Vera contains spoilers
Sympathy should be in large supply for Vera who after initially being robbed on the scales was robbed for a second time in the fight. Chavez won a highly controversial UD (robbery). The size disparity was apparent between the two fighters with Chavez looking at least one if not two weight classes above on the night but despite Vera was by far the busier and outworked Chavez all the way through. Almost everyone was unanimous (bar the judges of course) that Vera won the fight by a margin of anything from 98-92 to 96-94 (HBO commentary). To add to the controversy. One card had an unfathomable 98-92 in favour of Chavez that makes messers CJ Ross and Ortiz recent scorecards look bang on the money. Chavez looked sluggish throughout the fight throwing only half the amount of punches Vera did and looked to be feeling the effects of his time out. After his win team Chavez said they would be moving to 168lbs with a view to facing WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika.

I knew he would get robbed, I just thought they would at least throw him a draw

Re: Vera contains spoilers
Looking at my Twitter feed, most of the boxing journos I follow had it either a draw, or Vera by two, so maybe robbery isn't the right term, but 98-92 suggests the fix was in... Pitty too, because the Stevenson fight had brought boxings better qualities to focus.

Re: Vera contains spoilers
It was never in doubt that this would happen. Vera was never going to KO him so a stitch up on the cards was the likely way forward. Sad and unfair for Vera but unsurprising.
If Jr looked this weight drained at 172lb, he'll look terrible at 168! Anyone know what he weighed in the ring?

3:37 Chavez Jr "I feel he win 6 or 7 rounds"
Then the translater whispers "you won"

Re: Vera contains spoilers
I can't recall a fighter I've disliked more than JCC Jr.
For his young age he's had so many favours I just want to see him KO'd!
I saw a few of the rounds and JCC thinks if he lands 2 big punches in a whole round he should win the fight regardless of what the other guy does.
The best thing he can do is give Vera the rematch but he's already refused this!

160-175 is a pretty nasty grouping... Id struggle to put him in the top 30 combined...
With that said, I fully expect to see him holding Ibaka's title aloft following a gift.

Re: Vera contains spoilers
At the risk of sounding sexist and ageist, should women and old men be boxing judges? Two of the judges in the fight were women including the disgraceful 98-92 Chavez card. The other was an 80 year old man. Adelaide Byrd has an awful rep and CJ Ross is a bit of laughing stock.

Don't really give a flying one who refs it. Can get a panda in to do it as long as they are competent. Ian John Lewis is staggeringly male and as incompetent as he is male.

Re: Vera contains spoilers
Seriously how bad was Jr's conditioning, he basically threw single shots all night and got pasted by Vera's flurries
Vera was tailor made for Chavez, he is an average sized MW who has never fought at 168 let alone 173, he is not known as a puncher even for a MW, comes to fight and engages in wars and has been hurt and stopped in the past
But last night Chavez was awful. I don't rate him and have never rated him, he lost his 0 well before Martinez imo and should have lost again against Vera, who will now go back to being a journeyman with another loss on his record
