606 Innaugeral Event
I know we have members of this board from all over the UK, and even some from abroad, however: I think it would be a great idea to have a meet somewhere central. Yes we all have pressures on our time, and holidays booked, things to do etc, but I think it would make for a great couple of days.
We could organise a cheap hotel deal and sort out a decent course, and generally have a good time. It would be good putting faces to names, and I would imagine there would be much craque, plenty of beverages and some great golf. Any number of formats could be played, even a north south Ryder cup event spread over 2-days. Many of the higher handicappers would pick up tips/advice from cat1/2 players amongst us, and some of us will demonstrate how to lead the field in fairways missed.
I’m up for it and not bothered where, or if it needs to be mid-week or weekend. It wasn’t so very long ago that Mac and I were talking about doing a little trip to some out of the way, Scottish island. This small jaunt would have been an airplane, hire car and a 34 day ferry ride.
Could be impossible to do, and difficult working around everyone’s diary I know, but think there’s no harm in finding out if it is doable or not.

Don't want to pour water on the flames of a good idea Doc, but it has been tried, many times, and there always seem to be reasons why it doesn't happen. We almost had a meet up at The Belfry a couple of years ago but things fizzled out in the end, even with that central venue. Try, by all means, but I won't hold my breath.

i'm unlikely to be able to do it (business and children) but would be interested in a scottish 606 meet if other locals are.

Nothing ventured and all that ....
It may be an idea to update the old 606 contact list and check where the majority of members are based, and have it in that area? i know who bloke who can manage the score cards and handicaps who's walking around on crutches at the minute

Re: 606 Innaugeral Event
I did try to get this up and running but interest was minimal.

Ten interested did just not seem enough to get the thing of the ground.
Greame, feel free to resurrect it if you like, I will change the thread title.

Re: 606 Innaugeral Event
re the hickory club thread. how about a 606 hickory event at kingarrock near cupar? http://www.kingarrock.com/index.html
i've been reading their site and met the guy who runs it the other week and really fancy having a go. it sounds like the key to success is a slow, smooth swing. could do wonders for my normal swing!
£25 a round - 9 holes (2,022yds, par 37) including club hire, 3 balls, a nip to start you off and ginger beer and shortbread for after ther round. as a golfing experience, it sounds great.

I think smaller, regional events may be easier to kick off. Mac, if you fancy my hickory suggestion above, let me know.

greame
Hickory event would definitely be of interest.
We could always change the the 606 event I started to a one day affair in east lothian or fife?
Find somewhere like gullane where you can get a days golf (36 holes) for about £50?

i'd quite like a day's golf in east lothian and at £50 on gullane, can't say fairer than that. let's see who's up for it.

If any of the regulars on here aren't on the old 606 contact sheet, drop me a message on here with your email address and I can send it out to you.

For us Southerners, I've heard that Woburn are doing 2 rounds (Marquis and Dukes) and a night in their hotel (dinner, bed and breakfast) for just over £200. Sounds like a great deal.

That would be me your volunteering then I take it Doc? Sounds like a plan I'd be up for that being part of the organisation for scores and handicaps etc. After going to be some time before I'm competitive again but even so I'd be up for meeting and getting involved in some way especially if I get to bomb about the course Seve style at Valderamma with a buggy!
We could possibly find a way of doing regional's with winners somehow all getting to face off in a final event! The 606v2 Tour!!

When Mrs Mercurio and the dogs moves to Europe, I'll be up for most golfing weekends (I'll have to, I'll be bored stiff, otherwise).
From August, I'll be like a kid in a sweetshop, I reckon.

I'm up for anything Midlands/North West/Wales through to darn sarf. Events like the Bournemouth Open are great because it doesn't matter about numbers so much. Perhaps it's worth investigating more of those....

Re: 606 Innaugeral Event
As much as I like a drink I hate drinking before or during a round. Hate the feeling that I could be playing better. Prime example was the year I took some beers in the bag to a junior club championship. I got my mate to caddie so didn't mind the weight.
Got a little tipsy and came well down the order, then after the round had the shame of being asked to leave the clubhouse over complaints. A lesson learned and I will never repeat that sort of behaviour.

Askernish is also on an Island in the "middle" of the Atlantic?

Bermuda... I have no idea how many brownie points that would cost... but it would hurt obtaining them in the first place I think
