1 run. The innings win has given them a bonus point as well.

Tendulkar n.o on 20 and Willow TV broke down when he arrived to bat.
will he have a fairy tale end to his Ranji career....a n.o 70 odd to see Munbai to a 4th inning chase on a very difficult pitch ?

Sanju Samson played a terrific innings of 211 to push Kerala pass Assam's 323. When Sanju was 8th out, Kerala were 358-8, meaning he singlehandedly carried the batting for his side. Terrific effort under pressure from the 18 year old.

Mumbai choking...you know that when Nayar is out playing on.......the ball rolls on the stumps....and then WK Tare is run-out.
tendulkar holding fort at 38* that is already worth about 100 on a normal pitch.......gods have given him the script for a heroic finish
as 73 needed with 5 wkts in hand

One other noticeable feature was the speed of IPL 135kph+ bowlers like Mohit and Harshal Patel were in the 130kph range.
they really stretch thmselves more when they have only 4 overs to bowl in a T20 game.

Round 1, day 3 roundup
Group A.
The Mumbai v Haryana game continues to be the most fascinating clash of the round with the advantage swinging one way and the other throughout. In the morning, Haryana’s last wicket partnership extended the score from 224-9 to 241, thanks to Harshal Patel’s 33 before Dawal Kulkarni finished the innings off. Patel wasn’t yet done though, he struck in his first over to remove veteran Wasim Jaffer for 1 to keep Haryana in control. But then Ajinkya Rahane and Kaustabh pawar joined forces, and despite the ball moving around it semed that Mumbai would see the chase through without fuss. Haryana spinner Jayand Yadav then accounted for Rahane who looked composed til then in scoring 40. Out came Tendulkar and he was soon joined by Abhishek Nayar as Pawar too failed to build on his start. After playing a few good shots Nayar played on, and wicketkeeper Aditya Tare got run-out. Mumbai were collapsing around Tendulkar, just like India used to do in the 90s. Tendulkar reached his 50 towards the end of the day, and he’s Mumbai’s hope of winning the game tomorrow as all other specialist batsmen are back in the hut. They need another 39 to win, Sachin is batting on 55 with Kulkarni giving him company. Haryana need another 4 wickets. Mohit Sharma took 2 wickets.
Gujarat registered the first win of the season. Spinner Rakesh Dhurv’s 5for including a hat trick to finish off the Vidarbha innings and an impressive 3 wicket performance from young Jasprit Bumrah resulted in Vidarbha getting bowled out for 218, 1 short of avoiding the innings defeat. The innings win gives Gujarat a bonus point as well.
Punjab batted well into the day as Mandeep Singh and Taruwar Kohli added more to their overnight hundreds. Mandeep was out for 175 and Kohli for 144 eventually. Lusty hitting from Harbhajan Singh and the lower order let Punjab declare at 560-6. Odisha were jolted by Sandeep Sharma with the new ball as he took out the openers cheaply but Odisha recovered to 110-2 by stumps, still behind by 246 and a massive task to save the game.
The Delhi-Jarkhand game got washed out for the 3rd day.
Group B.
Saurashtra spinners Kamlesh Makvana, Vishal Joshi and Dharmendra Jadeja picked up 3 wickets each to bowl Rajasthan out for only 136 in their first innings as they replied to Saurashtra 475. Following on, Rajasthan did better, but not by much as they lost 4 top order wickets for 147, including Robin Bisht, Ashok Menaria and half-centurion Vinit Saxena. Jadeja added 3 more wickets in the 2nd innings so far, ensuring Saurashtra didn’t miss Ravindra Jadeja too much with the ball.
India A seamer Ishwar Pandey, the highest wickettaker of the last Ranji season started brightly this time as well, as his 7 for 84 has reduced Railways to 335-9 in response to the MP first innings score of 510. Pandey carried the MP attack singlehandedly on a day where 2 Railways batsmen, Shivakant Shukla and Mahesh Rawat scored hundreds for their side. If MP can take the last wicket quickly tomorrow and if the bowlers are fit and ready for another day in the sun, they can push for an outright result.
Replying to Tamil Nadu’s 456, Services are 245-5. Old hand Yashpal Singh is batting on 87. M Rangarajan picked up 2 wickets for TN.
The Bengal v Baroda game was washed out for the 3rd day.
Group C
Sanju Samson played the innings of this round of Ranji so far, a classy double hundred and carried the Kerala batting against Assam. Sanju’s 211 helped Kerala to 362, a crucial 39 run first innings lead.
Another young exciting prospect, Maharashtra’s Vijay Zol, who scored a hundred on First Class debut went one step further on his Ranji debut, scoring an unbeaten double hundred. Harshit Khatiwale also scored a ton, and Maharashtra managed a decisive first innings lead and Tripura are already 1 down in their 2nd innings, still behind by 128 runs.
Rishi Dhawan’s all-round brilliance has helped Himachal to a commanding position against Goa. Dhawan, who smashed a quick fire 89 yesterday, was even more decisive with the ball today, picking up 5 wickets to wreck the Goan innings for 243. HP declared their innings at 558 as Bipul Sharma, overnight on 86, completed his ton.
We already have had 1 result in this round, and the Mumbai-Haryana game is sure to produce one tomorrow. Saurashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra are also in with a good chance for an outright win.

