Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
First topic message reminder :
2014-05-03 Floyd Mayweather Jr 45(26)-0-0
MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 12
WBC welterweight title
bout subject to change & commission approval
I wonder where Boxrec get their info? They do call some fights that don't get made Anyone think this one is a goer.
I have a feeling Khan is next for Money May. I thought the fight might have been in the UK but I don't know what the BBBofC rules are on injecting pain killers. Floyd talking about fighting in the UK may just have been to stir up interest and gauge the reaction.
Anyway, Khan is often suggested as being the man with the foot speed and fast hands to trouble Mayweather. Can Virgil Hunter be the man to finally put together a plan that Khan is able to understand and stick to?
The first few rounds could be interesting.

Khan has been chasing this fight for years to the point where his career has suffered. If he wanted to himself the best chance to win he would take another welterweight fight, knuckle down and not risk being out the ring so long before this fight. I wouldnt be surprised if this is a retirement fight for him.

This won't be his last fight. Team Khan loves the money Amir generates. If he puts on a good show his marketability improves.

Petersen-Khan was held in a small venue in washington.......
Khan would be better to stay over here......There is a huge number of asians who probably still think he's better than Ray robinson no matter what he does and would pay ppv to watch him go fishing!!.....He's a no name in America.........especially after the Garcia fight.

Hes made no secret in the past he wants to retire early. After this fight, presuming he loses, he might well do that. His parents are it him to retire early as well. After Mayweather, I think he will feel there isnt much left to do.

Amir Khan's camp has rubbished claims that the Bolton fighter is looking to pull out of December's clash against Devon Alexander in order to challenge Floyd Mayweather, but rumours abound that legal wrangling is the only thing that is stopping the plug being pulled.

Amir Khan's dream fight with Floyd Mayweather Jnr is under discussion by his promoters Golden Boy but Team Khan moved quickly on Thursday to dispel reports that the fight was a done deal for May 3 next year.
A statement early on Thursday from the boxer's office read: "Team Khan would like to dispel recent reports that Amir Khan has pulled out of a potential match-up against Devon Alexander on December 7th, taking up a fight against Floyd Mayweather in May of next year instead."
"Contrary to this story, Amir Khan is currently in training camp in San Francisco with the aim of fighting again in December against Alexander once an agreement can be reached."
It appeared earlier this week that Devon Alexander, the IBF welterweight champion, had pulled out of a fight with Khan, expected to be in December, to face former world champion Zab Judah instead.
Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
If Khan fights and beats Alexander, then a fight with Mayweather is more justified. Hasn't beaten anybody of note since Judah

There is more chance of me pulling a solid gold nugget from my Harris than Khan winning a fight with Floyd. I don't see him beating Devon fwiw and that's a fight that should go ahead regardless. As alluded to above, if he beats Alexander then he has a claim to fight Floyd but his last few fights have been disasters.

Look at how marketable Gatti was. Always in exciting fights and never fails to deliver. But lost many fights. Vinny Paz also got big fights even moving up to SMW and stacking up so much m,uscles he looked like a WWF wrestler. I wonder how me managed to do that. Remarkable recovery from a nasty road acident though. Great guy.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:You're wrong.........he is a htree-time loser and if just being in good fights made you marketable..........Vinny Pazienza would have been as big as Ali......azania wrote:This won't be his last fight. That shows how well he has integrated into mainstream British culture. Just does not do it with drugs and booze. A credit to the nation who gives vast sums to good causes and helps the local community and the down trodden. Vinny wasn't the star in his biggest fights....and was never a big star.......He fought Duran and Camacho but a great guy you are right......
Gatti was a good looking rags to riches kid who spent his whole career fighting in the States..........Looked Mexican too which helps........He was also succesful in America and had a trilogy with ward who was a cult figure also to propel him further..
Khan is from a part of the World that isn't too popular back home and is in no way as exciting......
But I might be wrong........I won't hammer the point home on this one..

