Stevenson - Cloud
Any thoughts?
I won't be staying up for it but I'll be recording and am looking forward to it, especially as Bomber takes on the winner. I don't really know enough about either other than the obvious power Superman has and the disappointing show Cloud has to come back from last time out.
I'm not sure Tony can best either one tbh but I can't wait to see him have a go.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
I think Cloud can take this to be honest. The belt changing hands so fast would be funny.
Dawson to Stevenson to Cloud to Bellew and then if Bellew were to lose it on the first defence....
Has there ever be a scenerio where the has been 5 people holding the WBC belt within a 12 - 18 month period???

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
This should be a fun fight
Adonis has the one punch KO power but is limited and can be hurt himself whereas cloud is strong and tough but slow and power of his own
I think Cloud can take it, neither are boxers and while adonis hits harder I think Clouds more lilely to take the shots and come back as he does seem very tough

For some reason I see Stevenson doing a Dawson & catching Cloud cold. Cloud is one of those boxers who thinks he's a lot better than he actually is. Stevenson KO1 or 2.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Cloud's easier to hit but also has a pretty good chin and workrate.
Stevenson has the power, is harder to hit and sets up his shots better.
I'm backing Adonis

I don't rate Cloud as highly as others. If Adonis doesn't get him out of there I would give Bellew a fair chance of beating Cloud.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Stevenson is in a different stratus to cloud, he has better movement and will be too nimbulus. Cloud won't have the foggiest idea what to do. Stevenson could take him out with one lightning bolt but if not he will launch a thunderous assault and rain punches in. The cumulus effect of his shots will leave tavoris in cloud cuckoo land.
Prediction: Stevenson ko cloud nine.

If Bellew beats the winner I can see Hearn bringing over some unknown Polish plumber for the first defence and claiming that the others didn't want to fight bomber.

To be honest as much as I like Bellew as a fighter.. He's not on the same level as Cloud or Stevenson.azania wrote:If Bellew beats the winner I can see Hearn bringing over some unknown Polish plumber for the first defence and claiming that the others didn't want to fight bomber.
Stevenson for me, does it with ease as well.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Only seen a few brief snippets of these two so just going on instinct here and what I've read. Stevenson has brute strength but zero technique, he relies on athleticism and his defence is reflex based. He needs room to punch, but Cloud is gonna be close to the flame all night. Cloud, who only gets into trouble with guys who box him, has an enormous advantage in punch resistance. I don't know that Stevenson, who may have caught Dawson at the right time, can make a dent. If he can't.......well, Cloud is a patient guy. He doesn't start all that fast but, for all his flaws, knows how to deliver his payload when given a chance. He was frustrated and bloodied against Hopkins but you never saw him fold. I think he has the chin and condition to weather the storm and drown his opponent late. Either that or points. I'd like to catch this live.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Wouldn't say Stevenson has no technique, he tends to move his head when throwing shots so he's not easily in line for the counter. Check this gif:
He doesn't just swing a left, he feints with the right first to open up the target then wins it with one shot.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
It's an interesting fight. A pretty quick handed banger against a strong durable plodder. Stevenson is no sugar ray, but is better than many give him credit for in my view. He gets slated for the journeyman loss, but that same journeyman came within a whisker of doing the same to Andre ward.
He has fewer names in w column than cloud, but cloud really should have 2 defeats. Tough fight to call, I guess the default position is Stevenson early or cloud late.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cloud wins this via a tight decision. Don King needs his world champion back. Stevenson has the power but I would say Cloud has a slight edge in speed and far more experience at fighting championship level

What sort of time is this one on?
Stevenson has a bit of a dark back story. If any of it's true I wouldn't mind my prediction being wrong and Tavoris creaming him.

Yeah, including some underage stuff and forcing girls to fight nude for his entertainment. Apparently a girl escaped the place they were being kept and alerted the cops.