Sachin Tendulkar did it for Mumbai. Tendulkar's 79 not out, worth a ton on this track, carried Mumbai to a hardfought 6 wicket win against Haryana.

a 4 wicket win......but indeed it was a see-saw battle....tendulkar used up all his experience to navigate Mumbai on a very , very difficult pitch.
if it was an international game... the sudden jumping up deliveries from a length would have defnitely gotten this pitch reported

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Round 1, day 4 roundup
Group A.
Sachin Tendulkar scored an unbeaten 79 to guide Mumbai to a hardfought win against Haryana. Mumbai needed another 39 runs to win the game with 4 wickets remain on a demanding track with Sachin as the only specialist batsman left. Tendulkar stretched his 55 not out to 79 and along with Dawal Kulkarni, took Mumbai to the winning point. The game was the most exciting of this round not just because it was Tendulkar’s last domestic game and that he was there at the end to win the game for his side, but also because it was played on a proper track where the bowlers could find consistent life, both seamers and spinners and batsmen with good technique and temperament only could score on it.
Punjab defeated Odisha by an innings and 48 runs to earn a bonus point win. Harbhajan Singh and Sandeep Sharma picked up 3 wickets each and Siddarth Kaul and Manpreet Goni chipped in with 2 each. Abhilash Malik resisted for Odisha with a 50 but it just wasn’t enough.
Gujarat had already won their first game by an innings and took the bonus point as well and the Jarkhand v Delhi game was washed out without a ball being bowled.
Group B.
Veteran Saurashtra batsman Kotak had a very memorable final First Class game as his side routed Rajasthan by an innings and 31 runs. Dharmendra Jadeja took 4 wickets in the 2nd innings to finish with 7 in the match. Appropriately, it was Kotak who sealed the win by clean-bowling last man Pankaj Singh.
India A and MP seamer Ishwar Pandey had an outstanding season opener as he took 11 wickets in the match against Railways to nearly pull off a win for his side. Pandey took the remaining 1 Railways wicket in the morning without letting them add any more to their overnight total, and then added 3 more in the 2nd innings as Railways were forced to follow-on. But stubborn resistance from Arindam Ghosh helped Railways to just about get away with a draw.
The Tamil Nadu v Services game ended up as a rather tame draw. Services conceded a 110 run first innings lead despite a fighting 98 from veteran Yashpal Singh and Tamil Nadu then batted out a session and a half to score 117-5. India opener Murali Vijay had his 2nd failure of the game as he was out for 4.
The Bengal v Beroda game was washed out without a ball being bowled.
Group C.
A 7 wicket burst from seamer Sachin Chaudhari helped Maharashtra win their game against Tripura by 9 wickets. Former Maharashtra batsman Yogesh Takawale scored his 2nd ton of the game to almost deny his former team, but Chaudhari proved too hot to handle for his partner leaving him stranded on 109 not out. Kedar Jadhav then took on the Tripura bowlers and finished the chase of 60 in the company of Vijay Zol. Harshad Khadiwale’s early dismissal in the 2nd innings cost Maharashtra the bonus point.
The Kerala bowlers put in a good effort, but Assam managed to hang on for dear life to deny them. After conceedint a 39 run lead, Assam lost their openers early but Shivshankar Roy and Tarjinder Singh scored 40s and the lower order fought hard to just about keep Kerala out as they ended up with 217-9.
After being bowled out for 243 and conceding a massive 315 run first innings lead, the Goan openers Amogh Desai and Swapnil Asnodkar batted brilliantly to deny Himachal Pradesh. Desai was out for 126 and Asnodkar remained not out on 109 as the HP bowlers could only manage 2 wickets 2nd time round.
The game between Andhra and Hyderabad ended up as a tame draw. Hanuma Vihari scored his 2nd 50 of the game and that was the only highlight of the day.
All the completed games in group A produced outright results with Punjab and Gujarath also managing bonus point wins. Saurashtra bagged a bonus point win in group B and MP and TN have the 3 points for first innings lead. Maharashtra produced the only outright win in group C while Kerala, HP and Hyderabad settled for 3 points for the first innings lead.