This is stupid. Robbo lost several times yet most rate him as the best ever. Louis, the allegedly best puncher ever got smacked like a drunk on acid in his prime. Levelled and smacked out of the ring by a plodder when younger than Floyd.Strongback wrote:If Khan wins is Floyd still possibly the best fighter of all time or at least in your Top 5 P4P ATG's?TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Imagine If Khan did beat mayweather...........What a nauseating creep the guy would be then........

He made 6 million dollars in the whole of his career.........As he states on youtube.........
Considering he made a mark post Hagler-Leonard where million buck purses were the norm......Curry got $750,000 for mcrory two years before that fight......
and that he won titles at five different weights.........
The figures show he wasn't as marketable as you suggest.

Getting your coq out and fighting in the streets = an ok form of British culture (quite why 'integration' should be applauded I don't know as Amir's not an immigrant), but liking a pint and doing coke = not ok.
They both do a huge amount of charitable work and community involvement.
The only difference is skin colour/ethnicity - your principal hang-up(s).

Did he instigate the street fight or was he defending himself? As for getting his todger out, I haven't heard that before. Sad show if true.
But taking coke is vile. How many people are killed in Colombia and Mexico so Hatton can get his fix. He has contributed to some of those deaths whether he likes it or not.
Disgraceful bloke.

Hatton was self harming with coke because he has mental issues.....Addiction starts in the mind....With that logic you think all addicts are equally vile.....

Why on earth are you bringing colour into it. Are you that insecure? Pinklon Thomas I liked coz he overcame smack addiction. Dokes was a fool. Robin WIlliams said coke was God's way of telling you that you had too much money. I say it's a total lack of education and intelligence. I smoke. Vile habit and trying to give up by using electronic ones.TopHat24/7 wrote:Will crack up when some other fight Az here worships, and isn't white, gets caught having a sniff or a smoke of something illegal.

Yep and nobody has ever died as a result of the illegal trade in marajuana have they (the argument you used as to why Hatton was vile for using coke) If Hatton has blood on his hands and is vile you are equally as bad by your own standards, either that or yet again you are making it up as you go along.azania wrote:

Home grown Rowley. Plus ganja is a natural herb smoked for thousands of years. Coca leaf is fine by me also. I have chewed it before. Killed hunger pains, gives greater stamina, kills fatugue and produces a stonking erection. I recommend you try some.Rowley wrote:Yep and nobody has ever died as a result of the illegal trade in marajuana have they (the argument you used as to why Hatton was vile for using coke) If Hatton has blood on his hands and is vile you are equally as bad by your own standards, either that or yet again you are making it up as you go along.azania wrote:

Was not the argument you made though Az, you stated people die in Mexico and Columbia to get Hatton his fix. I am stating the exact same is true of cannabis, as such if taking coke gives you blood on your hands weed does exactly the same, ergo users of both are vile (your word)

I'm merely saying - you said people die so Hatton can get a hit. Conversely, underage kids get underpaid and overworked so I could wear my Nike's. The one being legal does not make it better

Az just give it up Mate............azania wrote:Home grown Rowley.
Having a spliff is fine by me. Totally natural. Spent many hours in Bequai smoking this sun up. Skunk is not though.

Good point. But ganja should be legalised. Coke is cut with all manner of poisons after people have killed one another to get it here.Rowley wrote:Was not the argument you made though Az, you stated people die in Mexico and Columbia to get Hatton his fix. I am stating the exact same is true of cannabis, as such if taking coke gives you blood on your hands weed does exactly the same, ergo users of both are vile (your word)

Whether it should be legalised is a completely subjective view, fact is it isn't and as such there is an illegal trade in it which results in deaths. Perhaps Ricky thinks coke should be legalised, applying what appears to be your logic if he does he is exempted from any guilt about the people who die to give him his fix and therefore is not vile.

I can't see many people agreeing with child labour. But take that income away from the family and that kid may be thrown out. Especially if they are girls. Capitalist greed is the problem, not the trainers per se. Plus UN laws should be enforced making the needs of the child paramount.kingraf wrote:I'm merely saying - you said people die so Hatton can get a hit. Conversely, underage kids get underpaid and overworked so I could wear my Nike's. The one being legal does not make it better