Stevenson landed a mere 28 out of nearly 200 jabs, needs to stop using that thing to measure distance and start using to do some damage

Superman Proves He Is The Real Deal
Quite a lot of people, uncluding myself, jumped on the supposed hype train of this guy stating that it was a lucky punch that sparked Dawson and that if he had fought a boxer ie. Cloud, Hopkins etc he would be found wanting.
A fair few people, including HBO had Cloud winning this fight before the first bell even rang, they had him that much of a favourite that they presumed Cloud would be stopping him within 8 rounds due to his superior boxing brain, ability and ability to soak up punches.
Well......nobody could have been more wrong, If nobody has watched the fight yet, Id suggest you tune in.
Cloud was outboxed, outpunched, hurt badly, cut over both eyes, and just generally took a complete pasting from the first round on.
Is he now just a hype train or is Superman the real deal?
Stevenson vs Kovalev would be epic for me.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Bit of both I'd say. I'd never been that impressed by cloud and I saw more in Stevenson than many seemed to, but I didn't expect the level of composure we saw from him last night.
Difficult to say how much was cloud just plodding forward doing little and how much was Stevenson' s movement and stinging lefts discouraging him. However you saw it, you can't argue with the job stevenson did on him.

There may be fights where it becomes an issue but it seems to do its range finding job quite well.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
I just hate distance finding jabs... They seem a waste of a perfectly working arm. He seemed to be in second gear the whole fight, not really trying to kill it off, so as to exhibit his boxing skills.
A win over Bellow, and Stevenson would have taken out three top tenners in a division he'd never fought in. I know Floyd will probably get it, but he is the dark horse for fighter of the year.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
A lot of people didn't rate Cloud as highly as some of the media including myself. Stevenson is a great athlete and of course can pop.
The future looks bright for Adonis. I don't see anyone beating him. Hopkins is too old and Kovalev will have problems going to deep water. Koalev v Stevenson is an explosive fight though.
I wonder what Tony Bellew was thinking watching that. He is placing great faith in what the right game plan can achieve.

Jabs are often less effective as weapons in stance clashes to be fair. Hook to keep their lead foot on the inside back hand to knock em out.
Adonis done good. But I don't know whether I over estimated his power or Tavoris has some freak jaw on him.

As I said on another thread, Adonis' power may have been overestimated by myself and others, or Tavoris chin really is freakish.
He really surprised me with how cerebral he could be on the backfoot.

He could've been, but drawing someone in then countering them clean with your power hand then (and this was pretty cool) following it straight up with the same punch doesn't strike me as someone carrying an opponent.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
I never rated Cloud that highly and have been just waiting on him slipping in status down from contender to gatekeeper type. So, you can't get too carried away with this win.
Saying that, Stevenson looked great. He's not just a guy with a punch. He can still land with power on the back foot, and is excellent at slipping punches in order to keep himself in offensive range. I think he's put himself firmly in place as the top LHW.
Stevenson vs Kovalev is the fight we need to see.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Thanks for not laying into me guys. In my defence, I would just say that's actually the first time I've seen either of those two boxers fight last night., and everything I wrote was plagiarized virtually word for word. That said, I was wrong as you get.
I'm not going to go overboard on Stevenson but I won't be picking against him anytime soon, let's put it that way. He's now made light work of two world class fighters back to back, although Cloud is painfully one dimensional. Wouldn't like to pick a winner between him and Kovalev, as I didn't see his fight with Clev either, but if they could get that on next, well that would surely be one of the most eagerly anticipated bouts in the whole of the sport. Two prime quality fighters with a bit of a buzz about them. The sooner they get that on the better, while they're both on a roll. Stevenson could also go for winner Pascal Bute which is another great fight. The division has suddenly come alive.

Re: Stevenson - Cloud
Stevenson cant box going backwards. everytime Cloud came forward he was clueless. Problem was Cloud was clearly a bit spooked about Stevensons power and didn't have the self belief or the stamina to pin him back for 3 minutes a round. Cloud clearly didn't have the desire to fight through the pain either, as soon as the first cut opened up he was a broken man. Both guys looked pretty knackered after 5 rounds too.
I think theres a couple of people commenting on this fight who haven't seen it yet.

Stevenson The Superman. Fantastic performance out punching and surprisingly out boxing cloud putting on a dominant display of technique and power.
Who would have thought it?
So much for a hype job, this guy is for real.
Stops Cleverley, Bellew and would LOVE to see him in with Kovalev.

Cloud was shown up by a 48 year old Hopkins and Campillo not long ago, he's not the fighter you prove your world class credentials against.