Ishwar Pandey got his wickets on a rather difficult track for bowlers. Harbhajan did bowl well, all be it against a relatively weaker domestic batting unit and Sachin Chaudhari too was pretty good.
Other than Pandey and Chaudhari and Saurashtra's Dharmendra Jadeja and Vishal Joshi, not many youngsters produced impressive bowling displays though there were plenty of contributions with the bat.

Great first round for 3 bright young batting propsects in the country : Zol, Samson and Aparajith. Great to see Bhajji do well. Hopefully he'll make the Test side vs WI now. And nice to see Sachin doing well. Rumours that he may yet play on for the rest of the Ranji season. Lets hope so!

It'll indeed be nice if Sachin plays through the domestic season. Not only will it give us the chance to see him in action a bit more, but even more importantly, he'll keep the crowd interested and people will take increased notice of domestic cricket, and those who play with him will also gain valuable experience.ShankyCricket wrote:Great first round for 3 bright young batting propsects in the country : Zol, Samson and Aparajith. Really hope this flash in the pan performance from Harbhajan Singh doesn't result in a completely undeserved national recall. One good performance in 3 years is not what you need to get back to the national squad, that too against one of the weaker lineups. If he could replicate this performance in the coming games, then alright.

The touring West Indians are playing a 3-day game against Utter Pradesh from today. West Indies are batting and have lost Chris Gayle early. They are playing their standard batting lineup in the game, with Gayle, Kieran Powell, Darren Bravo, Samuels, Chanderpaul, Deonarine, Ramdin and skipper Sammy all playing. But their first choice bowlers, Kemar Roach and Shane Shillingford aren't playing the game. Sheldon Cotterrell, the promising left-arm seamer who has got his first national call-up and Tino Best are playing with Veerasammy Permole providing the spin option. Think all 3 are playing for one spot in the test lineup.

Bhajji would've been a much better pick than Mishra in Tests, wouldn't he? Not as if Mishra has done much in FC cricket since getting dropped and unlike Bhajji, doesn't even have a decent past record to back him up.msp83 wrote:It'll indeed be nice if Sachin plays through the domestic season. Don't really rate Ashwin either against half decent batting. I'm still hopeful about a Bhajji comeback. Hopefully he'll be consistent in the next few games and go to SA.

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Harbhajan was very inconsistent and rather poor in the last 2 years up to his dropping, there were a decent performance here, a good one there but he was generally very defensive and inconsistent and it reached where his lower order batting became the reason that kept others out, but that couldn't have gone on and it didn't. Since being dropped, he was pretty average in whatever Ranji games he played in 2011-12 and 12-13. So he has already outlived the credit from past performance, he has to now rebuild a cse for himself through consistent performances.
I have never been a big fan of Amit Mishra. But unlike Harbhajan, he at least took the chances he got in ODIs, all be it against a weak and spin-suspect batting lineup. But Bhaji wasn't even doing that of late. The other thing going for Mishra is that while Ashwin offers an offspinning option and Jadeja a slow left-arm orthodox one, Mishra can add variety as a leggy. And if he gets it right, a leggy is the best bet to pick up wickets on any tracks.
Ashwin had a poor away series against Australia where the Indian batting didn't really held up and the other bowlers didn't really fire as such and he had an average series against England at home. But his overall record is pretty good and he has been doing a much better job than what Harbhajan was managing towards the halt point of his career. Remember Harbhajan performed only with the bat when he played against New Zealand in 2010.
I would actively consider Ravindra Jadeja as India's spin option in South Africa if the pitches have nothing at all for the spinners as I think he's a better containing bowler than Ashwin is.

