Life - your thoughts please
First topic message reminder :
Honestly speaking, how has it been for you. Good? Bad? Lame? Rock n Roll?
Have you acheived all you dreamed of?
If not where do you go from here?
Do you think about death?
Do you care about the world and everyone in it?
I,m 34, losing my hair and girls don't look at me anymore.
Is it over?

The thought if a pint of Guinness upsets me!!
Now a nice bottle of that Stella Cidre on the other hand. Delightful.

Bit homo. Am partial to a drop of Cider but needs to be dry - Strongbow or any other cheap stuff.Lumbering_Jack wrote:The thought if a pint of Guinness upsets me!!

I thought the same first time I had a bottle Sean, but it is really nice. I quite like strongbow, especially the new black current flavour.

Re: Life - your thoughts please
Lumbering you can't drink Guinness out of a bottle. It has to be on tap and poured right.
The Stella cider isn't bad at all. Like the corona and that type of beer myself. And a pint of harp ice cold is hard to beat.

Re: Life - your thoughts please
As someone who drinks pretty much nothing but Guinness think too much is made about how it is poured. I have had people take frigging ages over pouring it and made a huge ceremony of it and it has been bleeding rubbish and has still took an age to settle. Just pour the bleeding stuff and I’ll wait for it to settle before I drink it.
And as for those that try to put a shamrock or clover or whatever it is in the head, there is a special circle in hell reserved just for them, and it is below the pederasts and Daily Mail journalists. (only joking about the second one, nobody is below them)

It tastes different from bar to bar though Jeff. I wouldn't drink it over here. Even at home there's certain bars in Belfast I'd go to drink Guinness and others where I wouldn't touch it.

Had an awesome pint of Guinness in Cork once. Can't remember the place but it was the best I've ever had.
Relatively pointless post seeing as Cork is a city and I can't remember the name of the bar but there was a big fat bald man (could be DAVE) with tight shorts and a Celtic shirt on outside. He had a boombox in front of him and was happily dancing away . Only thing is, the boombox wasn't playing any music. I think he may have been a bit simple.
I am hoping this anecdote will narrow it down and enable one of our Irish posters to tell me the name of the bar.

Rodders best I've had is in the Rose and Crown on the Ormeau road. As a student we would go to the Hatfield which is 50 yards away from it for the craic but you would always go to the Rose for a few pints of Guinness 1st. Kelly's cellars does a great one too.

They drink a bottle of buck fast before the pub and then shorts or alcohopops in the pub (dealers choice) and usually like to talk of how great an underage footballer/hurler they were.

Couldn't confirm or deny how good a footballer/hurler he claimed to be. He said 'good afternoon' as I walked in the pub and I nodded back politely. That was as far as our conversation went. The Boss wrote:They drink a bottle of buck fast before the pub and then shorts or alcohopops in the pub (dealers choice) and usually like to talk of how great an underage footballer/hurler they were.
It was only about 12:15 as well. He was busting some cool shapes for that time in the day.

Re: Life - your thoughts please
I'll say nothing. Annual leave and a flight home at 6.45 am means that come 12.15 on Thursday I'll be that guy. Minus the fat, bald part and possibly the Celtic top. I haven't picked out my outfit yet.

I love Ireland. I had my honeymoon there. Stayed in Dingle and did the whole South West/Ring of Kerry thing. Beautiful part of the world and lovely people, but the one thing I remember above all else is the fat, bald dude dancing to no music. Strange how your mind works.

The time it takes to get served a pint will kill me one of these days. 75% of the time the bar staff could help by saying 'if you want a coffee brewed, go to chuffing Starbucks'.Rowley wrote:As someone who drinks pretty much nothing but Guinness think too much is made about how it is poured. Ah yeah know the place but never been in it. Thought it might be a bit ropey because of its location. The Boss wrote:Rodders best I've had is in the Rose and Crown on the Ormeau road. Never had a problem in it myself. I lived in the holylands for my student years. Just the regulars sitting at the bar and the odd student with a taste for Guinness.