Remember Harbhajan performed only with the bat when he played against New Zealand in 2010.
I would actively consider Ravindra Jadeja as India's spin option in South Africa if the pitches have nothing at all for the spinners as I think he's a better containing bowler than Ashwin is.

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
--Raina gets a 100 in presumably spinning conditions vs. Baroda...Irfan is missing on injury still
--good to see lazy Nehra turning out for Delhi in a Ranji game and picking some wickets also
--the TN batting always delivers big......aparajit's apetitie for runs is monumental.....he should break into a higher grade like A games or ODIs at the earliest.....he is leaving Unmukt Chand far behind.
I will keep an eye on Pandey in this game...in my view and wish he should be in the squad ahead of Ishant.
--a high quality game on punjab's bolwing vs Mumbai's batting....old Jaffer batting on 92...Kaul picks up 2 wkts and Gony's 9 overs for 5 runs only.
Dunno why Sandeep sharma is missing.
yuv and Zaheer are also to play and are to watch out for....especially Zaheer......Nayar fails and Suryakumar Yadav is getting back amidst runs....he is also one for the near future.
--Rishi Dhawan picks a 4-fer....he has looked like a very good bowler for MI.....unfortunately he plays for HP and this shows is also against Tripura.
Rishi and Rasool and Robin Bisht are and Pankaj Singh was (now a bit past his prime) defnite India potentials who pay the price for coming from really weak and out of lime-light Ranji sides
we have a pretty good FC structure........with very varying conditions...seaming, moist wintry morning in North and East India....to the turners in South.....to the absolute Patta strips in Rajkot...so many stadiums and so many cricket games going on simultaneously

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Failures for Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Sehwag played a stupid shot against spin to gift his wicket away, Gambhir got one that bounced big on him to result in a catch at bat-pad. Unmukt Chand also failed.
S Badrinath closing in on a double ton.
Rishi Dhawan who took 4 wickets in the first innings, is the only fighter for Himachal with the bat, has gone pass 50. Hopefully someone is taking note.

Double ton for Subramaniam Badrinath. This guy is a run machine at the domestic level!. Will he get a national recall? Perhaps if he converts this into a triple hundred or something.......

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Round 2, day 2 round up
Group A.
Harbhajan Singh took 4 wickets to help Punjab bowl Mumbai out for 282. Veteran Wasim Jaffer scored 111 before falling LBW to Yuvraj Singh. But by the end of the day, Punjab frittered away most of the advantage as they were bowled out for only 155. Yuvraj Singh made 33, but most of the Punjab batsmen didn’t have many answers to Mumbai left-arm spinner Vishal Dabholkar who finished with 6 wickets. Zaheer Khan, who scored an attacking 33 that helped stretch Mumbai’s first innings, managed only 1 wicket in his 11 overs. The Mumbai openers have stretched the lead to 162 by the end of the day.
Delhi’s big guns Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir failed against Gujarat, but veteran Mithun Manhas and young Manan Sharma (son of former India batsman Ajay Sharma)
Put together an unbeaten 146 run partnership that has stabilized the innings and given them hope of overtaking Gujarat’s first innings score. Delhi are 195-4 at stumps, trailing Gujarat by 125. Gambhir made 31 and Sehwag, batting at 4, could only score a single. Akshar Patel took 3 wickets for Gujarat.
Skipper Shahbaz Nadeem smashed 85 and Saurabh Tiwary scored 77 to propel Jharkhand to 364 in their first innings against Karnataka. Srinath Aravind and KP Appanna took 4 wickets each for Karnataka. Abhimanu Mithun and Stuart Binny took a wicket each. R Vinay Kumar went wicketless. Karnataka are 123-1 in reply, debutant Mayank Agarwal is batting on 63. Varun Aaron couldn’t take a wicket on his return and his 9 overs went for 43 runs.
Sunny Singh scored 123 to help Haryana post 329 against Vidarbha. Vidarbha are 94-3 in response, Hemang Badani is batting on 35. Jayant Yadav has taken all the 3 wickets for Haryana.
Group B.
On a track that has been offering the spinners considerable help, former India seamer RP Singh picked up 4 wickets to provide Uttar Pradesh with a crucial 72 runfirst innings lead. Utkarsh Patel took the last remaining UP wicket to bowl them out for 302 and completed his 5for in the process. Opener Sourav Wakaskar scored 70 and Ambati Rayudu scored 65 before he was 9th out, but Baroda kept losing regular wickets to get bowled out for 228. Suresh Raina took 2-19 in 13 overs.
Domestic run machine S Badrinath scored 248 to push Tamil Nadu to a strong 532-8. Ishwar Pandey couldn’t add to his wicket of Baba Aparajith yesterday evening. Tamil Nadu has to be one of the most borring sides by the way, they’ve batted the entire 2 days without really thinking of declaring. Looks like a poor track as well, even the last game here produced big score though Pandey bowling his heart out almost opened up the chance of a result.
Ashok Dinda took 4 wickets to help Bengal bowl Rajasthan out for 244. Vineet Saxena remained not out on 119. Bengal are 172-3 in response. Rohan Banerjee made 77 and Wriddhaman Saha is not out on 34.
Anureet Singh’s 5 wickets restricted Saurashtra to 165 against railways, but Railways are a bit off track in response at 61-4. India seamer Jaydev Unadkat took 2 wickets for Saurashtra.
Roup C.
Robert Fernandez scored 88 and Sachin Baby scored 62 to help Kerala build their first innings up to 486. Andhra are 42 without loss in response.
Rishi Dhawan, after taking 4 wickets in the Tripura first innings, helped Himachal Pradesh take a 45 run first innings lead with 67. Dhawan was the only batsman who made a substantive contribution, and Tripura’s 15 year old offy Viki Sha picked up 5 wickets to restrict the Himachal lead to only 45 after Tripura were bowled out for only 141. Tripura batted much better in the 2nd time and are 93-1 at stumps with KB Pawan batting on 56.
J&K are 282-8, still 35 behind Goa’s first innings score. Opener Adil Rishi scored 80 for J&K and Shahdab Jakati picked 4 wickets for Goa. Parwez Rasool failed with the bat, scoring only 13.
Hundreds from Shivsankar Roy (134) and Gokul Sharma (126 not out ) helped Assam to 426-6 against Hyderabad. Hyderabad could manage only 1 wicket today and that went to all-rounder Ashish Reddy.

--wow...shib sankar paul as well as his colleague Ranadeep Bose came so close to playing for India.
Bengal has had a couple of healthy pacers always
---Hmm scary....Bhajji is picking wicket 9-fer in the firts game and 4 so far...
Badri is püast his prime.....had the captain been more supportive he could have played for India longer.
I would love to see sanju and rishi play one level higher...atleast for India-A

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Ranadeb Bose in fact went as far as the test squad though he didn't get a chance to play a game. He's only 34 but has been out of the Ranji frame for the last 2 season. Paul had switched to the ICL, came back but hasn't been a regular in the side for long and has now made a bit of a surprising return. The emergence of Dinda and Shami kept the pace stocks healthy for Bengal. Dinda used to be with the national squad for long last season, and now I don't think Shami will be looking back any time soon. So Paul might get a longer run this time, think he played only 1 game last season.

Round 2, day 3.
The Mumbai-Punjab game is nicely set up for the final day with Mumbai in a sgrong position to earn an outright win. Resuming their 2nd innings at 35-0, Mumbai batsmen adopted a busy approach at the crease despite losing regular wickets. Suryakumar Yadav scored a quick 62 at better than a run-a-ball and seamer Javed Khan chipped in with 44 in the lower order and Mumbai were bowled out eventually for 271. Left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh picked up 5 wickets while former India spinner Harbhajan Singh took his 2nd 4for of the match. The Punjab openers started brightly in the chase of 399, but then Zaheer Khan interfered with a typical Signature moment when he dismissed Jiwanjot and Ravi Inder Singh in successive overs to rest control for Mumbai. Vishal Dabholkar then took out Taruwar Kohli and Mandeep Singh to take his match tally to 8 wickets so far as Punjab ended the day at 108-4. Yuvraj Singh is batting on 19 at close.
A string of half-centuries from debutant opener Mayank Agarwal (90), Manish Pandey (52), G Satish (63) and R Vinay Kumar (55 not out) helped Karnataka take a first innings lead against Jharkhand. Karnataka declared at 424-7 and a 60 first innings lead. Jharkhand were 4 without loss at stumps, morning session will be crucial. Varun Aaron picked up just the 1 wicket for Jharkhand.
Offspinner Jayant Yadav picked up 5 wickets to ensure Haryana takes a first innings lead of 42 against Vidarbha. Veterans Hemang Badani and Rashmi Parida scored half-centuries but it wasn’t enough as Vidarbha were bowled out for 287. Haryana lost their openers cheaply 2nd time round and ended the day at 29-2.
Left-arm spinner Akshar Patel picked up 6 wickets to help bowl Delhi out for 295, handing Gujarat a first innings lead of 25. Though Gujarat lost 4 early wickets in the 2nd innings, Smit Patel and Parthiv Patel steadied the innings with an unbeaten 42 run partnership to take them to 89-4, an overall lead of 114 going into the final day. Earlier, veteran Mithun Manhas scored 104 and Ashish Nehra made an important lower order contribution to stretch Delhi’s innings.
Group B.
Suresh Raina and RP Singh continued to come up with creditable performances as Uttar Pradesh are in control of their game against Baroda. An unbeaten 125 from Tanmay Srivastava and 65 from Raina helped UP declare their 2nd innings at 294-6, setting Baroda a score of 365 to win the match. Baroda got off to a terrible start as RP ripped out the openers to reduce them to 5-2 at close.
Wriddhaman Saha’s 78 caried Bengal to a comfortable first innings lead against Rajasthan. Aniket Choudhary picked up 5 and Pankaj Singh 4 wickets to bowl Bengal out for 326 and restrict their lead to 82. Rajasthan are still 20 away from wiping out the lead and have already lost 1 wicket.
Jaydev Unadkat took 5 wickets for Saurashtra, but Mahesh Rawat’s 62 and Murali Kartik’s 43 just about got Railways over the line as far as first innings lead was concerned. Railways were bowled out for 175, handing them a first innings lead of 10. Saurashtra are 54-2 in the 2nd innings.
After conceding a mammoth 532, the Madhya Pradesh batting floundered against Tamil Nadu as they ended the day at 221-7. R Aushik Srinivas took 3 wickets for TN, while skipper Devendra Bundela remained not out on 64 to try and fight another day for MP.
Group C.
From a comfortable 93-1 in their 2nd innings, Tripura collapsed to 188 all out against Himachal Pradesh. Bipul Sharma took 4 wickets and Rishi Dhawan, who already took 4 wickets in the first innings and top-scored with 67 added 3 more wickets 2nd time round. Dhawan wasn’t required in the 2nd innings with the bat though as Himachal chased down the target of 144 with only 2 wickets down. Prashant Chopra scored 84.
The game between Goa and Jammu & Kashmir is set for an interesting finish on the final day. The last 2 wickets of J&K held out for the first hour in the morning and pushed the score to 302 but couldn’t quite secure the first innings lead as they fell 15 short. Shadab Jakati finished with 5 wicketws. Goa though couldn’t quite get away with it as Parwez Rasool led J&K’s bowling efforts with 4 wickets. Goa ended the day at 245-9.
Half-centuries from B Sumanth, S Bharat and M Sriram took Andhra to 288-3 at stumps against Kerala. They need another 199 to take the first innings lead.
T Suman cracked a stroke filled ton as Hyderabad to Assam’s first innings score of 501 with 218-4 at stumps. Assam batted well into day 3 and finished with 501-9 with Gokul Sharma scoring an unbeaten 161.

Saha in Tests (for now, Samson the eventual successor).
Samson in LOIs (he's ready for LOIs I think)
Karthik isn't int'l standard.

Let him deliver one good season....or atleast better part of the season.....I am sure the weight of wickets he will come into reckoning.
after the Windies series.....it's all overseas cricket until the end of English summer..so we aren't gonna be needing beyond Ashwin and Jadeja....
even Mishra is not likely to get much chance

Re: Indian domestic season 2013/14
Round 2, day 4.
Group A.
It took Mumbai less than a session to complete a massive 184 run win against Punjab as they bowled Punjab out for 214 in their 2nd innings. Vishal Dabholkar took 4 wickets in the 2nd innings to finish with 10 in the match. Iqbal Abdullah took 3 wickets. Yuvraj Singh managed a start, but like in the first innings, he couldn’t convert it into a substantive effort as he was out for 40.
Srikant Wagh wrecked Haryana’s 2nd innings with 5 wickets as they were bowled out for only 102. Despite taking a 42 run first innings lead, Haryana’s collapse 2nd time round opened up a door for Vidarbha and they barged through it to complete the chase of 145 with only 2 wickets down. Opener Faiz Fazal scored an unbeaten 50, and Wagh, promoted up the order, made 31.
Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir failed for the 2nd time in the match but Gujarat couldn’t force an outright result. Parthiv Patel’s half-century stretched Gujarat’s 2nd innings to 231. Vikas Mishra picked up 4 wickets for Delhi. With the first innings lead of 25, Delhi’s target was 257 in just under 2 session. But Unmukt Chand got run-out with just a single on the board and Virender Sehwag, despite getting an early life, couldn’t go beyond 15. Delhi managed to bat out the day and ended up with 100-3. Gambhir, following his first innings 31, made 44 2nd time round. Sounds familiar? He has been doing it for 3 years now, getting starts and never converting it to something meaningful.
The game between Jharkhand and Karnataka ended up as a rather uninteresting draw. Jharkhand, behind by 60 in the first innings, batted out the day with only 5 wickets down. Half-centuries from Bhavik Thaker and Ishank Jaggi helping their cause.
Group B.
RP Singh the platform yesterday, and the Uttar Pradesh spinner took over from there as they bowled Baroda for 186 and won the game by 182 runs. Ambati Rayudu made a commendable 56 not out on a demanding pitch, his 2nd 50 of the game and Yousuf Pathan smashed 49 at better than a run-a-ball, but it was nowhere near good enough to deny UP. Praveen Gupta took 4 wickets, 3 of those coming in a single over. Piyush Chawla took to and skipper Suresh Raina chipped in with 1 wicket.
Tamil Nadu took the 3 remaining Madhya Pradesh wickets in the morning to earn a massive first innings lead of 263 despite the best efforts of the MP skipper Devendra Bundela who remained stranded on 95. Having been forced to do the follow-on, MP did much better and batted out the day to earn a draw. Mohnish Mishra struck an unbeaten half-century.
An unbeaten hundred from Bhushan Chauhan and his 150 run partnership with Arpit Vasavada who struck an unbeaten half-century helped Saurashtra bat out the day and earn a draw against Railways. Despite the first 3 days producing 22 wickets, the final day had just one.
Robin Bist scored 75 and Dishant Yagnik 66 not out to let Rajaasthan get away with a draw against Bengal.
Group C.
Jammu & Kashmir and Goa played out the most thrilling game of this round. Goa’s last wicket could add just a single to their overnight score of 245 and set J&K a target of 261. But J&K started badly, lost 3 wickets for 256 before recovering a bit and then collapsing again having lost 7 wickets even before reaching 150 they looked down and out for the count, but Hardeep Singh and Samiullah Beigh had other ideas. They then combined to guide the chase that was completed in the 2nd last over of the mandatory overs. Hardeep remained not out on 95 and Beigh hit an unbeaten 50.
Vinoop Manoharan’s 4 wickets helped Kerala bowl Andhra out for 431 and take 3 points for the first innings lead. Kerala batted out the rest of the day and reached 89-3 at stumps with Sanju Samson scoring an unbeaten 51.
Assam’s bowlers combined to bowl Hyderabad out for 370 despite a hundred from B Sandeep.
